  • What exactly did they expect when they booked Sarah Silverman? A serious talk on an important issue?

  • TED sounds like a real cunt.

  • If you watch closely, she is showing plenty of signs of cocaine use here.

  • @garrymcnaney wrote, "If you watch closely, she is showing plenty of signs of cocaine use here."

If you look not particularly closely, you are showing plenty of signs of being a major league douchebag here.

  • @ForTheDefence78 Your irrational defensiveness has given me an almighty erection. Thank you

  • Sarah's idea is fucking awesome. I love that she doesn't give a shit what people think of her. She had a great idea, and everyone wins. But of course because it 'sounds' bad, people are all over her. Fuck that. She just said she wanted to take care of a mentally retarded kid with a terminal illness, and people are all 'oh no we don't want anyone taking care of them!'. lol

    What a fucking joke!

  • i love sarah silverman!

  • What the hell is going on around 2:32 to her face. Whoever made that pixel thing happen is in bed with the dark lord. That is f.............d up!!!

  • Im adopted =D sarah can re adopt me any time i love her! and i have learning disabilities..... people treat me like a retard.

  • She can adopt me, I'm retarded.

  • Her voice, that irritating nasal voice, would make me want to steer her right off of the nearest Hollywood cliff... NOW that would actually be funny.

  • @MrFlipfly Yeah, however the irritating voice is part of her persona of being the irritating dumb Jew girl. She plays on it as part of her act. You fucking clown.

  • @MrFlipfly well McFly maybe you could just OFF your own mentally retarded self and save the rest of us from your mentally retarded comments...no offense intended, just throw your ignorant, clueless dumbass self off the nearest cliff...thx

  • You can see Bill Maher wants to bang her SOOOO bad. But don't many of us?

  • This Silverman must be treated as irrelevant as she is. Treat a shiksa like a shiksa.

  • Here we see Technology Entertainment Design promoted by two known fascists. The name of the organization sounds like a propaganda machine.

  • I don't know whether to take her seriously or laugh

  • She's way out of line joking about people with cognitive disabilities. And She is not funny. Making fun of people for something they can't help is insulting, rude and plain old bad manners. Lenny Bruce was funny, he made people think. She isn't even entertaining. That TED would ask this woman to be one their show lowers my opinion on the TED production staff. WHY TED why?

  • @lgmccarville I don't think you were paying attention. When did she joke about people with cognitive disabilities?

  • @lgmccarville I can't see how someone who cares about human life would be so bothered by what Sarah is saying. "Cognitive disabilities" is an offensive term, for a start it assumes there is a correct level of ableness that humans should have, the same assumption that leads to life being so difficult for those that don't hit that golden average. Also Lenny Bruce isn't making jokes about anything so much these days, it's difficult to get out of line when you are that dead.

  • @lgmccarville I also missed the part where she made fun of anyone, disabled or not, except Chris Anderson... If you think MENTIONING the mentally challenged is the same as insulting them, then you should just expect to be offended all the time.

  • Yeah I was pissed about this one. I actually happen to love the TED talks, I wanted to see this one perhaps more than any other. Sarah totally deserved to do a TED talk. I suspect she was awesome and Chris Anderson is a complete jackass. If that's the joke that made him all pissed off then he's a TOTAL and complete jackass. If he can't see the heart and soul...and hilarity, that's in that joke then he should step down as head of TED. He should just step aside and let someone better take up.

  • She probably works for the cia.

  • Disabled people with terminal illnesses need looking after too. How could it not be morally right to want to adopt one?

  • God i hate that prick Bill Maher. He thinks he's a fucking cultural phenomenon, the obnoxious Zionist cunt.

  • Sarah is one of the most original comic minds of all time. You can tell this because she pisses off so many people, and she gets canceled because she is too funny for television.

  • There is nothing you shouldn't make a joke about. It all depends on who is telling the joke and to what audience they are telling it to. It's quite obvious Sarah Silverman wasn't being serious, it's a joke, she is saying it in the knowledge that neither she nor the audience believe what she is saying is morally right, which is the whole point of her comedy. When people take offensive to jokes I just have to roll my eyes and say get a life. There's plenty of other things to take offence to.

