I think -- in case it wasn't obvious -- this was a joke. Someone matched a soundtrack of awful bass-playing to this video. The reason I say that is, if you watch closely, the hand drummer starts playing but you don't hear him. I don't know. Maybe Im wrong.
I totally agree. Looks like he has picked up this instrument for the first time in his life, and is just hitting the strings randomly. And I don't care about the effect he tries to make. This sounds worse than when I try to play the violin (which is indeed very bad). Psychedelic or not; learn to play properly, before trying to play otherwise...
Yeah, ok man, i bet you've never picked up a bass in your life. And even if you have, go grab one and try to make those sounds yourself. That guy is expressing pure feeling, he doesn't necessarily NEED to limit himself to notes and time signatures.
funny you should say that, 'cause I've been playing the double-bass for quite some time now. Mostly classical, of course, but also jazz and other music-genres.
The sounds that he makes are more of the kind that I was trying to get rid of during my first week on the instrument or something, so I stick to my first comment.
Technique was something to watch taking in the context of the performance, however the shrill effects was a bit much and then the arco on top of that was a real buzz kill. Tone down the effects and I'd consider sharing this with others.
Those are some low tension strings hahahaha
