it's cool to see you picking it up, and thinking about it deeper to ask questions. TBH, I assumed it was 7/4 too. When 6/8 changes to a time that is 7 beats, it normally goes to 7/4. In the case of this song, it's all 8ths. If you notice, the song has an 8/8 section around 2:13. Most people would think 4/4 or 4/8. But the drums give it away. The phrasing would be off if it was in 4's. Lastly, the outro is 7/8 and the bass notes on the guitar hits to 7/8 like before. Cool huh? 6-7-8-7 throughout.
@xxAsteriskxx you kno, ive been a freeformer for over 14 yrs and have never had anyone produce a time i couldnt jam to(ive had no problems ever losing time), but i couldnt tell you the time signature of anything i write! hahaha ive just never learned it?!?!? is it difficult to learn from a book?
At the beginning (0:00 - 0:58) is in 6/8 time. 6/8 means that the music has 6 beats comprising of 8th notes (6/8). So at the end of each measure, you would count up to 6, each number an 8th note. Time signature isn't about counting, and more about beats and pulse, which what distinguishes 6/8 from 3/4, but that's a different topic.
If you listen to 0:58 - 1:11, that's 7/8. The end of each measure you'd count up to 7.
@xxAsteriskxx Thanks! I think I get the basics of it, and I've had a hard time understanding this earlirer. A question though: why isn't it 7/4 during 0:58 - 1:11 ? The section is played slower so isn't that part composed of fourth notes?

@henricryden I'll break it down as best I can.

Listen to find the crosses. :)
