Ken you gotta help me out. My family is telling me that bjj doesn't work and that it does not help anything for self defense only competition fighting. How effective is BJJ really for self defense in your experience??!!

@masterchief9064 There is a difference between sports jiu-jitsu and self defense based jiu-jitsu. There are plenty of technqiues that can translate into the street application, but the most important thing to remember during a street fight scenario would be the controlling of space not to allow your opponent to be able to punch with full force. You will get hit in a fight! The object is to keep the force of the strike low and conservation of energy during the confrontation. practice...
@Galleon1235 well statistically speaking 95% of all physical confrontations wind up on the ground. While in the event of gun or knife being drawn then yes BJJ, won't be that effect but there are some good take downs and blocks to incorporate.