  • This story is preposterous. I'm with Sarah 100%. The idiot organizers of this "genius" conference are hilariously stupid for inviting her while having no idea who she is, and then openly lodging "offense." The facts speak for themselves. And Steve Case & company are "barnacles of mediocrity." They should shut their no-talent fucking mouths when speaking to their betters.

  • We need more people like her in the world, but to be honest: if I created something like TED I would have a hard time standing behind something like that. It's such a controversial concept and it's very hard to say delicately

  • Whoever Ted is, he sounds like a real prick.

  • I think they are both smug, sanctimonious big mouths. Why does the media push these people?

  • Where on earth can I see her TED talk? I lover Sarah! I totally know what she means by feeling like others are the adults. Hahaha.

  • I so adore her.

  • I don't like her. In fact, I LOVE her.

  • Silverman will learn that there is only one way to address the people in a socialist regime: "Citizen". Labels are power and in a socialist power structure the power sits at the top and the top only. Suck it up, liberals. This process is just starting to strip you of your freedoms. Freedom of speech being one of the first to go--just ask Sarah. George Carlin speaks from the grave when we remember his lamentation "I never thought that censorship would come from the left."

  • Im going to call sarah a GAMBLER because I know theres alot of people that wont get this or understand it, shes just to clever.

  • has she actually done this addoption though, she should do it soon.

  • fuck the advocates????? I'm on board with that......

  • She makes jokes using mentally disabled and terminally ill children as material, some people aren't amused and refuse to publish said jokes on their webspace, so she launches personal attacks against them. She sounds like a troll to me.

  • @ludenmenthol Ignoring people or worse yet, delibertely cutting them out of comentary is not respecting them. Recognising peoples strengths and short-comings and commenting on it draws them into the fold of humanity. If we talk about peoples weeknesses we may get used to not blocking them out and start to grow ourselves. Humour can be the first crack of daylight in a very dark room.

  • I feel deeply sad for the child who would have to suffer this bigoted, insensitive idiot as their mother.

  • OKaaay, Bill!

    LOL

  • @LEilllLEi No you should say retarded.

  • Sarah is awesome! I am disappointed at the TED conference; I loved TED Talks so hearing this story taints it for me. Fuck TED Talks!

  • INTERESTING WOMAN!!!

  • @hecase Yeah, she's pretty.... on the outside.

  • @hecase "Great talent & wit" LOL, now that's funny! Personally, I side with TED. Sarah is god-awful.

  • @Jianju69 you're so smart and educated and stately and genuine

  • I thought this was going to go down a weird road, but it was actually pretty cool.

  • she smoke weed,... i think thats why she is that funny ;)

you've got the best ideas in high times ;)

  • I think Sarah Silvermann is not controversial at all, she's the most consensual person in show business.

But she's very funny though, annoying as hell, but funny.

  • I generally like Sarah Silverman, but when she claimed that she "isn't trying to piss anyone off," that pissed me off a bit. Part of her whole schtick is saying and doing the most outrageous things that shock or outrage people, regardless of who it pisses off.

That's fine, Sarah. Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke. But be honest about it. Don't say things, knowing full well it's going to offend and piss off a LOT of people, then claim that's not what you're doing. That's disingenuous.

  • @xxxxPaladinxxxx Sarah alternates between being showing her stark, unacceptable soul, & back-peddling when she realizes she has missed the mark that her fans mistake for humor.

  • Hope they both get skin cancer and their hooked noses fall off.

  • @AmericanFenian lol, her nose isn't even hooked dumbass. more like a little sloped

  • @cnx301

I think most people got what I meant dumb ass.

  • @flyingmobias It actually IS funny as long as you're smart enough not to take her seriously. People need to open their damn mind a little and apparently the dummies who run TED do, for sure. They shouldn't have fucking asked her to come if they didn't REALLY want her! Idiots. Sarah is pretty damn cool and great.

  • "what kind of person adopts a mentally handicapped child with a terminal illness? an awesome person (me) HAHA)" so funny. i actually respect TED for turning its back on her, TED represents serious people, not those who think they're funny by using harsh words, SHE IS GREAT! just not for TED lol

  • She is so awesome. For those that dont get her dont deserve to get her. The idea that she isnt smart or an "idiot" are too stupid to actually understand what shes saying. its ironic.

  • she's idiot like all the stupids american girls

  • i think she had had good intentions but she confussed the word retarded for mentaly challenged

  • Move to israhell you ugly racist witch.

