One point about the brain size issue- I was recently watching a documentary on this topic and it was pointed out that the evolution of intelligence is closely correlative to the size of the frontal lobe (the "visual" functions). So overall brain size to body size ratios are important, but in the case of Neanderthals, their frontal lobe ratio was smaller than Homo Sapiens. Also- I tend to agree that they did not die out, they were "bred out" so to speak.
@CrossFitEXcellence I have heard this also and that this is why homo florencese. the so called hobbit, was far smarter than a chimp. Their brains were the same size, but their frontal lobes appear to be much more developed (based on the number of folds evident from a few endocasts.)
@zwiiyt yeah to basically assent ot blackacidlizzard, outside socialist central planning and a push for egalitarianism, the characteristics of the races are perhaps interesting but of little practical use. They only rease you would need to find answers to those questions would be to alter race wide government policy. Since I´m against states and there absurdly broad social programs I see it as acedemic more than practical.
I'm reading a book called The 10,000 Year Explosion that goes into this. The argument is that some beneficial genes from the neanderthal spread throughout the human population, which contributed to agriculture. Near the tropics the largest limiting factor on the human population is disease, meaning it's beneficial to have many children and invest less in them. Further north the largest limiting factor becomes food, so we had fewer children and had to organize to produce more (agriculture).
@reapfreak there is evidence in archeology in a revoution in technology within Neanderthal society around 30k bc, that ruffly corrisponds with impact with homo sapiens. This was iterpreted as imitation, but one wonders if it was a deeper, genetic, mixing. Indeed there was another revolution, perhaps evidencing a radical mental change, at the end of the neanderthal erra, which was before seen as purely cultural, but also my be a result of the mixing
Greater intelligence is not necessarily an advantage.
The current dysgenic culture in most of the world is only one of many ways in which lower intelligence can make one (individual or group) more survivable
@blackacidlizzard it also requires alot of extra energy and in the case of humans, premature births and elongated childhoods. Also I do not suggest that higher intelegence is normative or moral. And besides even people with various degrees of intelegence (or any other trait for that matter) benifit from voluntary transactions.

Of course, but reciprocity is dependent on many factors, including the total mental state of the participants.
