This guy is flat out wrong about everything. The idea we could be completely free of oil is beyond preposturous. How does he propose to go about doing it? How would you have commerical aviation with jet fuel. This guy is from another planet. His bio says that he has been in the front of energy development for 30 years. What has he done? Dr Zenith, what has Lovins done? Nothing in my opinion. The problem with Charlie Rose is he is just not smart enough to ask the right questions.
You are not listening. Amory Lovins is saying that we won't have to IMPORT OIL. We have plenty here. We can offset our oil needs with renewables and efficiencies. Read about Brazil's Sugar Cane Ethanol (not inefficient Corn). They are 100% energy independent. They have almost the same land mass as the US and would LOVE to sell us this stuff, but we have a cost prohibitive tariff on this fuel alone. I wonder why?
We KNOW that petroleum is used in plastics, rubber, medications, etc., so your precious oil will be around for a while. Of course these uses can be offset by other means (read: green algae, etc.) What about sending money to Iran, Russia, Venezuela (Chavez), terrorists etc. do you like?
What has Lovins done except pull the wool over the eyes of the knuckle draggers. Look Brazil's energy requirements are a tiny fraction of the US. They are more ideally suited for sugar cane. We don't have enough land for that. Besides what has really benefited Brazil are the oil discoveries they have made in the last 20 years. They just made a giantic discovery just off their coast. Efficiency is not enough to offset our huge population growth. We will have close to 500 million by 2050.
So what you're saying is that with the population increase of our country, we should just drill for more oil. Even though it's been long understood to be going away. In Brazil they have choices at the pump. We don't. Brazil would love to sell us some ethanol and it would cost about $2/gallon at the pump. What's the argument? How are you not the biggest knuckle dragger out there with your uninformed and one-sided opinions?
Hi. What kind of electric car do you have? Is is a conversion? Did you do it? I want to convert one and recharge it on wind or/and solar at the place I'm building out in the country. Now, if I can only get my copy of Convert It back from my mechanic friend. BTW, can you suggest a better conversion book? Good luck.
I have a Chevy S-10 conversion. I'd suggest reading the books and then go to ampmobilesdotcom and sign up for their next class. It's essential! I found that there was information here that you CAN'T find anywhere else! After the class, you will be much more confident doing your own conversion and/or making a purchase. To buy one look at evtradinpostdotcom. And yes, that's tradinpost without the 'g'!
Amory Lovins talks so much sense it makes you wonder why clever businesspeople haven't been picking up on his ideas since way back when. Now, more than ever, the government needs to pay attention to him, and follow up his ideas right now.A no-oil import U.S. could be a reality in 25 to 30 years.
Amory - you're superawesome. Charlie - God almighty, do I hate you!

With only 500 characters I'll be brief.
-Ambitious Nuclear Program
-Drill for Oil Everywhere-No exceptions
-Natural Gas for Transportation-Not electrical power generation!
-GTL & CTL (synthetics)another ambitious program
-Ethanol-An Obscenity! Stop Corn type now.
-Hydrogen? Can't happen WITHOUT Nuclear Power to break down H2O.
-Electric Cars-Keep fingers crossed for VOLT
-Efficiency- Good but overrated. Population growth will cancel out big time.
-Conservation-See Efficiency above.

Nukes are a money loosing proposition.
Oil is on its way out despite all out efforts.
Agreed.
Agreed. Clean coal for now.
Agreed. Switch grass ethanol for U.S.
Hydrogen. I can't understand how you think Nuclear power is essential for Hydrogen production since you can do it with house current.
I drive an electric car now and love it!
Efficiency is bigger than you think. I don't have to argue on this point, just look at all the corporations who are doing this now!
Conservation is a no-brainer!

Brilliant, but where is the discussion of resource depletion and infinite growth?
Strange...
