  • still kick ass in 2011!!! great band!!! also henry sent me here!!!

  • @FOA507 still shit hot in 2012

  • the bizz

  • truly a fuckin brilliant band

  • Henry did a great job. How good were 'The Damned' that night?

  • My fav band when I was younger and still the same when I am older.

  • best drummer for a black punk band, next time hire the dude outta Def Leppard, Hes disadvantaged like a black person they say

  • malcolm owen-gone to soon

  • 31 years ago today .... RIP Malcolm

  • The Ruts, Minor Threat, Black Flag. 3 Bands that changed my fucking life for the better.

  • Malcolm Owen & Paul Fox RIP

  • Malcolm Owen- one of the most underappreciated front men of all time

  • Rock and Roll. Thank you very much!

  • 0:02 - a girl with "Miss Sou(th)..(???)" ribbon

  • Great song from 1979 i think, but the video is an awfull

  • differentiation and comparison are natural...

This is supreme stuff. The whole band make it so.

  • why try to compare. Pistols, clash, damned, buzzcocks, ruts, etc. all excellent in their own way. all saying something relevant. all extremely talented in their own way. don't compare, enjoy! Personally I loved the original ruts. Got The Crack as soon as it came out, then my mate grabbed Grin And Bear It when that came out. Superb, but not the only brilliant albums of the era.

  • i grew up hayes outskirts off london where the ruts came from rip m owen and foxy ablinding bunch of blokes!

  • So no mistake The Ruts!.... Smth that I said it was it smth that i said smth in my head?

  • Always preferred The Ruts to The Clash, they epitomised the end of the seventies and the advent of the eighties. They were a brief but stark clarion call for a new age. Can see why someone as passionate as Rollins would cite them as a major influence.

  • I can see why Rollins was this honored to play with them. I'd piss my jeans if I was asked to play with them too!

  • Nevermind the Sex Pistols, here's The Ruts.

  • Absofukinlutely fantastic.

  • This track, believe me I was there, sounded like nothing of it's time. When 'The Ruts' released this amazingly brilliant number it was such an exciting event in popular culture and I'm from Northern Ireland at this time of release! Some of the other punk tracks of the time sound a bit dated - I say this as a 70s punk! - but this could have been recorded yesterday. True class!

  • @maraband M.Owen was too fucking intense for his own good/

Burned up, and left us with some of the most incendiary 'punk' ever recorded.

    Burning INDEED.

  • Great song-most of their contemporaries couldn't come up with even one hook, and the Ruts seem to have had plenty...including the hook in the singers arm, unfortunately.

  • fucken superb,no sure about the video

  • Saw them at the Electric Ballroom 79/80? A few months before Malcom OD'd

  • UK Subs The Ruts 999 GBH say no more my son !

  • AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!

  • Oh to be 16 years old for most of 1979 ; BRILLIANT memories ; a different world then before Thatcher took a foothold and life was much better than now.Too much technology ruined things

  • Another of the best bands to come out that era!

  • myth

  • @robidc Fucking ICON mate.

  • Well, apart from this being one of the greatest Rock tracks ever recorded.... i''ve got fuck all to add!

  • This is punk genius!

  • THE RUTS-always wil be mine forever........x

  • The only OTHER band that matters.

  • Class

  • Fuck ROOOOOLLLLINS !

  • @jackw00pw00p im 46 and was born in the right year! haha i got this album in about 1982 and still love it.

  • yep me too top night much respect

  • still one of the best, west one is still a classic

  • sad that they were only round a short time

  • Got to agree ..first time I've seen this Vid but I have worn out 2 casettes listening to both the Ruts albums...genius ..

  • Great band, Sadly overlooked. Still sound fantastic even after 20years.

  • I just discovered the Ruts from the mouth of Henry Rollins.

    And holy shit...!

How fucking great is THIS? =D

  • Same for me :D

  • I was being positive, you jerk who thumbed me down.

  • me too! XD

    my new favorite!

  • same thing happened to me.

    Gotta love Rollins.

    Gotta love The Ruts.

  • @RamonePinhead im the same man

  • @RamonePinhead me too! Henry Rollins!

  • @RamonePinhead same!

  • @RamonePinhead

    I have there vinyl :)

  • Quality.

  • The poignancy lingers and grows ever more true!

  • One of the few P-rock bands that could play

  • I saw the Ruts In Shrewsbury Misic Ahll.. supported by The Flys.... They didn't need a support band at all.. they where fuckin Electric !!

    Lovin it :))

  • @Starfirephoenix1 i was at that gig and me and my mates were talking to malcombe owen in the bar,he give my mate a ruts badge which i think he still has.you have to wonder what malcombe owen would of gone on to do,he was a real talent and seemed a lovely geezer,he left a real impression on me,in just the few moments we shared. R.I.P MALCOMBE OWEN

  • Great band, and great shame about Malcolm.

