Awesome! I love this! I have an MC909 and 303, with manuals. Haven't really figured out how to use them yet. Just wanted to tinker with them. I would love to learn to play them properly!
great work man! I enjoyed this, it seemed so abstract the way you were building all the notes together, but then it all kicked off in my face and i chundered. NICEONE.
Made me shiver because Squarepusher is probably my favourite artist with Aphex Twin, and this is pretty good. BTW your video and the Black College Football game is HILARIOUS.
Good point. I forgot it had a noise generator on it. It's a shame they're marked up so high due to the similarity to the TB-303s, otherwise I'd grab one.
you can get them sometimes for $550 which I think is pretty decent considering 303's sell for $1500 sometimes. the 202 sounds great too and is really quirky so it brings a lot to the table, not expensive for what it offers I think.
but the 2 sound sooooooo different. I've got them side by side and they are night and day. the 202 is much more dynamic, if I had to choose one or the other I'd definitely go 202
I'd like to know what you mean by "there." Being good at covering techno licks? Covering this one in particular? Why would I "keep it up"? There is no reason to keep practicing copying other peoples sequences, so I have no idea what you mean here.
What I meant was: Its almost the right melody, but you've got some notes wrong. If you listen to the track a couple of times you'll nail the whole melody.
It was meant as a positive reaction, but somehow it seems like you see it as "not so positive".
And yes, there is a reason to try copying your favorite music, because it gives you more insight in how tracks are made and why those tunes are good. Most good musicians start of covering known music and grow up to become a good musician themselves.
@HeresJamesPrice haha, yeah, just keep it up so you can "nail 'm!"...if that's what you want to do... i guess... It sounds beautifully euphoric to me. I don't think you need to "nail" anyone.
hahaha.. what i think i ment was "i have no clue on how you make that machine sing like that, but if i tell you that i will feel little inside, so i say it´s only ok.."
your programming rock.. you know there is a programming application for it right? mc202 hack
@HeresJamesPrice too right, you caught the spirit of the tune perfectly, obviously with a few tweaks you could get it pretty much identical, but that would be a step too nerdy.
@HeresJamesPrice In a related note, We are at the age where techno covers should be done. I would pay for that since I live in the US and no one tours over here worth a shit anymore. In fact Squarepusher cancelled a show that I was attending in Orlando, it was very saddening to not see him.

Get MC-202 Hack. The faster way to programme a 202

Tell me more about this please, just bought a mc-202 :)

Google for MC202 Hack! It's a java-tool to transform a MIDI-file into a MC202 sequence. It's cheap and works well.

squarepusher most likely played this on an sh-101 as it's one of his main synths
johnisfaster 2 years ago
Most likely, but they are identical on the inside.
thedefog 2 years ago
but the 101 has a noise source and more modulation shapes, of course this sound doesn't make use of those but I'm just sayin it was probably a 101

I think $550 is a bit pricey for what they are still though. But that is still cheaper and easier than building a X0XB0X

the original was done on a 101, it's what he did all those bits on around that time, love both though :)
can't beat the old roland stuff eh :)
