  • Mexico Theory!

  • "M-Theory is a theory"

    Brilliant.

  • ed was realy troling with his M-theory

  • Comment removed

  • im 14 and ive watched all vids of these up to here and i actually understand all of this still...

  • @GamingXpaul2K10 That's because it is popularized science, meant for people who can't actually read the publications of these theories with any kind of comprehension.

  • @GamingXpaul2K10 but nothing has really been said but simple concepts, if you are interested look at the math behind it

  • @GamingXpaul2K10 Just know that basically everything said in this video is wrong.

  • "what does the M stand for?"

im thinking considering it combined 5 different theories, the M stands for multi, maybe?

  • @coltsrule5150 M stands for membrane.

Instead of vibrating strings, imagine vibrating spheres.

The membrane is the surface of the vibrating spheres.

You can visualize it to be bubbles.

If you rotate a looped string around an extra dimension you will get a surface of a sphere.

A spinning coin looks spherical when spun fast enough.

M-Theory needs one more dimension than regular string theory.

    String Theory is 10D Thread-Time, M-Theory is 11D Membrane-Time.

    If you could believe it.

  • @InternetOneOS i love science, and if there is anything i am to put my "faith" in it would be science

    but science loses me here

i mean it all makes sense until they get to the "membrane" part then im like OK this is going into a religious direction now

  • @coltsrule5150 I've explained what this pseudo-science cult is trying to imply & impose.

That doesn't mean that I'm fooled by it.

I commented on most of these 11 videos, you should have a quick overlook & see what I said.

A devils advocate can bring up points for both sides.

I love the scientific method, it's the greatest learning tool ever devised.

I hate the idea of any organized group that becomes so large that the individuals no longer have a say. Religions,Cults & Politics.

  • Every time I see a complex equation I die a little inside because of how bad I am at math.

  • If people will have a capability of getting to "other" dimensions, expect this to get nasty.

Eventually it's those who are "smart" that end up doing the most idiotic things...(Atom bomb)

At least it's still a Theory so far.

Yet,besides someone saying "think about what we can do with this to further benefit ourselves",I find this theory to show Nothing at all about the universe, simply yet Another mechanic.

Also...The attention to the "m" name and over-attention to the man is not important at all.

  • Maybe the M stands for membrane

  • Holly shit...This theory goes to 11.

    It all makes sense.

  • hooked

  • thanks for shortening "membrane" to "brane" - now you're making me think the Universe is full of brains

  • MEMBRANE THEORY that's what it stands for

  • I love the comedy in these videos

  • 2:55 makes me laugh.

  • 0:49 so smart he does math with a pen!!!

  • "This one goes to eleven." -Spinal Tap

  • i thought m theory was multidimensional theory?

  • Why are there more views for Part 7 than part 6?

  • Love how this clip ends "a brane can grow to enormous size. Perhaps even as large as--" AS WHAT? WHAT????/ SUSPENSE.

  • @jshowa2 *facepalm* you really are thick, aren't you? *sigh* fine, you "win," have fun in your little pit of ignorance. *facepalm again*

  • @jshowa2 *facepalm* You keep trying to force a purely numerical calculator to spontaneously learn and apply analytic computation o_O And to precisely calculate 1/3 on a computer is very easy, 1/3, there! You seem to be hung up on notation.

Everything in computing is based on compromise, performance vs. cost. Even though floating-point isn't the best solution, it's cheap and simple.

Ever heard of Turing? The primary limitation of computing is time.

  • @jshowa2 Wrong. There is no hardware limitation (and certainly not the data bus width o_O;) to doing indefinite mathematics with a computer. I could do it with an 8-bit Z80...it would just take a while. The problem is in the software, arbitrary size, algorithms...besides, floating-point is so much simpler and cheaper anyway.

Although I'm sure there are those who have been brave enough to explore continued fractions and advanced computation.

  • mmmmmmgarbage theory ?

  • prehaps even as large....... :O

  • Youve got it set to M for mini, when it should be set to W for WUMBO! Oh god I cracked up when I saw that 2:51

  • Witten has the kind of creepy voice like Johnny Depp in Charlie and the chocolate factory.

