yes, that's what she meant. And yes, it is frustrating that he did not elaborate and say "why" he, well, many, felt that way...Yes, it is worth another interview! I'll let you know as soon as I am done : ) Can't wait!
@Kiyraesyn Hello : ) For some reason, I haven't been receiving your replies lately : ( I mean, like this one. I bought the only version of La Residencia I found on Amazon, and I am sure it is not the uncut uncut one. It was the only one I've found. When you say "I can help," you mean with my paper? : ) And, remember the video you wanted me to respond to? I never got the link. Where do you guys find all your stuff, your infos, your insights??
@Kiyraesyn I need your German expertise for the a better translation of " So nimm denn meine Haende" for my paper. The English subtitle, "My hands are your instrument" does not satisfy me and does not support the point I am making in that specific part... Thanks! : )
Please tell me what video you wanted me to respond to..I am dying to listen to it...and I will probably need your help with German if they talk too fast, as there will be no subtitles I am sure : )
I saw the Brauner video. My German is a little rusty - last time I spoke it was 11 yrs ago! Now, after having seen MIU a million times it is coming back, but the subtitles helped. I was trying to capture every word I could in the interview - I saw it 3 times - but missed some. I've got the message though...I wish they were still alive to ask them...If Lilli were still alive I'd try anything to meet her. I've seen other interviews of hers. That voice...it is like listening to Elisabeth herself.
Knock knock...I know you're probably busy doing other things - I know you have a life : ) - but I am dying to see that video you told me about two days ago, the one you wanted me to respond to...which is the one, I think, with them talking off camera? And I am about to look for that interview you said when Lilli talks about her and Romy. I love this conversation we're having, and it is obvious you know A LOT about this...don't leave me alone with my obsession : ) I saw it AGAIN last night!
Yes, definitely, let's talk! Just give me 2 weeks to get all finals and papers out of the way. Of course, for my lit class, I am writing a paper about Maedchen...of course!
.......what??? There WERE such rumors? Oh my God, it would be like having the two characters come even more to life...! I will definitely look for that interview: I actually hoped I'd find something with Lilli talking about that role of hers: thank you!!! In one of your replies you say " respond to this video with them talking off camera" but there is no link but the scientist YT video: tell me which one it is, pls, I can't wait!!!!!! And I mean...LITERALLY : )
That's awesome! They did meet, what a thing. I see you have a soft spot for both characters and actresses, and I did see there is something magnetic about Edwige too, besides it being clear that the connection between women in there was openly romantic...Yes, French boldness! But for me, so far, Elisabeth is just it. I am totally obsessed with the character...in case you did not notice, LOL! I'll watch and read them all though, for sure.
@Alchimie11 Oh yes, absolutely. There is something about how Lilli Palmer interprets that role that really just....gets to me. I know that Lilli herself was not at all homophobic because she was very good friends with Noel Coward and many other homosexuals. I also have heard several rumours that there may have been something between Lilli and Romy in actuality. Have you watched Artur Brauner's interview ? See if you can find it on YouTube. He said at one point that he really thought something
@Kiyraesyn A woman that plays that kind of role in 1958 can't be homophobic : ) But thank you for giving me the details because my admiration for her now is even bigger - if possible!....I can't believe there were such rumors!!!!!! Just...as I said...it's like Manuela and Elisabeth actually lived....I have things to do now and I hate it because all I want now is to look for that interview you told me!! And pls tell me which video you wanted me to respond to....can't wait!!
