  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • brilliant video

  • The question is not what am I going to do...

My question is what is cloud computing going to do for me?

  • This is a cloud

  • @7:55 cloud confusing .... ha haha..

  • To see cloud computing in an application setting check out our videos. We are creating customized boutique cloud designs that address customer's complex workflow, transactions, and business needs.

  • Haha the Gilmour Gang guy. "Ahhh it's pretty exciting stuff, it's pretty much like the only thing that's going on right now, Right?"

Is it just me or did they just find people that don't have any idea what all this cloud computing is all about.

  • Cloud computing means SMBs don't need to buy their own servers. They can access the cloud servers from anywhere, and they don't need to worry about data security, backup and any complicated technical issues.

  • Check out a company called Abiquo: Follow them on twitter at #abiquo.

Unlike other cloud products that were built as tactical solutions to support a specific hypervisor technology, Abiquo was developed from a strategic top-down perspective, to allow customer environments to both fully deliver on the promises of virtualization, and to transition geographically disparate datacenter installations and third party hosted resources, into a fully managed enterprise cloud operating at a global scale.

  • 8:56 LOL!!!!!!!

  • Cloud Computing is a plot to monopolize information by centralizing all the data in one single network in one part of the world (US). They really try to explain it as vague as possible so you only see the "positive" side of it. Cloud Computing is a MARKETING TRAP!

  • LOL Sam Lawrence... heheh marketing answer!

  • is it just me or Rod Boothby looks like Vince Vaughn? XD

  • Global growth in development demand will increase the importance of high-leverage application frameworks that enable more rapid development of higher-quality products.Check Nick Carr's video on Cloud: Creating Value Despite Commoditization

  • thumbs up if you still dont have a clue of what cloud computing is

  • my wife said my heads in the cloud!

  • I have computer fog horns for sale....

  • there is a co by name Datasisar. google datasisar to get thier website, they seems to have a good solution offerings all working in the cloud

  • bubblelicious

  • U$50.000.00 mil dólares da em 12 mese aproximadamente”: U$ 1.437.985,36

  • lammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmme

  • "Cloud Computing" is the newest surveillance technology to watch your dumbass.

George Orwell would have been proud.

Cloud Computing is a Global Server Network for the Masses.

  • for more definitions and explanations from experts visit

  • thumps up for maggie fox

  • You would find a more unified set of answers if you asked these people to define ‘Love’ or ‘Beauty’ and such terms based in the arts world. This should not be the case! Science should be kept exact and not allow it to be tainted by imaginary and highly subjective concepts.

  • with cloud computing only mega corporations like Google, amazon will alone own the cloud, & run the operations, services, processes. All other companies will procure service from them. It will be like we buy utility from ComEd, service oriented architecture or Service on Demand

  • I think cloud computing will be about consolidations to reduce the cost and transfer the risk to the center.

Google, Intel and large will acquire infrastructures, and the big fish like Google, amazon, Intel will eat all small fish.

The medium & smaller corporations will yield to the trend of cloud computing to save on cost & remain viable, just like they yielded to outsourcing to save on cost

American Companies will be able focus on building capabilities, quality applications at lower cost

  • Vamshi Krishna at 9:16 had the best definition in my opinion. Also the shortest

  • @KhanSlayer, my thoughts exactly, the rest sounded like romantic talk from people who made a few million $ in silicon valley

  • These people make no sense at all. They sit there and explain Cloud computing without explaining EXACTLY what it is.Then you have this one douche who says.. "oh you dont see a cloud.. you see air" Really? WTF ............

  • Cloud computing is only a fashion name to sell same hardware and software, i think that the solution of hosting performance and reduce cost is to use what we have, my idea is to develop a real distributed operating system, and a big pear to pear sharing. The power of human beans is the colaborative between us.

  • cloud computing is clearly described by Maggie fox @3:17

  • Who gives a rat's ass. You can stuff your fucking techo-geek buzz-words up your geek asses.

