@yukikokaoin IMHO, It was to personify the view of many of the anti-war protesters of the time that when you go into the army, you're almost a tool for the government's destruction, doing exactly as all the others do and never stepping out of line. When they did that to their faces, they were purposely trying to make them seem very threatening and robotic.

This scene is so powerful! It articulates an image I always had in my head when I thought about young guys being sent off to fight; cannon fodder on a conveyor belt. So tragic.