  • shit my pants shit my pants shit my pants

  • I was getting worried that he was going to step out of the youtube video screen, and then into my livingroom.

  • edward reminds me of sheldon

  • @castlezfinest1 Bazinga!

  • @ Garham6762 because unlike you didn't spend there life making fun of people because of your race or creed they actually went to college, studied something they are interested in and did something with there life

  • Charlie Sheen at 2:50

  • surely m stands for membrane

  • i've just thought of that RING movie where this ghost or a dead lady comes out of the TV lol

  • @pigkkk2 Exactly what I was thinking #LOL

  • @roarthwo

    Are you a wizard

  • of course eleven! its 911 and 311!

  • @naturecollision huh..

  • not only does he do super complicated equations... HE DOES THEM IN PEN

  • @keef920 WHAT THE FUCK IS A PEN? IS IT A TYPE OF MAC BOOK?

  • @ricochet188 oh my god what a small brain you have ...its a ball tipped pen...

  • @IvanderHaisley You can't believe that I was serious. Methinks you have the small brain.

  • @ricochet188 get a grammar check okay ?

  • @IvanderHaisley ... What? Why? Get lost.

  • @keef920 its kind of sad that with 7 billion people on the planet, there are only one or two who can be bothered to apply their genious to figuring out the mysteries of the whole universe.

  • @boblafro MEMBRANE-THEORY. it takes a lot of logic of the big bang and knowing the forces had to come from somewhere to understand how this theory has to be correct.

  • I fucking love how he steps out of the screen and talks to himself.

  • 1:49 - 2:05

okay, so it's unified, but they never explained how they found this. The mirrors and cello player didn't explain anything.

  • M is for Majin Buu

  • This needs to be renamed "The Elegant Universe II" since the Elegant universe ended on the topic of string theory and it is also by NOVA.

  • M-Theory must be Membrane Theory. This is such a fascinasting subject! It is irresistable!!!

  • WHY IS EVERY ONE OF THESE GUYS A JEW AND WHY ARE THEY SO SMART?

  • @Graham6762 because they dont care about the meaningless trivial none sense. Btw saying things in all caps doesn't make you more interesting.

  • @Graham6762 kabbalah? ahahaha

  • ha ya know what the problem is, you have it set to "M" for mini when it should be set to "W" for wombo

  • This is totally mind blowing!

  • How come all of the science shows on the History Channel have hot chix as hosts, yet this series is just guys???

  • @xcellken1 cause the history channel has gone the way of TLC by selling out.

  • Is this testable?

  • M theory = membrane theory

  • Did he not say Mirrors?

  • 1, 2, 3 - dimensions of space

    4 - dimension of time

    5 - twilight zone

    6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 - dimensions from Lost

  • too bad he didn't get smoked by that car

  • I would personally like to take a moment to thank everyone for be willing to learn something like this in your spare time.

  • Well we all know that the fifth dimension is the Twilight Zone, so we only have to find six more!

  • They're about to kiss at 6:11

  • The guy at 2:47 had it right; the M is upside down. It just stands for Wumbo.

  • im 12 years old and what is this? i did this maths at school but was a little harder

  • I swear, in the end I heard "as your mom"....

  • 1:04 he mentioned shot in the arm

  • Correction to M Theory: There are not 11 dimensions. There are only 10 TEN. The U-Law is 10 and not 9 - not 11 but 10. This is an absolute U-Law from the original translation of the Sepher Y and the Z Narratives. Time is not in and of itself a separate dimension but a variable or a "conversion rectifier" . Hence - not 11 but 10.

  • @NeedTime222 there 11, 10 of space and 1 of time.

    10 + 1 = 11.

    learn grade school math dumbshit.

  • connect 5 points (theories) and you get a M

  • @pascalburgos can i know how ? please ?

  • I thought it was Membrane theory :)

  • The "M" stands for " Mother fucker, why didn't anyone else figure this shit out?"

  • M for Matter? Or does that sound way too logical? XD I love this video.

  • I really like Ed Witten. He has a wonderfully weird erudite manner.

  • @carlsetzer He could be a super villain couldnt he? i love his manner too

  • M is Mangina

  • u can fold a piece of paper in half only 6 times countering the base as 1 = 7 + the 4 demensions = 11 demensions. problem solved.

