I just read the lyrics and If anyone is familiar with the doctor who series..well you might notice some similiarities.
I'm positive this song was written for the doctor who series, it mentions how hes tired of being alone, with a lot on his mind, and saving man kind, this is great!
You are right! Also don't forget that the Doctor was exiled from his planet when the series began in the 60's. The song says "trying so hard to pay for my crime"!
awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we were so lucky to grow up and get stoned in the 70,s.this generation sucks.thank god i lived this long to hear this song again.lol.
I was a teen in the '80s and we kind of discovered Uriah Heep on our own, especially the old stuff. We too found the experience "mind altering," if you know what I mean.
I also saw a concert in Harrisburg, Pa where Aerosmith was the opening band (had just released their 1st album), Queen was the second band (just released their 1st album), and Mott the Hoople was the top billed act coming on 3rd. Queen and Aerosmith totally blew the concert off the map but Mott still kicked ass. All three bands cost $5.00 Those were the fucking days, let me tell you. No bullshit corporate advertising either, just plain old ass kicking rock.
I saw these guys in the 1970's at the Harrisburg, Pa. Farm Show arena on their "Look at Yourself" tour. They kicked ass!! Wish I had caught the "Demons and Wizards" tour.
Uriah Heep was way ahead of their time. Most of the 70's rock greats owe their inspiration to Heep. Don't know why they were and still are HUGE in Europe but had only nominal success in America. They are my all-time favorite!
When you're 16 and you're listening to everything from Led-Zep,Elton John,Jim Croce..to Commando Cody..Guess what stand's out because you can't find it anywhere.....HEEP!!!!!....rock on bro's..
I actually am TRAVELLING IN TIME and declare the 70s to rock the most. Although the music of the last decade of the 23rd century also rocks hard (particularly that played by the head of Mick Box)
I used to think Bush was the big bad wolf too, but think of this: when he heard of that 2nd plane hitting wtc, he didn't seem shocked, but he DID seem afraid, as though he knew and couldn't do a damn thing about it. Growing up in the 60-70's was a gift. We had the best music,we were very outspoken, demonstrative, and dare I say comfortable with our feelings, our rights and each other. We had the best musicians of all time and it will be very hard to duplicate the talent, emotions and culture of that time. Woodstock couldn't be done today as folks today don't have peace of mind and having a million people in one place today would be a roadmap for trouble. Sometimes the 'good old days' was just that - good.
Nobody on earth could agree with you more than I do!
(No, that's a lie; EVERYBODY would!)
All ages say about the same for their eras, BUT OURS WAS REALLY DIFFERENT! We are stuck there (that's good), and will not compromise on anything LESS THAN THE BEST! Our age was unique in all chapters -- with MUSIC ON TOP; number one!
I hereby confess: I am a lucky person, who was gifted to live so magic, free, gorgeous and full moments in life!
@s743af "this use to be nothing but orange groves" blah blah blah blah, theres good and bad in everything. good sentiment but as long as the vibe on a whole is the same regardless of decade label or historic event, thats all that matters
Well, no, rock n roll started with Bill Haley (Rock Around The Clock) and Elvis, blues rock started with Chuck Berry, rock with Who (My Generation) and Beatles (Helter Skelter), and metal with Steppenwolf (Born To Be Wild), mostly.
rofl metal did not start with steppen wolf!! it started with black sabbath, born to be wild was made in 1968 and before black sabbath was named that they were earth and before that polka tulk (maybe incorret spelling) and they played music that was heavier than born to be wild.
Besides when born to be wild was on the charts it was called a rock song.
Yeah, but not before Born To Be Wild. It's considered the first heavy metal songs. Well, maybe Black Sabbath was the pioners in metal. And have you ever considered where the word heavy metal is from? Well, check the Born To Be Wild lyric;
I like smoke and lightning
HEAVY METAl thunder!
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under.
So, Black Sabbath is the first real metal band, while Born To Be Wild is the first real heavy metal song
@Charm91 the term was first coined by a british rock journalist upon his hearing Jim Hendrix the first time, and as he wrote, "Jimi's music sounded like heavy metal falling form the sky".......................................................1967
@Charm91 either that or its the fact that the heavy sound of black sabbath is partially because of tony iommi's finger tips of his fret hand being cut off, so he had to tune his guitar down so it would hurt his fingers a rediculous amount while wearing the things on his fingers to equalize what he lost. he lost his fingers from a heavy thing of sheet metal; worked in a heavy metal plant. just a posibility, but that heavy metal thunder thing sounds fairly correct
@Charm91 Black sabbath was NOT the first metal band! Blue Cheer was. Black Sabbath was the first metal band to get the recognition. Blue Cheer came along a year ahead of Sab.
@Charm91 - Born to be Wild wasn't a heavy metal song. The "heavy metal thunder" in the song is talking about the roar of the engines. Look at the opening lines, "Get your motor runnin', head out on the highway." And the second verse, "...heavy metal thunder, racin' with the wind." This song became a biker theme because of the movie, "Easy Rider." Steppenwolf was a psychedelic/hard rock band.
You forgot to put that as Amerikkka. Dude get with the program. We need to trash Amerikka as much as possible, and you need to symbolize it as racist. Corporate pigs, warmongers, anything to get the masses up in arms...ooops, sorry, forgot, we do not need arms, the government will take care of that for us. Good song though.
well, i believe its the american government thats full of evil..we, as american citizens are either victims of government bullshit or cowardly co-conspirators because we just bend over and take it and watch it get dished out to the rest of the world as well...i guess we're all guilty.
Don't feel too bad - it's been that way for a long time - colonialism - revolutionism(1776) - patriotism - capitalism - absolutionism ( free the slaves ) - separatism (civil war down with dixie) - genocidism ( native americans) - McCartyism - ( rat on and kill the communisms) - patriotism ( Uncle Sam wants you in Nam) - pacifism (burn a draft card ) - exodusism ( get out to Canada) -sanctuaryism - terrorism ( CIA Nicaragua Chile Panama) -911 more paranoia so the masses will settle for less peace
Demons & wizards -- One of my favorite all time albums. The music from the sixties/seventies was the best. I remember coming home from partying and putting on the headphones and crashing to this album. Man, it sounds as good today as it did 36 years ago.
The music was great. I bought their albums. And it made me cool since they were not top 40 material in the states. .

