why try to compare. Pistols, clash, damned, buzzcocks, ruts, etc. all excellent in their own way. all saying something relevant. all extremely talented in their own way. don't compare, enjoy! Personally I loved the original ruts. Got The Crack as soon as it came out, then my mate grabbed Grin And Bear It when that came out. Superb, but not the only brilliant albums of the era.

Always preferred The Ruts to The Clash, they epitomised the end of the seventies and the advent of the eighties. They were a brief but stark clarion call for a new age. Can see why someone as passionate as Rollins would cite them as a major influence.

This track, believe me I was there, sounded like nothing of it's time. When 'The Ruts' released this amazingly brilliant number it was such an exciting event in popular culture and I'm from Northern Ireland at this time of release! Some of the other punk tracks of the time sound a bit dated - I say this as a 70s punk! - but this could have been recorded yesterday. True class!
