Bartending - How to Pour Liquor

"equivilate" is not a word. The shot glass on the bar is a 2 ounce glass. The posi-pour stops at ONE ounce. The double shot is a very large serving, probably roughly 4 ounces. This pour is illegal in several jurisdictions in North America. How much was left from his "perfect pour" after he transferred it from the tin to the shot glass? Likely more, as the shot glass was overflowing when he stopped. The one thing this guy did right is the way he was holding the bottlle.

why wouldnt you want to know how much exactly you were drinking? it allows a customer to count drinks better so that they can possibly drive home. it also saves a bar a lot because they can count stocktake a lot easier rather than having to just accept huge variances in your stock. jiggers (or measuring cups as he put it) are very helpful in that you can make very similar drinks over and over again. free pouring should jsut be used for flair bartending.

i've commented before, but watched this again, and my god is this guy shit. 'the speed of your counting isn't really that important....." bullshit! you're counts must always be the same tempo/speed. his double shot pour is a massive over pour, hence them turning to a different camera angle. again, waht a fucking joke.

count to 4 for 2 oz? is he an idiot? how do you pour quarters? plus, he messed up his pour, he clearly cuts the pour from the tin as it begins to overflow the shot glass.

this guy is an absolute tool. you should only be free pouring if you're busy and have to use your hands for different things. measures are almost always more accurate, and any cocktail specs will be designed with the exact amounts in mind. plus he can't freepour. do monkeyseevideos find their experts at bus stops?

horrible bottle pouring technique, horrible counting.

a standard 4 count is 1 ounce, allowing you to pour 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, etc.

amateur bartending isn't using jiggers, it's pretending you know how to pour when you really don't.

ever bartend at a country club or a classy place? people there are picky, and getting proportions even slightly wrong will result in the customer sending the drink back, increasing liquor cost. speedpouring base liquors is fine since they impart little flavor, but for liqueurs where you're only adding half an ounce or less, speedpouring is highly inaccurate and will mess up the drink. "looking" like you know what you're doing isn't as important as making the drink accurately in some bars

Using a measuring cup is not so much about whether you know how to pour right or not. Often times, the bar will want their bartenders to use a cup to help limit overpouring (because not everyone's count is exactly the same) and control liquor costs. Also if their are multiple bartenders it ensures that drinks taste consistent no matter who's making it.
