the gengar's explosion is actually pretty weak but the foe had sucky non ev trained pokemon, thats why they died. i have a better strategy with follow me then belly drum with zard, and then send out electrode to explode once togetic dies and use endure salac berry with charizard

Well, even if ubers are used cheaply by many people, it's not like the strategy you used isn't cheap also. Just because you don't use ubers doesn't mean you're automatically not cheap.

It's not just the pokemon nor the trainer. It's both. Maximise the usefulness of the Pokemon's 4 moves and you can do well. Strategy is also very important so bear that in mind.