  • At 5:06, why does Bill use the reference "we" and "we're not," as though he, like Sarah, is a comedian? That baffles me. Am I missing something here?

  • @loadstone316 bill originally was a stand up comic

  • @felixicon Yes I know felix. I was exageratting the fact that Bill is completely unfunny, all the time. So, if he is never funny, then he can't refer to himself as a comedian.

  • @loadstone316 yes

  • Comment removed

  • I think lots of people just don't understand comedy. Clearly, Sarah Silverman's jokes are not sincerely held views, they are just jokes. The reason they are funny are because the 'views' she claims to have are so shocking.

  • @rhysepoos I have to disagree. If all these things Ms. Silverman says were jokes, at least a few of them would be funny.

  • She's a anti-Christian Jew.

  • And not funny

  • @bmotx The best kind! :D

  • @TheLaughingOut

To kick out of the country?! Vote out of office?! Not to do business with?! To warn your children about?! Not to trust?! To avoid?!

  • @bmotx Yeah totally. Sarah Silverman is like... SATAN!!

  • @bmotx hahaha and what are you? an anti everything muslim?

  • I am willing to bet my left nut that you will never see this attention whore adopt a mentally retarded baby, EVER.

  • @axlfleming come on...MOST celebs will never adopt a disabled child...YOU wouldnt adopt a disabled child. Unfortunately most people wouldn't adopt a child that was not not their own ethnicity, perfectly 'normal' and preferably less than 12 months old...Check the statistics...most people want to adopt babies-the older a child gets the less 'attractive' they are to potential parents.

P.S I think she is desperate for attention and somewhat 'self absorbed' she is not as funny as she thinks she is!!!

  • I like her, nothing wrong about her.

  • This was either insulting, rude and thoughtless or one of the most genius pieces of social criticism I ever saw.

  • Sarah knows how to push buttons and get reactions. She is smart AND good looking plus a really good actor. Caution though, these type of women are not GOOD for long term relationships. You will get burned unless you are smarter or can get them to stop acting and be themselves. Ask Jimmy K.

  • @Geo408 not going to contend with any of the content of what you said, but would just like to point out: would you ever in any world say anything about the relationship potential of a male comic, especially when the material presented had nothing to do with it?

  • @AgileTablet

That's a really good point. It's mind blowing how often you see comments like that.

People are fucking nuts. I know it's all youtube fun and games, but it really is a reflection of how people are in general. Stupid to the bone.

  • She's a fucking moron. If that was the message of her talk, I totally endorse Chris Anderson's decision.

  • @leplsre grow the fuck up Corky!!!

  • Not all that funny....but Damn, she's pretty.

  • Sarah, biggest heart ever.

  • WHY IS SILVERMANN FAMOUS???? SHE HASNT DONE ANYTHING!!!

  • @judgerofwars well i find her cute, good looking i would marry her...

  • @judgerofwars Except for being a very successful comedian?

  • @judgerofwars It's called standup comedy. Use wikipedia every now and then. That's what the internet is kinda for.

  • @judgerofwars

She's...a comdeian. She was her own show.

    That was a stupid question...

  • pause 2:36 (sorry Sarah ;] )

  • My sister has down syndrome and this Is a little offensive. I like her as a comedian but you just can't joke about those kind of things.

  • @SausageFestNation the thing is, while it may be offensive, it is also very true. Besides, you might not like the term retarded but you can't deny that their brain, brilliant as it might be, functions differently can you?. Now, let me tell you a story some family friends just died in a car crash. They had a 33 year old daughter with down syndrome who is now being taken care of by my uncles, just think about it.

  • @SausageFestNation She isn't worried about your feelings, it's your sister that matters.

  • @VartanMamikonian Sarah Silverman is an atheist. Doesn't her intelligence prove that to you?

  • Having spent 10 years supporting people with disabilities, I have to agree with her point. When these people grow up it's very difficult to find people to take care of them. I reccomend a Down's baby. They're cute, fun and ususally die in their thirties from heart/lung problems.

  • sarah, your so cool :3

  • I would jizz on her chin, you're welcome Sarah.

  • @HowTosandTips great post! I've never been a big fan of Joan Rivers but I have a lot of respect for her and that bit is pretty brilliant. As for Sarah, she's just the best. I love everything about her.