  • Too bad he died in general, and it's even worse when considering the Ruts were getting better and better artistically. :(

  • my god this bring back memories another great singer who died young R.I.P

  • lucky for the ruts he didn't sound like rotten

  • Thankyou. (for posting this classic). Malcolm, shine on.

  • pure class. lets pull together and get this on the next guitar hero. what say you all...YES

  • fh guitar hero! u dumbass!

  • They had the licks and talent to rule the world. It's just too bad it had to end the way it did. One of the great tragedies of rock.

  • This was the first 7" vinyl I ever bought!

  • No hay en el mundo, un grupo de punk que suene como sonaron los Ruts, que grandes eran, que fuerza tenian tocando, si hay algun grupo que merezca elogios continuos esos eran ellos.

    Requiem for the Ruts!

  • what a song....no one will ever come close

  • Objection!

    IT WAS COLD... =D

Ruts are awesome, I bought THE CRACK when it was released... that's a long time ago...

  • the ruts are amzing

  • He reminds me ov Pete who won big brother! Cool music.

  • Great up, thanks.

  • my woodwork teacher was into punk, and he took a minibus upto bristol to see the damned with ruts and vice squad supporting. what a gig!!!

  • u had the worlds best woodwork teacher lol

  • I'm crying cos there is nobody out there that can do this to me anymore!

  • Steve mate, you're not the only one that feels that way about this band...i liked your comment coz i feel exactly the same...we need a genuine Ruts revival.

  • after this band, british music finished forever !!

  • Hmmmmmmm... what could she have said to shock Malcolm like that? :-) He never struck me as terribly timid.

And doesn't he look nice in a tux? (Wonder if if he had the braces underneath).

If nothing else, he deserves mad props for being a proud [natural] redhead when those were few and far between in the Punk scene!

  • fox rip

  • Thanks for uploading to show the world. We, the little dead end kids of upstate New York have been missing M for years now and will do so for many more. Lord,OH what could have been.

  • marvellous.... pure music

  • Hell yes. What a track.

  • American in terms of a sum. American=Ameba. X

American= Retarded Ameba in a coma. CORRECT.

I now think that puts everyone in the crystal azzure..

  • They were a welcome explosion at the tail end of late 70's punk evolution. I remember well John Peel's moving and shocked tribute to Malcolm Owen in 1980. Listen to Give Youth a Chance - it is an awesome song.

  • Yeah, I remember that night when John announced Malcolms death - a bad day for the British punk scene.

  • stupid fuckin yanks you know fuck all bout these tones..go back to ya ramones..zzz mild zzzz

  • well said mate.New York Dolls invented punk....FUCK OFF. Punk is a British thing. Something the yanks will never understand. Their so-called punk invention, we had ten years before. Just we called it Glam-Rock

  • amazin tune great band

  • great video and great song..when punk was good!! but drugs do kill

  • They may kill...But they're fucking fun

  • Ruts did not get the recognition they deserved ... to good for the AWM

  • Shame they're not more recognised. They had a lot of talent

  • check out foxt at myspace/foxysrutsuk . playing live

  • miss em bad . . .

    absolute genius ! !

has anyone got sus would love to see them playing that

  • One of the finest indeed :)

  • sounds american ?? Well you don,t know they,re songs.... The best band of the early punkaera

  • Like X Ray Spex. Under-rated, but for those who really know, one of the best bands ever. And a lesson that smack is a fucking killer without any glamour. Wake up!

  • Amazing clip, wow

  • Excellent still miss him

  • They were one of the best post-punk bands going. Used reggae in a better way the Clash. Sadly singer Michael Owen OD'd in summer 1980.

  • American MY ARSE, it's The Ruts, one of the UKs finest punk rock bands, they also did some fine reggae

  • sounds like an english band trying desperately to sound American.

  • f**k Off

  • fuck off go back to fucking little girls

  • That's rich coming from a cuntry who's only contribution to punk was Blondie and the Cars lol

  • with you're ears (and the rest between them) I doubt

if you can hear anything... Snot head

  • Twat

  • is that a self diagnosis?

  • Why exactly are you having a go at me for slagging americarulesyoudrool, as it was him i called a twat, and as i see you don't think much of him either.

  • Who'd wanna sound American? You know, thick as pig shit, inbred, talentless nation with no history of their own with hamburgers for brains. YES I think the whole world aspires to being American. I'll bring myself to your level now...FUCK OFF YOU MOTHER FUCKING CUNT. Now back to intelligent life.

  • I love the Ruts. R.I.P. Malcolm Owen