So, Black Sabbath is the first real metal band, while Born To Be Wild is the first real heavy metal song

Hmm...I've never looked on Born to be wild that way. Perhaps you're right. :D
Floydika 2 years ago
@Charm91 the term was first coined by a british rock journalist upon his hearing Jim Hendrix the first time, and as he wrote, "Jimi's music sounded like heavy metal falling form the sky".......................................................1967

@Charm91 THE FIRST TRUE HEAVY METAL SONG WAS IRON BUTTERFLY IN A GODDA DIVDA
trepwohrr 1 year ago
@Charm91 either that or its the fact that the heavy sound of black sabbath is partially because of tony iommi's finger tips of his fret hand being cut off, so he had to tune his guitar down so it would hurt his fingers a rediculous amount while wearing the things on his fingers to equalize what he lost. he lost his fingers from a heavy thing of sheet metal; worked in a heavy metal plant. just a posibility, but that heavy metal thunder thing sounds fairly correct

@Charm91 i think everyone was feeling it at the time they all had different ways of expressing metal ;) cheers brothers

@Charm91 Black sabbath was NOT the first metal band! Blue Cheer was. Black Sabbath was the first metal band to get the recognition. Blue Cheer came along a year ahead of Sab.

@Charm91 So your saying a rock band played a metal song
and a
traditional heavy metal band played rock songs??????????
Im puzzled
Nuhtin4u 1 year ago
@Charm91 Your saying Heavy Metal came from ther sound of a Harley Davidson engine???
RebelwithMacaws 1 year ago

Problem is that America is heavily sedated.
BrimptonFopp 3 years ago 3
well, i believe its the american government thats full of evil..we, as american citizens are either victims of government bullshit or cowardly co-conspirators because we just bend over and take it and watch it get dished out to the rest of the world as well...i guess we're all guilty.