Revenge of the nerds has come true.

  • @sweetsweatyfeet

It so true that people really get off sounding like a tech geek aka fucking weirdo. Speak english so people can understand what ever blah blah blah bs you are trying to speak on.

  • Why do techies have to use complicated jargon? I think Maggie Fox gave an intelligent answer without using confusing jargon, it doesn't have to sound complicated to be considered smart. Cloud Computing sounds like some fad to me.

  • Chris Carif is drunken !!

  • Maggie Fox gave the best answer. Everyone else used trumped up bloated "resume" hyperbolic language.

  • one word: ubiquitous

  • cloud computing is just another form of control by goverment. please only businesses want this or gov services.

I dont want any of my work or files some where else where i have no hold or say over it.

Personally i love building my own pc and install programs to either make a spread sheet or hack a program.

  • @jmidesigns

Dude i agree. I dont much like actually using them but building them piece by piece and making sure the air flow is right to keep the temperature down so my Mother bored or CPU dont over heat.

  • Cloud computing is the new over used buzz word which give a place for quazi technical people (Upper Management) to burry their heads in the sand.

  • It appears the only cloud here is between the ears of the speakers in this video. How embarrassing for them.

  • Cloud computing is a bad thing. It means that big brother will control what you do, and can control when you do it. Visit my channel and view my video on why cloud computing is a bad thing.

  • niceee

  • wow. is there ANYONE that can explain what "cloud computing" is? with OUT referring to what they are trying to explain; as a cloud? Of course not! These people have no clue, they are just repeating what they heard and were explained in a conference without any clue themselves what it is. I'll stick to a dedicated sever, because there is no difference, just a marketing technique.

  • Yeah lets let the beast system of the NSA just take over are computing for us I'm sure it will be fine. I mean the federal government has a flawless track record of respecting our privacy. and let get some biometric identifiers implanted to access the cloud while we're at it. Just ask your self what if a Hitler got control of the cloud.

  • Lol.. the guy Chris that's talking about the bolts of lightning is either really hammered or a very strange person. I can tell that he knows what he's talking about but he certainly isn't conveying the message in a sane way! Love it.

  • Learn more and get started on the Cloud for free at msdev DOT c o m

  • Wow! What a superstar line-up.

  • Cloud computing is awesome!

  • youtube videos, the channels, the community contributing content including this comment of mine is one of the best examples of what the cloud computing is all about.

  • ticket to heaven

  • ive got an exam on cloud computing, could one of u guys do it for me lolllll

  • I've got an exam on this, do u guys want to do it for me??

  • it sounds like a botnet to me, just with a whole lot of internet servers doing the computing, if one goes down, noone will notice. the other ones will take over the workload until it's up and running again.

    Pretty uninteresting for me.

  • Cloud Computing = You connect to the internet throught a dumb terminal to access your files/data and and using the online hardware & applications available to you as a service. NO INTERNET CONNECTION YOU ARE SCREWED BASICALLY!. And then there are the security & trust issues.

  • Chris Carfi 8:57 FTW. so completely off but so right on.

  • what is with these vague bullshitty explanations?? I want to know WHAT CLOUD COMPUTING IS not its potential effect on my spiritual condition

  • They should line up all of these cunts and shoot them

  • "Hi, 'im Jhonnie Knoxville, welcome to Jackass"

    The question is:

    Disponibility; Confiability and Security

  • I suppose this concept would probably be quite suitable for the millions of ppl who don't really get online very often and when they do, they are just checking their email and getting on Facebook. As far as ppl who run a lot of applications and design their own programs, this method of housing your sensitive information at some virtual warehouse is a bad idea. I think it could work for some ppl, not everyone.

  • Singer-payer type control for the information elite.

    Saving money through cloud computing?

You get what you pay for.

    jjgfx, I agree completely.

