ya i won't really run from something like this.. i've always been into the weather and i would love to learn more about tornadoes. i will have my skywarn cert soon, since tornado season is over. but next year. i will catch my tornado.
i am lookin for someone to do some storm chasing with. Must have a minmum of skywarn training. SEROIUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE. please message me if you like to meet and arrange something.
those clouds were crazy that day. i took some pictures in my backyard. as much as i'm scared to sh*t of tornadoes. those clouds were actually really beautiful
I remember that day like it was yesterday, It was beautiful out...then it got realllly drak, then reallllly windy. Windy enough to knock you over. Just as I decided to inside,a tree came down and hit a house 3 doors down from us.
More than likely this is what the developement of the April 21, 1967 tornado that hit Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park, and Hometown looked like as that one started in Palos Hills, jumped the tollway, came through what is now teh Chicago Ridge Mall, and raced up 95th St killing most of it's victims at 95th and SW Highway...this particular storm was part of the derecho that came out of Iowa and NW Illinois racing SE through the entire Chicago area and into Indiana.there were over 8,000 lightning strikes.
wow!! i've done a lot of research on that tornado and i know there's only one known video of that tornado, and i've been looking for it for a long time.. but to no avail.. i didn't know though there were that many strikes.. that storm that day was insane and thats one i know i'll never forget
That long-sought video of the 1967 Oak Lawn tornado is on youtube and it is one of the menacing tornadoes I've seen. The camera wasn't close enough to show the strange structure of the tornado--three large suction vortices inside and one kept wandering away, which accounts for the strange isolated patches of serious damage away from the tornado path.
Yes, actually, I've found it. It's called the Belvidere Tornado, but I think it's the same one. Look up "Terror in Oak Lawn". There is also a live video cast of it. Google "Voice of the Tornado". Very, very creepy.
I got the same thing from Hometown. I was on SouthWest Hwy. Man, that was a cool storm. I decided to get my camera when that big wall cloud came through. I too was filming a funnel right above me, then the siren went off and I looked down there and there she was, so cool to see live, huh? See my video, search oak lawn tornado july 10th 2008 from americanrides See ya, Dave
yeah, I'd be running from that thing.
