Galvany more than everyone ! Her interpretation is original, resolute, madly full of vengence's thirst against Sarastro. Her queen (like the plot want) is ambiguous : the frightful machine-gun like staccatos Fa5 cackle (for many can be funny or oddy ) could be either some furiouses screams by Sarastro's betrayal or she could shriek. Moreover Galvany, while she sings, seems more talk because, although the difficulty of the piece, she sings with big facility and this is mainly important in an Opera.
no, she didn't. If you really think she did, prove it. There's a false recording of what seems to be her singing on youtube when in reality, its Lucia Popp singing.
@CantoSemper49 it is a real enigma, this one! There is a recording of Callas coaching and discussing it but did she ever record or perform the Queen? Then there is the great Joan Sutherland who probably wished she hadnt. It is just not her role, neither would it suit Callas... but , that is just my opinion. The youtube performance by Lucia Popp is great even if it has Callas photograph on it!!
Deutekom shines here. Sometimes the cutting spoils the performance - that's the case of Gruberova, who is otherwise really very good. Except Gruberova and Deutekom, I like Moser, Serra, Damrau and maybe Popp.
The thing is.... The queen of the night needs to be a DRAMATIC Soprano. The colloratura is supposed to be a devilish laughter! That means: expression is more important than beauty.
Therefore:
1. Edda Moser
2. Damrau
3. Frandson
Oh... and Dessay: A no-go! she might be a good lyrical soprano, but she is the worst queen of the night imaginable!
The trill/staccato section is not enough to tell if someone is "good". The triplet section that comes a little later is also important. Some singers have a tendency to overlook that part slur it over them.
Some of them don't sing it in the right key but anyway these are my 10 favorite ones: 1. Diana Damrau 2. Roberta Peters 3. Lucia Popp 4. Edda Moser 5. Natalie Dessay 6. June Anderson 7. Sumi Jo 8. Wilma Lipp 9. Luciana Serra
My favourite Queen of the Night is Diana Damrau. Her rendition of Der Holle Rache is powerful, pitch perfect, seething with anger and emotion. It is exciting and awe-inspiring to watch her.
Diana Damrau is good, but with dramaticidade, dicção and coloraturas of Edda Moser it does not have equal. Still it is for being born a Queen of the Night so excellent as Moser.
bcoz her voice r clear and high tone than other sopranos. however a little light.
so does not mix with opera. her voice has no tragic. (is it correct word? sorry i'm not English-speaking person) ah! Deutekom?? her voice also really nice!
HEllO!!...You did a good job but I STRONGLY feel it isnt fair, the the GREAT MARIA CALLAS was left out! I mean, how could that happen! She deserves some respect! Now, I would find it extremely hard to believe if you havent heard of Maria Callas, because she is not the kind that is hard to miss.

Well,
Thank You so much for your time and effort in making this.It really was great to see and hear all these sopranos in this aria.
One question, just HOW long did it take you?
Also thanks for the sense of humour in including dear old Florence Foster Jenkins,it stopped it all being too overwhelming.

像是茶花女traviata中的"sempre libera"
或是拉克美Lakme中的"Bell Song"
還有魔笛zauberflote中的"o zittre nicht"
Les Contes d'Hoffmann 霍夫曼的故事
