Running out into the street during an earthquake is not safe, you could/ probably would be hit by falling debris such as roof tiles or chimney stacks! What you should do is hide under a bed or stand inside a door frame.

You should experience the kinda earthquakes we have here in California. I've lived through a 6.7 which was scary. We're still waiting for the "BIG ONE" that will sink us into the Pacific Ocean. When that happens, buying new kickers and having a wooden seagull fall on your head will be the least of our problems