Do you know that I am delaying my reading because...I don't want it to be over??? I am beyond cure! What Elisabeth feels and thinks is what I want to know the most, definitely.Yes, we should definitely schedule a talk: I did not even know it could be done! I registered on YouTube just last week just to write about MIU...to give you a vague idea of what this movie has done to me : )
@Alchimie11 Yes, we should definitely schedule a talk. If you have Skype or Oovoo, or something like that, let me know and we can try to set up a day to do that. ;)
Also, after Manuela's book I'll be reading Olivia, and I have seen a couple of clips of that movie here...I am sure I will enjoy both, but, Maedchen is just another story. It's just these particular 2 people's story that I love, and the German factor, as I said, makes a further difference. I'll let you know what I think of both books. I seriously can't wait to see your work and Elisabeth and Manuela reunited. Good luck for your project: I hope someone sees the beauty in it asap : )
@Alchimie11 Right, I am partly German and I really have a close connection with Maedchen. For me, Olivia is a bit more complex and I am practically French, even though I'm English. lol. It's hard to explain. I have such a connection to Edwige Feuillère being in the Olivia film. It's ....different, quite. They are not the same exact story, and I am glad for that...each is unique and offers its own merits. But for Mlle Julie and Olivia, there is a more direct romantic attachment toward Olivia
@Alchimie11 And also, it is clear that Julie and Cara are romantic partners, not just co-founders of Les Avons. I like that. The French were a bit bolder.
@Alchimie11 Of course, Dorothy Bussy was English, but she was André Gide's translator and friend, and she studied under Marie Souvestre, who was also Eleanor Roosevelt's teacher. It's interesting to me, the life of Ms. Bussy, as she went back to Les Ruches to teach WITH Marie Souvestre (for whom she had a crush on as a child), and it is suggested in her novel that Olivia could simply go to Canada and teach with Julie there....but I won't give any more away....you'll see. I am a HUGE....
@Alchimie11 ....fan of both Lilli Palmer and Edwige Feuillère. They are two completely different women, through and through...and I was once thinking to myself...it's too bad they never met each other. And then I realised, that they DID, in fact, meet ! The film "La Vie à Deux" features both of them, in separate vignettes but still and all, they must have met each other. :D
You know, now that you've told me you are as obsessed as I am, I feel better : )...I have to watch it every day! And I rewind scenes again and again to catch, as you said, body language and every word they say...And yes, I have ordered the book AND the Olivia book..will look for the Olivia movie on you tube right after this...I feel better that I am not the only one! CAN'T WAIT to see them reunited! When will we see your sequel?? Tell me!! ...and you OWN the movie? You own Elisabeth? : )
@Alchimie11 I have indeed seen La Residencia (The House That Screamed), and I suggest you try very hard to find an UNCUT version of the film. It is worthwhile to see Lilli Palmer because she is quite excellent; in fact, she carries the whole movie. Of course, she is not the same character as she played in Maedchen, but she is almost more likeable (in an almost twisted sort of way). Olivia had me thinking so much...it's more complex and there's more obvious a connection between the teacher and..
@Kiyraesyn I saw a couple of scenes of La Residencia, and of course Lilli Palmer is great....and, of course, I see Elisabeth in her still: I see her in every clip of Lilli. it is interesting that you say that she is almost more likable...in which sense? I find it hard to believe : ) I just love Fraulein von Bernburg. Also, I see you are a professional in the movie industry, that'a awesome...and you know her son?!?? Wow... I feel closer to her already, by reflection : ) Got the book finally!

