@abhijitb1 Hello Abhijit, the is one Bol i dont't understand.... in some other Khol Videos i saw that the Bol NA is not the same like TA ...the Description of NA is to strike the right side not in the middle "on the Kinar " they say ! Is it another Sound ??
@ArjunaSakhaDas 1. It depends on what mantra you were playing. Tihais tend to be something you get by practicing with more experienced people; knowing when to start playing again is more of a "feel" than something I can clearly explain. 2. This one I can answer: Lessons 1-9 and 11 all contain mantras played in 4/4 time, or multiples of 4 beats. These are used when the kartal plays 3 chimes (the 4th is silent). Lesson 10 contains a 3 beat mantra, so you play kartals with 2 chimes.
@abhijitb1 Thank you Prabhu. And what about in this video, after you do the tihai, after the last "ta" you begin the with the "Dha" of this video's mantra?
@ssaraswati I have seen this interpretation before. It is more confusing because the second "Te" is different from the first Te (it is played as Ta + Khe) and the Khe is actually played "Ge." So it is more ambiguous. Try playing this mantra you wrote exactly, it will not sound the same as the mantra in the video.
very nice videos...i´m actually learning from them.. do you know if there´s a special care I must give to my new mridanga (fiberglass, with leather heads and long strings across the body, also leather) I´m asking because these thick strings seem to be drying with time, maybe they need some oily stuff on them. Thank you
It's good for the leather to dry. Do not oil the straps. As it dries it will tighten a bit and settle into its natural shape. With playing, it may become a slight bit looser. Leather heads will always tend to vary a bit with the weather and playing wear, but you should keep any liquids or gels away from it if possible.
At first the Keharva(hope I spelled that correctly) seemed to be the never ending challenge for me. Maybe it will maybe it won't. But your instructional video and suggestions have provided a light at the end of the tunnel.

@DizzySoundz In mridanga the strike on the corner ("Kinar") is call NAK, while we use NA as a synonym for TA.

Haribol Prabhu, i got 2 question: 1. After the tihai, where do you start again the mantra?
2. Can i play any mantra of mrdanga, no matter if the karatalas are playing 2 o 3 beats? If no, how do i know which mantra shall i use?
