Thats great you wash your hair and let semi dry before you apply the henna. I do the same. I've notice your consistency is much thicker than mines. I get it to a toothpaste or yogurt consistency so it can properly coat my strands.
i absolutely love your color and i'm going to try to use your recipe. just one thing, how much tea did you actually pour in to the henna mixture? thanks!
I think it ended up being about 3/4c maybe? I didn't use all of it, for sure. I guess I made extra just to be on the safe side. Just make a cup or two and eyeball as you pour. Start small, the goop gets more relaxed as it sits.
I actually need to re-henna my head here! I suppose I should go order more!
I henna too, love it! Why are you putting the tea in after you have waited for dye release? I mix mine up w/ acv and a touch of water, cover and leave in my oven overnight w/ JUST the light on. I get great dye release by morning and in it goes...I'm gonna go watch the rest of your videos now and see how your henna came out!
I put it in after the release because you are supposed to thin it, according to the site I got mine from. It was WAY too thick to put into hair, after release, the way it was done, here. I had to add something to thin it out so it was workable. :)
hi. do you know if it matters if you put henna on dry or wet hair, or which way is better? Cause I have a curly hair and it would be easier for me to spread it evenly if I could put it on my hair when wet but I cant find anything saying if that is okay to do.
Damp is better than wet or dry, I believe. A little wet, like wait for it to nearly air dry after a shower, or spray down with a water bottle. I think wet would be OK if it was going to stay on for a while. (more than just 2 or 3 hours)
thanks so much because that really helps to know. Like I said, I couldn't find any info as to what to do and it will be my first time trying so I really needed some help.
I henna and I am wondering: Why didn't you add in an egg and some olive oil (or an oil of your choosing) to keep the hair from over drying during the sitting process? I put 1 egg,3/4 of a cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 cup of warm water, 1 tlbspn of Vitamin E oil, and 3/4 a cup of lemon juice. I know it seems like alot of liquids, but for the 250 rgrams of henna I use it comes out like brownie batter, and I never have had dry hair after this mixture. Just giving a little help :-)
I didn't add any oils because I'd read oil can inhibit the uptake of the dye and I wanted a really rich color. I didn't have any issue with drying at all, and I left it on overnight. :) It was blissfully silky in the morning. :D

henna mixed with brewed tea makes hair really dry
i add honey n yoghurt 4 extra conditioning, n 4 colour i use vimto, it gives a deep rich red colour ( really gooooooooorgeous)
if u want ur hair 2 be brown u can add cocoa or Nescafe
if u want it to have a chestnut colour, u can use chamomile tea
if want ur hair 2 be reddish brown, u can add cinnamon tea
u should avoid tea bcoz i noticed in part 1 vid that ur hair was dry

I got a little carried away when I made mine. I added triple strength coffee.

Coffee can get you a horrible headache. The color won't be that different anyway.

Eew, stinky coffee henna. Did your head pound for days?
bekajoi 2 years ago
Yeah, it sure did. My head was splitting and I felt nauseated. I have since altered my recipe.

Thanks for this. I was pretty wary of using henna before this (especially leaving that goo on my head for so long) but in the end...totally worth it.

what tea did you use?

Tension Tamer by Celestial Seasonings. Mostly, it smelled nice with the henna. Google it to see what the package looks like. :)