  • only 110,000 people have watched this. this makes me sad.

  • Comment removed

  • M stands for Moronic. Thats what I feel like after trying to understand this.

  • Ed Witten is the man!

  • M is for MAMAMIA! (Theory)

  • M is for Membrane

  • 2:58 - See here, the honesty of science. "Our level of understanding is primitive." See, this is why I love science. It doesn't pretend to know when it doesn't.

  • special effects arrrgh

  • LOL @ Ed Witten's voice.

  • @420Khatz idd, on 0:19=>0:26. His voice provides a contrast for his huge achievement making him look even more own(and lol funny). Owned that problem like it was nothing. And somehow also the typical humor you'd expect from him when he said that.

  • "I suspect the M is an upside down of W" hahaha and that comes from a professor

  • I REALLY wish I could understand the math behind all of this stuff.

  • Every now and again some young musical prodigy pops up in the US proclaimed to be the new Mozart. Sure they are extremely talented and their achievements mind blowing...but on par with Mozart? Never. Now we have this chap Witten being compared to Einstein...that's got to be hilarious.

  • i think it means Multiverse Theoy...

  • M is for Micro-physics??

  • whats the documentaris name ?

  • i like cake!

  • @DoublePines

Ok, I'll bite. What's with the cake on all of these videos?

  • I like the Matrix version of the M theory!!!

  • M... for "membrane"

  • Smoke salvia and you will experience being in another dimension.

  • If at first you don't succeed, add another dimension.

  • @MPETE1976 hilarious

  • bEutiful... this is my dream.. a great abstraction of reality..

  • tHE MORE dimensions, the more degree of freedom.. beatiful...

  • M IS FOR MONKEY!!!

  • 5:50 watch out behind you!

  • 11 dimensions?? I think there could be infinite number of dimensions.

  • @sukha853319 what do you base your theory on?

  • I like it, logical

  • why does in every clip has to be a comment on "what's the name of the song?"

it's not even that great, wtf?

  • @dantheman1507 I seriously agree with you....every damb time on somebodys clip its....uh..whats the song....damb i wish they would slap themselves

  • what is the name of the cello song

  • Cello suite no1 - Bach

  • Insane in the membrane... insane in the brain!

  • @teemuruskeepaa love Cypress Hill - love Theoretical Physics

  • @teemuruskeepaa xD hahahahahahahahahahaha...AWSOME! humanity need to make a statue to you man...

  • @teemuruskeepaa insane in the brane!

  • string theory can be seen as beautiful when proved to be consistent.

  • M*therf*ckerthisshitissoawesomemybrainisovercookingwithawe-Theory.

  • i see alpha and omega to be a string, and time has unlimited dimension or i can be wrong, i'm no physics just a wanker.

  • M theory ?

  • M = membrane

1:29 through 2:09 applies to religion if you think about it

  • the M of M theory sands for the five points of an M

shape. Representing the fife different equations.

  • M theory = taking quantum theory into account might = Mind theory..?? also my theory is that the strings operate at different wave lengths within our dimension but unseen, might explain ghosts..

  • man theory.

  • The letter M has 5 points or corners which symbolizes the amount of string theories it unifies?

  • @Yabafrust91

You are a beast! nice observation

  • @Yabafrust91 and @Kindred1a1

Yes, but so does W, which,if following your theory of the points, would make more sense considering it's the first letter of his name.

  • Good point, but then again W-theory is harder to pronounce and doesn't sound as elegent as M-theory.

  • @Yabafrust91

    think M is really W.

Anyway, do Witten wrote any books about his theory? I want to learn about the string theory

  • yeah it's interesting stuff, but I don't know if he wrote a book on it. Physics=fun for me atleast.

  • @Yabafrust91 Mmmmmmmmmmmakes sense.

  • M = missing theory.

wow, thank you those who dedicated and discovered this theory.

  • i totally dont understand, i just learned 12 dimension of stiffness of element from FEM.

  • If think that Monsters Theory is the best.

  • wow .. that one guy's voice is so soft and girly

  • A `theory` that claims to be the unification of all...but, from its mathematical form, the mathematical form of the Standard Model has yet to be recovered (!)