  • So, I guess a lot of people don't really get this bit that she does. I think it's just a sophisticated form of joke. The reason that she's awesome isn't necessarily because she adopted anyone. I haven't seen any reports indicating that she actually adopted anyone. I think its a gag that she sets up flawlessly, appearing to be operating in some kind of philanthropic way, and the punchline being "an awesome person". If Andy Kaufman were alive today, I can imagine him doing things like this.

  • @gh3ninja9 Yes. Silverman is brilliant. People don't get it.

  • @billyboylb i get it SHE ISN'T FUNNY, dave chappelle gabriel iglesias hans teeuwen they are funny not her sorry but she can debate pretty well

  • the thing that amazes me is that sarah (whose humor i like) thinks any of us are dumb enough to not realize she's backpedaling over a bad joke. i mean who REALLY thinks 5 years from now sarah will have a mentally handicapped child? like no one. this was a joke she realized was a bad one, an absurd one and NOT FUNNY. (and an insult to those who ARE caring for these children)

  • @rockyboyjan1999 you know, comedy is a way of dealing with things, also a way of getting rid of taboos. these are things that should be discussed! there are so many kids without homes and they should be cared for just like anyone else. you know in joan rivers movie "a piece of work" joan made a joke about how shed love to have hellen keller as a daughter because shed be quiet. a man shouted "thats not funny! i have a deaf son!" and she said... (1/2)

  • Comment removed

  • @rockyboyjan1999 ... "Let me tell you what comedy is about, you stupid son of a bitch! I had a deaf mother. I also fucked a guy for three years who had one leg! He lost it in France in WWII, and I think it's terrible, because he should go back and get it because that's littering! Comedy is a way for us to deal with things!" (2/2)

  • Sarah Silverman for President!!!

  • Now I've heard her side of the story. They (TED) later asked her if she wanted to have the video posted- she declined. Seems like people weren't offended but bored by her canned speech at a creme dela creme conference.

By the way if you haven't watched TED you can see that they bring in great speakers (whom I don't all agree with but will lend an ear). One just fell through the screening process by mistake. SHAME ON YOU CHRIS FOR THIS YOU DIRTY SCUM!!

  • What's this show and who's the host? (I'm not American)

  • @john42t

    Real Time with Bill Maher

  • @btbam222 Thanks

  • @john42t

    You're Welcome!

  • Amazing

  • Fair enough.

  • nice

  • Sarah is cool

  • umm yeah i think she would be a good pash, nice tongue

  • look at her smile when she says "an amazing person"

    DAMN shes the best

  • Bill sooooooo has a crush on Sarah, and so do I! :-)

  • I love Sarah Silverman :)

  • Wow lol! she is quality lol

  • TED is where people who have ideas can stand up in a lecture hall and educate the masses with their profound wisdom. In other words, it's a place where any schmuck who wants their 15 minutes of fame can feel like a college professor telling people about some BS they've made up with no credible facts or data that inadvertently dumbs down American society.

  • She wants to adopt a terminal baby...where's the joke?

  • @labilewolfberry Once the baby dies, she won't have to take care of it anymore (i.e. she wouldn't be interested in the baby after it grew up.)

The old joke of children only being lovable while they are babys, with a twist.

I think Sarah is either funny to a particular sense of humor, or not. Haven't found many in-betweeners with her...

  • Politically correct language sometimes goes overboard with trying to protect people's feelings, to the point of sounding apolegetic; like, there's something wrong with being such-and-such, so we need to invite a polite euphemism, as we do for sex acts or bodily waste. Isn't that kind of condescending? Like, oh, too bad you're a secretary, will you feel more important if we call you an 'administrative assistant'?

  • I had no idea she was a comedian.

  • its a joke..i dont find funny, shes so arrogant to the point of making me ill, 'im being funny praise me' its not ok to say anything you want under the guise of humour and then say your all dicks for not finding me funny

  • When you are invited to speak at TED, you are expected to contribute something intelligent. Was she trying to be funny? What message was she trying to give? I'm sure she is a smart woman who has found a niche, but you don't say stupid shit at something like TED. It wasn't that she was offensive, it was because TED isn't comic relief. The people that speak and those who attend are part of an educated community that aren't amused by humor that has been worn out by the lowest forms of comedian.

  • Shit joke. Next.

