MId range shots are one of the best shots in the game, because it has a lot of advantages compare to layups and threes. You don't need to go far away from the basket to make it, and you don't need to go down to the post and take a risk of being kicked or injured by a big and heavy players. Like Sam said it... Just create a little space and take it. When you make it close to perfection, you'll be very tough player to handle.
