@midas61 So why would the riders maintain the 10 second gap throughout the race? Faster riders catch and pass slower riders. After a few laps the bikes bunch up especially if one rider's bike is only slightly faster and it is difficult to pass on the straights. You certainly do see them bunched up like that after lap 2 and pitstops. If bike 1 is 10 sec slower a lap than bike 2 and bike 3 is 20 sec faster than bike 1 then as they pass the pits at the end of lap 1 there will be 3 bikes together.