  • @georgearakawa It's a JOKE you fucking idiot, that's her job, as a comedian, to tell jokes. The TED people invited her, she didn't ask to be there. If TED wanted a comic for there show to come on stage and explain why airline-food jokes are funny they should have asked someone else to come, but instead they invited Sarah Silverman. She's not my favorite comic either, but she did what she does best.

  • @deming1019 If you want to call her a comedian. If being a bad comedian is what she does best, why does she deserve praise? TED isn't against humor. Sir Ken Robinson often illustrates his points with a punch line and it's brilliant. Humor can be an effective means of expressing a point but Sarah Silverman is way off.

  • @MrFlaminroids

I'm not a fan of Sarah Silverman's, I don't like her humor, but I do not go as far as to say that she's not a comedian, or a bad one, just because i don't like her. She tells jokes that are directed towards an immature audience, and TED invited her to talk in front of a room full of scholars. I don't think TED is entirely to blame either, but they could have given Sarah something to go off of, or asked in advance what she was going to talk about.

  • @georgearakawa its a joke which is not making fun of retarded babies just narcissm or fuckd upness in general its somewhat funny but come on shes putting it the way you should if your gonna go with that sort of humor also just suck it

  • She is so ridiculous. "To be offended by that bothers me" 4:50. She makes jokes about retarded babies with terminal illnesses at TED, not some drunken Thursday night comedy club. And then she is upset that people are offended at a joke which to be frank is not that funny anyway. The point is, she did this at TED, a international conference to discuss ideas worth spreading. Not a place for below average standup comedy.

  • ...an amazing person!!!

  • i once wrote a song about being not funny. look up the website man. itll trip you out 'pc' - a holes. i dont know who they are and i dont give a shit, because they've run this country so long, there should be like a disclaimer.. WARNING: these fuckers are poisoning you -- ha, retards at a tech convention ..you think? you shouldn't treat em like theye retarded anyway, thats what the docs are for.. hardy har har o and btw kill this girl right here man n btw mame this guy right here

  • Biggest Cojones Ever!!!!

  • I actually do like controversy. We require struggle and friction to progress and reach a synthesis of ideas. Status quo ideas don't improve without a fire lighted under them.

That said, I just realized I heard her do this bit on some podcast or radio show and it in no way struck me as controversial. Somehow merely laughing at something has become intrinsically evil, as though it's always at someone's expense, even when the premise is something that would leave everyone better off if enacted.

  • Respect.

  • this is great...fuck stand up comedy this is visibility

  • hahaha amazing... funny and yet practical

  • Not a fan of her crude joke-style, but her idea was not that outlandish. It is an interesting thought.

  • @jonathanalexand Prefer knock-knock jokes?

  • Bill should talk less.

  • While not a fan of Silverman (if anything, her overattempted humor annoys me), I'm still able to see through her "jokes". That said, if what she said offends you, then it's possible you're her sought adoptee.

  • @Kinaseophilic Oh you must be really deep. Seeing through humor so you can't enjoy it, that must be the right way to watch comedy...

  • Comment removed

  • What she said about adopting a mentally retarded child didn't offend me. The only kind of comedy that offends me is the kind that advocates racism, sexism, or general ignorance. I don't like the fact those comedians try to make assholes, who hurt other people, feel good about them selves. [Side Note] I don't like comedians who never break character. There is a time to be funny and a time to be serious. Was the TED talk a time to be serious? Doesn't matter either way it's just a conference.

  • I fucking love this women!

  • I don't know if I can vote against mass effect 2... Better make it worth it Husky!

  • They should have known before they hired her that all she's capable of is shock humour. Obviously they overestimated her. I find her absolutely vile, but the fault is theirs. They obviously mistook fame for quality.

  • bill be a host and stop talking about we jeez

  • I can relate. People assume you're trying to offend when all you do is state your opinion. And being a woman doesn't help. People have this attitude of be pretty, shut up. It's enraging.

  • That she is so independent only makes her hotter to me.

  • Chris Anderson rarely understand the point of the talks at TED anyway.... have you ever watched him TRY to ask question after? it is basically like "Hi, i am a rich douche bag that is only interested in contecting my image with rich smart people that is why i have this comfy chair on stage. I am too stupid to ask an intellegent question so i will just ask questions that clearly demonstrate that i didn't get the point of your talk."

  • She's right. Them lil retarded terminally ill babies need them a mama too.