  • @AtheistJames and Watarball

I 100% agree with AJames, I just want to mention that no everyone is "smart" or able to understand things and relate them to things they already know.

So my question: Why are any of you watching this video?Do you understand it? I'd be shocked if 10% of the 59 000+ views this video has is from people with a degree in Physics.

I am watching these videos to learn something, that may or may not be fact, that is why it is called a THEORY!!

    Be objective, and THEN think.

  • Theories in science are a step above scientific facts, you might be thinking of hypothesis.

  • I share your opinion, but surely you mean a step below? Scientific facts and theories are roughly equivalent, but facts are things which tend to have been positively proven whereas theories have lots of positive evidence and haven't been disproven.

  • Not really, because a scientific fact isn't absolute fact or idea, and I am not talking about which is more The Case, but which is more relevant to the way the universe consistently and reliably behaves. Theories explain how those observations connect, while yes the observations remain static and more-so "true," the theory connecting becomes more accurate and reliable, with just scientific facts you don't have much of anything at all save for measurements and scribbles on paper.

  • To really illuminate what I am getting at you'd have to read Isaac Asimov's The Relativity of Wrong, if you haven't already read it, I strongly suggest it. It's on many edu's for free so you can google it if you want too. He's does a better job than I in what I am trying to say.

  • The whole point of this video is that you don't have to have a physics degree to understand it. It's being presented with the layman in mind.

The presence of Brian Greene in the video should tell you that instantly!

  • how is time a dimension?

i can feel the three dimensions and understand that how they r dimension

    but how time?

  • As we are grown up since age 0, our height/weight/west dimension chages. right?

The time dimension starts at Big Bang, it ends at ???.

  • In relation to M-Theory, time does not begin at Big Bang, it was already there. It is theorized that two membranes collided creating our universe.

  • You guys are idiots for giving watarball thumbs-down just for asking a question. An admission of ignorance is the finest quality of a true scientist.

As for time, you'll want to check out the theory of relativity in-depth to understand how time is a dimension. Matter and energy are significantly affected by their position in space and velocity. These factors alter the flow of time for said matter, and thereby determine it's rate of entropy and spacial relation to the rest of the universe.

  • does all membrances has it's own time dimension? If the speed of light is the same in all membrances, then the time in each memnrance starts with the cillision which creates the membrabce and end of the dead of the membrance?

  • as in, you move through it at a constant rate, because it is not a space dimension it is not measurable in the way you would think of.

  • @watarball think of a 'time machine'. when you program the machine for your travel to your chosen point in space you need to enter 4 coordinates, your known 3 dimensions and then the fourth...time. I know it's abstract, but watch vids on the two dimensioners and focus on the moment that Brian Green steps out of the movie screen and then just think. It is hard for us to envision so for a bit, don't try to envision it. Think in the abstract. In what dimension does a thought exist?

  • Well, the problem with your time machine theory is that It can only go backwards. The universe has it's limits, even if it is ever-expanding. Which means that you can not go to a place or a time in this universe that does not exist yet. It's not physically or abstractly possible. You would end up in some kind of a paradox. If it even could work that way.

  • That is how an alternate dimension would exist or can exist, theoretically at least.

That is how spirits or other things would exist in an alternate dimension that we can not see.

  • Ex: go to space and look down on earth... do you see any humans--no. why? because they are too small and they do not clump together to make a whole.(they do not connect) imagine if their was a huge gathering of 6 billion people where people were overlapping and touching and ontop of each other. go to space again and look at earth. You will be able to see a mass of a gazillion small particles performing as one large object.

  • If you can't see one miniscule particle, then you can't see two that are next to each other but don't touch, that means you can't see three that are next to each other and don't touch, and so on and so on...

  • Ex. imagine smokeless fire. imagine the particles give off negative forces and they repel each other so they will never touch. imagine each particle is in comparison to a grain of sand(1 grain of sand is equal to the solar sytem and the single particle of that grain of sand is the size of a rock on earth) (extremely small) and they all work together, they each have different tasks, they are all "organs" to make one thing work in an alternate dimension.