I find it hard to believe : ) I just love Fraulein von Bernburg. Also, I see you are a professional in the movie industry, that'a awesome...and you know her son?!?? Wow... I feel closer to her already, by reflection : ) Got the book finally!!!!!
@Alchimie11 ...(continued) her female student. Dorothy Strachey Bussy was inspired by her own life as well as by Das Kind Manuela and the original 1933 version of Maedchen when she wrote Olivia. Do let me know when you've read it and also note that I am in the middle of securing rights to remake and adapt the 1951 film. As for Lilli Palmer, I have seen nearly every one of her movies and I am personally acquainted with her son, Carey Harrison (her only child). He's a grand fellow, so good a man.
@Alchimie11 I cannot say anything more about production or release dates at all, because I simply don't have an answer just yet. Several studios have reviewed my project but none of them has contacted me, including Sony Pictures Entertainment, FilmColony, Finite Films and Paradigm Agency. I'm still hoping upon hope that someone will pick it up !!
You read my mind!! I've been asking myself the same question for days! Was it reciprocal?? I can't decide! What do you think? At times I think it was just really strong, deep affection from Fraulein von Bernburg but not "that" kind of love, at times I think she felt as Manuela did but just could not and did not want to admit it....tell me what you think! It will take time to be cured from this...I am downloading all I can about this movie and Lilli Palmer in the 50s/60s...
@Alchimie11 Yes, there are many questions that I have answered in my screenplay. Read the book Das Kind Manuela if you haven't already. :) I have written not a modern version or revamp, but an actual sequel about them reunited years later, sort of as it is depicted in this video by Marta. :)
Also, look for a book and movie called Olivia written by Dorothy Strachey Bussy, and the film has Edwige Feuillere. If you don't speak French, there are subtitles. It is here on YouTube.
@Kiyraesyn Can't wait to have the book "das Kind Manuela"....can't wait! I'll look for those movies. I also found out that Lilli played a lesbian teacher of an all-girl school in the Spanish horror " the house that screamed," but, to be honest, I am afraid to watch it because if it spoils the image of Fraulein von Bernburg I'll be seriously pissed off...Elisabeth can't be touched, I am sure you know what I mean. Did you see it?
@Alchimie11 My obsession matches yours, believe me. I own the film and I have watched it hundreds of times, trying to decode all of Elisabeth's body language and analyse it. Finally, I simply sat down and offered up my solution to it. Hence, a screenplay. I have also adapted a remake of Olivia as well.
@Alchimie11 You see... déjà vu. Seriously. The bugger question tormented me also. But I'm inflexible in my opinion. :) Yes. It was reciprocal. It was that kind of love. But it's just impossible to explain all my theory in 400 characters... :( Read "The Child Manuela" (but be prepare for the end). It's beautiful.
As for Lilli Palmer's movies, go for The Pleasure of his Company - She's unbelivable gorgeous; The Four Poster; Conterfait Traitor; But not for me; Body and Soul. But my favorite is MiU.
@MPoppins007 You know, I have been thinking about it for days now, and I think I agree with you. It was reciprocal, but Elisabeth could not even admit it to herself...the way she looks at Manuela when she says that yes, they'll never see each other again! Absolutely heartbreaking!! And yes, it is impossible to talk about it in 400 characters. I wish I had you guys here to talk about this for hours...don't leave me alone with my obsession : ) I am writing a college paper about this.
@MPoppins007 Do you know what video Kiyraesyn talks about when she says there is one with the 2 of them talking off camera?? I know people have lives : ) but I haven't heard from her for more than a couple of days and I am dying to see/hear that thing...: ) Did you ever see the uncut uncut La Residencia in the end?