  • Wow, what a bunch of ignorant jackasses... Christ, I hope this what the industry considers the brightest..... Cloud computing is your data locked up by a 3rd party that can do what they wish with it, while you suffer needlessly from terrible performance.

  • man, 70 % of u dont have a damm idea of cloud computing, u guys tigh ur laces, u are gonna loose, because u dont know wht u are geting into

  • thinking about this properly now, i dont think i like the idea of cloud computing, the lack of control for the user scares me!

  • so agree with you

  • It's not about that, it's just kind of like renting someone else's computer (who has software you don't have) without having to buy the application or worry that your computer doesn't have the specs to run the application.

  • It seems like this is the old mainframe/dummy terminal idea...back from the dead.

  • I hadn't fully realized how charismatic Tim O'Reilly is until watching this video. Good find! Thank you. --Señor cloud

  • lol hahahaha, 9:07

  • Jay Cross wins best dressed. And I remain: The Most Interesting Cloud in the World. Stay safe, my friends.

  • Some of Tim O Reilly comments around 6-8 minute mark was very good..

  • Two decades ago, IBM tried to distribute applications running transparently to the user into differentl and geographically Mainframes, connected through a cloud(=internet). For me its a revival of that concept.

  • Cloud = Internet.

But the difference is ALL the computing will be does with the "cloud". Their won't be PC's anymore. Just dumb terminals.

  • will you be able to run various application or programs at the same time with this kind of technology? or by using an operating system such as like google chrome os? and if so that would be great!

  • So basically these experts do not know what Cloud Computing is. It's just another media excuse to sell magazines. The concept of distributed computing has been around for decades, only now a marketing geek stumbled upon it. Same happened with web 2.0 a while ago. It's just a natural evolution of things, there's no specific point in time when you can say it started or when there will be a web 3.0. But I bet O'Reilly made a lot of money on it, as will happen to the CC guys.

  • LOL. "It's just another media excuse to sell magazines."

     You are absolutely right man!

  • Comment removed

  • Ok. What's a cloud?

  • Well. When you connect to the internet, there are thousands of different connections that your computer will go through. When the original developers were drawing out the system of the internet, they would draw a cloud to represent all these complex connections. That's the could.

  • I thought clouds were water vapor.

  • That is because the servers are in the clouds of the internet

  • aren't they already?

  • Sounds to me like all your personal information and data is going to be stored some place you have no clue as to where it is, and noone else will have reliability to owning that data either. Sounds like a great plan!!! Here let me install surveillance cameras in my home as well and host it in the "cloud". -.-

  • @eflesh21 That's next, but before that, your fridge, coffee pot and microwave will be hooked into the net, 'reporting' back to it's manufacturers usage information, catalogueing the items you store (through RFID or related tags), etc.

It puts the power of ubiquitous information in the hands of the corporations, and on a grander scale, "The Grid", as CERN might call it. Some others would call it "The Beast"

  • @eflesh21 Greatest comment of all time

  • @eflesh21 privacy and security is what I am worried about.

  • This is also the future of Windows Mobile Phones (mainly referring to WM7)

  • the easiet way i was explained is that its like playing a video game on playstation like supercross and building your own superbike picking which tires,125cc or 250cc,suspension or headers. Now iif you relate it to cloud computing it would be storage, processing, firewall and security, software and you will have to pay for what you want the internet is just a pathway to get there, sounds good to me as long as the price is right.

  • WHY is there only one sound channel in most of the video? This is unbelievably annoying

  • If you need an internet connection and a remote server does that not mean, by definition that you need hardware. My definition of cloud computing all encrypted data in the atmosphere as microwave radiation or "signal" never resting in a server but being constantly transmitted so that there are a fairly limited number of servers. But then again I'm just a cleaner,

  • OK. Obviously, cloud computing doesn't really exist, and nobody knows what cloud computing is supposed to be.

  • losers

  • The first 4 iterations of cloud computing will be more like "loud computing" and "cloud polluting"... just look at the last 4 generations of computing and the current state of the internet... that should give you a sneak preview of the near future.

