In the AFL,there is no such thing as a hail mary. in the nfl those passes would be considered 50 pass yard passes,not hail marys.

Your not alone, only found out about it 5 years ago and I consider myself a football fanatic. The league is about to go belly up though, but I will give you the basics anyway. The game is played on a 50 yard field. There is no out of bounds, the only way a player is ruled out of bounds is if he goes over the wall that surrounds the entire field. There is no punting due to the short field. The ball can bounce off the uprights and still be considered in play. The game is high scoring.

If I remember correctly, the Avengers were down by 13 points with like 11 seconds to go in the game. Normally in the NFL, you'd be screwed, but this is the AFL, where ANYTHING can happen! And by ANYTHING I mean THIS!

Also, even if you have the ball with less than a minute to go, you can't down the ball to wind down the clock; you must gain positive yardage to keep the clock moving.

I didn't say it was harder to complete a hail mary pass in the AFL where a lucky bounce can be the difference between winning and losing. In the NFL, one bounce and the game is over