Remember, when I am done with these damn tests - I only love papers, not tests : ) - we need to schedule our talk : ) ! Looking forward to it!
@Alchimie11 I'm not sure if there is such a video. I think what @Kiyaesyn meant was about the Brauner video, when he very mildly tells his suspicions. It's enerving that he didn't elaborated or justify his guessing. It's worth another interview ;)
I never saw the uncut uncut La Residencia. I've never been able to find it. Wish I could. It's a interesting movie.
Whenever you are done with your tests, let us know. :)
I found out about this movie 2 weeks ago, bought it, and I can't say how many times I've watched it since. SERIOUS obsession with it! Loved the video here...and you are working on the sequel?? Screenplay? Pls tell me about it!
I know you were thinking about the next Fraulein von Benburg,: there are many beautiful actresses around, but Lilli was so BEYOND gorgeous AND perfect for the part that I am sure you know any actress would be no match right now. Pls tell me about your work!!!!
@Kiyraesyn Yes, exactly: I was trying to figure out who it was between the two of you. Tell me, I want to know everything. I am an English major in college and, back home, I was an English and German major, so I loooove literature and I also have a soft spot for German, besides being really obsessed with this movie...tell me! And, what about the question I asked Mpoppins? Do you think the love was reciprocal?
@Alchimie11 Thank you so much for watching it! It's amazing what the movie can do to us. I've been there. The same SERIOUS obsession. I'm not sure I'm cured yet. But the million dollar question is: "Was the love reciprocal?" This can evokes long heated duscussions. As @Kiyraesyn said, the sequel screenplay is all hers. And I'm so very excited about it. And it's so true: Lilli Palmer was beyond gorgeous and perfect and it'll be hard to find someone else to play the dearest Fraulein von Bernburg.
P.S. I love The Counterfeit Traitor too...so sad that Lilli's character dies in that film, but it is excellent. Sorry for the spoiler in this comment ! XD
@Kiyraesyn So very true! And she aged beautifully! Got more beautifull as the time went by. She was drop dead gorgeous in MiU at 44. And again in Counterfeit traitor at, what? amost 50?
@MPoppins007 YES ! When I saw MiU the first time, I could not BELIEVE she was 44 !!!! Indeed, even in her last film with Michael Cain, she looks stunning at 71. There are few women who age as gracefully as she did. Helen Mirren is one of them though, I must say !
@MPoppins007 : Yes it would be very interessting to see Miu 2, but the actresses are died and I think only this Person (Lilli & Romy) can play the 2. Episode from Miu!!!
@MPoppins007 I have written a script for a sequel; of course we can't have Lilli and Romy but I am considering Julia Ormond and someone else; any casting suggestions ? Haha ! I love this video, love the ending.
@Kiyraesyn OMG!! You've written a script?!! I would love to read it, if you could share it, of course. Are you planing on filming it? I wonder who has the rights of Madchen in Uniform (the story)... since it's from 1931, I believe it might be already public domain.
Now, casting suggestions, I'll have to get back to you on that. But that would be fun to do! How old would Manuela be?
@MPoppins007 Yes, I certainly have ! Unfortunately, it does NOT fall under the public domain because its film rights have been renewed, just as the rights for 1951 "Olivia" that was the same theme set in France based on Olivia by Dorothy Strachey Bussy, directed by Jacqueline Audry, written by Colette, has been renewed. I'm working on a re-make of that film also, negotiating film rights with the copyright claimaint as we speak.
@FlewMary I figured that FvB, while (almost) shaking Manuela in the end of the movie, should have said "wait a few years.... You never know..." LOL So, that gave me the idea for the end of this video. But I was affraid it was way too cheesy.
So glad you liked it! Thank you for watching and for the comment!!
very very beautiful...! best wishes from germany.