  • Cloud computing quite easily comes from the two words. It's the notion of the computation happening in the cloud so only the UI aspect occurs on the Users device allowing for more more device to complete task with the end goal to be application independence from the OS.

Google Apps is a good example of it's almost there state... Google Apps still has some issue to dell with(mobile side)

When the laptop is thrown in the bin we will know cloud computing has arrived... (desktops are already gone)

  • that would be deal sorry...

  • Steve Marks the developer advocate from Google came closest to what I consider the best description of Cloud Computing. It is the continuation and expansion of a long trend.

The term Cloud computing refers to efforts to further abstract the provision and consumption of information and computing services worldwide by generalizing dependencies on propietary H/W and software.

NOTE: - those dependencies on h/w and s/w still exist "here on the ground!"

  • Taken together, these descriptions indicate that the idea of Cloud computing is still somewhat.... foggy.

  • How is this different from SAAS?

  • hey men how come the best answer was the womans lol hmmmm

  • these guys especially ole kevin really need to get a life although theres still hope for jay lol

  • hey justin i guess you didnt see the lol. dont be so serious buddy, lighten up lol lol lol

  • CLOUD COMPUTING = GRID COMPUTEING??

    Who can tell me ?

  • I got interested in cloud computer after reading articles about Onlive game console.Currently, I am still looking for cloud computing article and video to know what that means. I think Cloud computing and Grid computing are different. Even though, many people in above video used the terms interchangeably. Grid computing is many computers work on the one problem in order to speed up. Cloud computing is one client computer is getting(streaming) other computer's works without actually computing.

  • These guys are pretentious and just wanna show off their importance and their knowledge to the less knowing. But the fact is that the people who really know stuff and can generate value from technology are the people who can make it simple, functional and useful and don't just talk bullshit.

    No offence! ;)

  • Another thing...

Could computing = smaller/ mobile pc?

Relying majority of processing and data storage in a cloud system instead of local PC meaning cutting the amount of hardware (size and weight), so dual/quad core no longer needed for PC?

But the internet have to be as fast & reliable & large bandwidth as the current hardware speed (read & processing)RAM, HDD and the Chip, but there is no infrastructure like that in world.

  • Hmmm...

It sounds like all softwares are moving away from stand-alone pc's computing, but a web based.

Sound great for gaming & "instant" VPN remote access for data and portable-application used on server same goes for those annoying drivers, update and OS.

What about if I can't connect to the web due to security firm policy or simply my network is out of range? My pc no longer works? Due to absence of OS & other applications? Seem to suggess virus infection could spread quicker too?

  • Very good video. I've found that the leader in cloud based document management in NetDocuments. They've been at it 10 years and are still leading the industry. I've been very happy with them.

  • Several perceptions .. Well prepared!

  • Cloud computing per se is really only about providing scalable, on demand computing infrastructure/platform as a service, so you can pay for it when you need it, with most of the hassle (like OS/development software) automagically taken care of.

What Cloud technology offers as possibilities, however, is a lot bigger than that. Just like Web 2.0 as technology is pretty much only AJAX, but it transformed the Web as applications could become alive and interactive.

  • Cloud computing is really cool, but the first gap to be fixed is the integrity of the data, we have a lot of testimonials like:"I lost X document or "I lost X and Y document", so in my review, this is the first challenge.

  • What i get cloud computing, doing your all work online, that is cloud computing! Take an example making an assignment on Microsoft word. It does not directly update on net. where as working on Google docs our all work can updated there easily.Like we are doing work online.

  • I like Maggie Fox's explanation the best. Simple explanation, succinct, and to the point.

  • Yeah, I like it too. She described what it was and the others mostly explained what it did or what you could do with it.

  • Thanks, @ckajita!

  • The guy with the beer in his hand, is on his way to the cloud if he has another beer.

