Great question. Most of our customers already know the answer. They tried the seeding route...year after year after year and finally decided to switch to more durable creeping grass (usually warm season type but not always) that can be propagated and repaired by plugging.

why not just rake the dirt throw some seeds and water it and two weeks later you have grass!

Because St. Augustine does not generate viable seeds.
For many of us, Bermuda grass is a weed.