Alchimie11 10 months ago
@Alchimie11 Yes. We should schedule a live talk, also with @Kiyaesyn . It'd be fun!
The book will better explain Elisabeth feeling and actions. As I said before, it's beautiful and heartbreaking!

@MPoppins007 By the way, I'd love to hear your theory, seriously. The whole thing : )
Alchimie11 10 months ago
@MPoppins007 Do you know what video Kiyraesyn talks about when she says there is one with the 2 of them talking off camera?? I know people have lives : ) but I haven't heard from her for more than a couple of days and I am dying to see/hear that thing...: ) Did you ever see the uncut uncut La Residencia in the end?
Remember, when I am done with these damn tests - I only love papers, not tests : ) - we need to schedule our talk : ) ! Looking forward to it!
Alchimie11 10 months ago
@Alchimie11 I'm not sure if there is such a video. I think what @Kiyaesyn meant was about the Brauner video, when he very mildly tells his suspicions. It's enerving that he didn't elaborated or justify his guessing. It's worth another interview ;)
I never saw the uncut uncut La Residencia. I've never been able to find it. Wish I could. It's a interesting movie.
Whenever you are done with your tests, let us know. :)

Hi : )
I found out about this movie 2 weeks ago, bought it, and I can't say how many times I've watched it since. SERIOUS obsession with it! Loved the video here...and you are working on the sequel?? Screenplay? Pls tell me about it!
I know you were thinking about the next Fraulein von Benburg,: there are many beautiful actresses around, but Lilli was so BEYOND gorgeous AND perfect for the part that I am sure you know any actress would be no match right now. Pls tell me about your work!!!!
Alchimie11 10 months ago
@Alchimie11 I think you will want to discuss the sequel in more detail with me. I'm the one who wrote it. ;)
Kiyraesyn 10 months ago
@Kiyraesyn Yes, exactly: I was trying to figure out who it was between the two of you. Tell me, I want to know everything. I am an English major in college and, back home, I was an English and German major, so I loooove literature and I also have a soft spot for German, besides being really obsessed with this movie...tell me! And, what about the question I asked Mpoppins? Do you think the love was reciprocal?
Alchimie11 10 months ago

XD

@Kiyraesyn Counterfeit Traitor is one of my favorites!! Lilli is perfect in it. <3
MPoppins007 1 year ago
@MPoppins007 She's perfect in everything lol...most beautiful woman EVER ! XD
Kiyraesyn 1 year ago
@Kiyraesyn So very true! And she aged beautifully! Got more beautifull as the time went by. She was drop dead gorgeous in MiU at 44. And again in Counterfeit traitor at, what? amost 50?
MPoppins007 1 year ago
@MPoppins007 YES ! When I saw MiU the first time, I could not BELIEVE she was 44 !!!! Indeed, even in her last film with Michael Cain, she looks stunning at 71. There are few women who age as gracefully as she did. Helen Mirren is one of them though, I must say !

@Kiyraesyn Haha... I'll consider it. Isn't his music a little to fast? Well... let's see how that's gonna work. ;P

@katess77 :))) Thanks!! I sure would love to watch that in "Madchen in Uniform 2" LOL Thanks for watching it!
MPoppins007 1 year ago
@MPoppins007 : Yes it would be very interessting to see Miu 2, but the actresses are died and I think only this Person (Lilli & Romy) can play the 2. Episode from Miu!!!
katess77 1 year ago
@katess77 Yes... unfortunately :(
MPoppins007 1 year ago
@MPoppins007 I have written a script for a sequel; of course we can't have Lilli and Romy but I am considering Julia Ormond and someone else; any casting suggestions ? Haha ! I love this video, love the ending.
Kiyraesyn 1 year ago
@Kiyraesyn OMG!! You've written a script?!! I would love to read it, if you could share it, of course. Are you planing on filming it? I wonder who has the rights of Madchen in Uniform (the story)... since it's from 1931, I believe it might be already public domain.
Now, casting suggestions, I'll have to get back to you on that. But that would be fun to do! How old would Manuela be?
Thanks again for the comments!! ♥♥♥
MPoppins007 1 year ago
@MPoppins007 Yes, I certainly have ! Unfortunately, it does NOT fall under the public domain because its film rights have been renewed, just as the rights for 1951 "Olivia" that was the same theme set in France based on Olivia by Dorothy Strachey Bussy, directed by Jacqueline Audry, written by Colette, has been renewed. I'm working on a re-make of that film also, negotiating film rights with the copyright claimaint as we speak.
We will see !
Manuela would be in her twenties. 22 or 23.

@Kiyraesyn I would certainly like to see another version of this story; please keep me in touch about your progress with your project.

Thanks for this wonderful video :)
FlewMary 1 year ago
@FlewMary I figured that FvB, while (almost) shaking Manuela in the end of the movie, should have said "wait a few years.... You never know..." LOL So, that gave me the idea for the end of this video. But I was affraid it was way too cheesy.
So glad you liked it! Thank you for watching and for the comment!!