  • blah blah blah...the ONLY good definition was the Maggie Fox one. Cloud computing is a total regression to the old mainframe days, where you had to 'schedule computing time' in order to do stuff. It is the same now, just that nowadays you can also pay a subscription.

Why we advanced SO much with hardware to at the end step back and fall again in the pitfall of 'we just need (web) terminals'? Im not a hardware developer, and i really care about web and networks, but it is depressing anyway.

  • Thanks, @gadget00 - I tried to keep it simple ;-)

  • @gadget00 ... and here I thought I was alone in my observation of "the Cloud" being the PC version of the old mainframe dumb terminal. Why does history repeat itself? Why does history repeat itself? :)

  • Cloud Computing? Death of Microsoft if they don't get their arse in gear!

  • Try looking at Live Mesh to see Microsoft's first kind of cloud.

  • Guys, do you think that the man with the beer in his hand was the drunkest one?

  • ABSOLUTELY TRUE !!!! He does some movements and looks to the camera with eyes open..... Omg.... I am afraid him.

  • Dear God. A whole bunch of experts and only two of them are able to answer the question. The rest just used border-line technobabble to say nothing.

Like others said, Maggie Fox explained it the best (and still was humble about it). She proves it's not hard to explain Cloud Computing to people. Vamshi Krishna used more technical words than her, but still managed to explain it as well. Good for you, guys!

Also, liquid paper? WTF, "experts". WTF.

  • @Kreachure I've been working in computing for 12 years, and some times all the technobabble drives me up the wall. It's usually something very simple and they go out of their way to make it sound more complex than it is by using jargon.

  • Cloud computing means IT will all be unemployed. You don't have to call help desk for an IT guy to come in and fix your computer.

  • Really? Who's going to keep the servers, switches, and routers up and running in the cloud? What happens when the hardware on your computer craps out? What happens when the printer you are trying to print to suddenly dies? Is the magic cloud genie gonna come down and grant you a wish? Nope, IT is going to more than likely increase do to this new technology demand. Also there are other avenues that IT encompass so unemployment isn't an issue.

  • Its what chinese saying "cooking on cold rice again". Similar to Ajax, web 2.0 ... etc

  • Maggie provided the best definition of cloud computing without having to repeat "cloud" numerous times in the definition. Thank goodness they interviewed a woman!

  • I agree, Maggie nailed it.

  • Yeah, her answer is somewhat clear.

if you need hardware or software, that is not cloud computing.

    OK, I got that. BUT.

what is definition of hardware? would a screen consider to be a hardware? would a keyboard consider to be a hardware?

what is the definition of software? would a program that grape the information from the internet to present to your screen consider to be a software? would a screen driver consider to be a software?

  • lichtakira, doesnt she say "if you need hardware beyond a laptop?" obviously the laptop (screen and all) is hardware and your gateway to the cloud. if anything else is needed, including software its not cloud computing

  • haha. you are catching some word bugs here. if you try to catch that word bugs. just before the words that you quoted, she said" If you need software, it is not cloud computing. If you need hardware beyond a laptop, it is not cloud computing."

  • My understand of cloud computing is that cloud computing is an internet based application/data central system, it provides application/data service to user.

Say, you just need an internet connection 2 the cloud, then you can run nuclear reaction simulation on a P1 machine. (actual software and the hardware are in the cloud service side).

  • your understanding is most accurate sir, much better than the morons in the video

  • Privacy:

But who is going to guarantee my privacy while I am using this cloud?

    Economic:

Yes, you will save money by " you pay when you need". When there is no retail software at all, and the cloud server is the only play that you can use software, DOMINATION will come into play. It won't be save money for you. Just like today's OIL price.

  • many other things. I don't like this idea. It change the internet from a net systeminto an ant system. Net system is connecting point to point, we are individuals but just connected. Ant system is not connecting but serving the queen, we all work for one queen.

