I need an advertisement that tells me that if I'm not carefull with a kitchen knife, I'll cut my fingers off! This is stupid. Legal consumer firecrackers cannot blow your fingers off. I've personally watched my friend hold a black cat firecracker in his closed hand, light it and have it explode in his closed hand. His hand was sore but that was it. By the way, black cats have the maximum legal load of gun powder in them. So take your ad and shove it!

Once, a firework was lit on the ground and when it exploded a kebabs stick that was near flew right through a 6 year-old child's face and got his cheek. He was luck that it had not gotten in his eyes. Sometimes fireqorks may be dangerous.

Wow, so 2 out of 50 or so people get hurt from misusing fireworks. Chances are that person missing fingers was holding an non-consumer ('illegal') firecracker. A consumer firecracker would not blow off your fingers but you will get severly burned and hurt.

@fidstang It had to be an illegal firework. Illegal fireworks either don't have the registration or serial numbers on them, or no labels at all. The firecrackers that were around before 1966 like cherry bombs and silver salutes did injure and cause property damage. After that we had a limit of 200mg per cracker, they worst they could do if going off in your hand is give you a blood blister. Then in the early 1970s it was changed to 50 mg. per firecracker which is 4 times less.

What a load of rubbish. Just look at the fuse & let go before the firework ignites, stupid. When I was a kid, we used to go into the park, light the fuse on a 6" squib (real fireworks in those days), drop it into a milk bottle, hide behind trees & wait for the exploding glass. Great fun!

Fireworks are supposed to be secured in sand/earth before lighting or placed on a level flat surface NOT HELD!!! The only thing that can be safely held is a sparkler, preferably in a gloved hand and at arm's length.

Get lost! Fireworks used properly and according to instructions and directions printed on them and their packaging do NOT in general pose problems. Only misuse and abuse of consumer retail BS7114 fireworks causes the accidents or the illegal acquisition and ignition of of unknown origin non BS7114 compliant consumer retail fireworks causes problems;which would come to the fore if the retail sale/private use of fireworks was banned. You don't need a professsional if you do things right first time