  • Of course, leave it to a woman to explain the concept succinctly without repeating the word "cloud" in the explanation of "cloud computing." Go Maggie!

  • I got a bit angry watching this. I'v been trying to figure out what CC is now for quite a while and this video demonstrates that even the so-called "experts" don't have a fu*ing clue what they are talking about. I guess CC is what you say it is. Untill someone says otherwise; CC is a webhotel with massive bandwidth running their (mixed platforms) machines in clusters so you can scale up/down as needed

  • ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT....

WANT TO CONTROL ALL OF US,.. in one fucking Computer!!

  • I ve got to say one word AUDIO AUDIO AUDIO get your audio right!!!

  • Sounds kind of like the dummy client/main frame model from the 60s.

  • Cloud computing = handing over all your data and independence to a server based somewhere you will never be allowed to enter. There's nothing wrong with having an offline computing domain that you control.

  • Old model:

    1) Buy software once. Install on your PC.

    2) Store your files/data on your PC for free.

    Cloud model:

    1) Pay for internet connection.

    2) 'Rent' software from cloud provider as you use it and you *must* be connected to the internet.

    3) Pay to store *your* files/data on *cloud providers* disk drive.

  • Sound like the difference is who you pay and how often you pay them. I can see providers raising fees, adding new fees, etc. 'Cloud computing' has some pluses but it will grow distinct minuses as you lose your independence and the providers succumb to greed.

I can use software that I have purchased once *forever*. I can store my files safely on my computer for *free*. I don't need a constant internet connection to get to my data.

Cloud computing = More cost, more vulnerability.

  • Cloud computing reduces the upfront fee and short term cost. Good for the consumer in the short term. But in the long term, once they have alot of control. They will up the price and give limited services.

  • Sorry, I still didn't get what is CLOUD COMPUTING from this video.

Is that a net (internet) based public data/software service/center? Or it is using someone else hardware to do your work?

Who is going to guarantee the data's security, software's copy right, and personal's privacy?

  • haha I so agree, haven't a fecking clue still it's ridonkulous.

  • Cloud Computing another way of them having you by the balls! Reject it my friends there is NOTHING wrong with the desktop! Why in hell would you want to keep your files / work on a server somewhere?

  • LOL

  • so i could be playing a high spec game on high spec settings just from a terminal at home?

  • Not yet since the amount of data being sent and received would be so great that a standard home internet connection wouldn't handle it. It could be something that can be done with more advancements in technology though.

  • Matt Mullenweg said it right: "its more about the ability for developers not to worry about things"

Or in technical terms: just another layer of abstraction

  • Why don't they just call it "net computing", why have to make up a different word when refering to the internet?? The internet is not a cloud, its just the internet. Hate it when these fags feel the need to gay up my computer experience. No offense to the gay community, but you know what I mean.

  • So all we learned from this useless clip is that cloud computing is another form of ultra-super-abstraction bubble that does magic. The future of IT would be as following:

    - There is a problem

    - You sit in front of your computer and say: "solve it."

    - BAM! The clarion of resolution appears before your eyes.

    I can't stand philosophical jargon.

  • Its the time where u wont need software or hardware... u just need to a connection to the web..?? LMAO but u need a hardware dats capable of running A software to go to the net.. stupid theory.... even if its just a screen u still have the hardware...

  • Boy, things must be slow at the old think tank these days. Let's come up with a buzz word and try to figure out what it can be used for. Who will be the first to come out with a "Clouding Certification". It's right up there with the CISSP cert, yet another hog wash certification. The worst part is that the government falls for this junk hook line and sinker. I know, nothing strange there.

  • Too many buzz words come out every few month, nobody really bothers to explain and define clearly what it is. Does it just try to sound different and important, or try to confuse people?

  • LOL... this is ridiuculous... wha a useless buzz

Jay Cross sounds drunk as hell... hahah

  • technology is evolving at an exponential rate... soon it will take over....

  • Well they know, pretty sure! :)
