  • Great video! Been playing piano for fifteen years now (VERY leisurely, I'm only Grade 8) and I never knew there was an actual technique to playing an Alberti bassline!

I think I best start from the beginning of your videos =)

  • lypur you are just fantastic , i'm learning lots

  • at 7minutes -

im totally repeating that mistake :D

    Lypur you are great,

    big thank you

  • hey there! :D

can i have a copy of your music sheets?

please im a beginner in playing piano, but i am a fast learner. and i want to learn by my self. can i have a copy of your music sheets?? please.. thanks :D

  • good idea to show how to play the aberti bass, but didnt think it needed to be 20 mins long.....

your narration = annoying as shit.... and laughing at your own jokes..... yea HA not funny

  • this guy is great! :D

  • Why would you say that about him? Isn't he doing something that is free, you moron!

  • @headsupkid01 ur a fag

  • what do all those dots with sticks coming out of them mean

  • :O..Alberti bass pattern is also in Mozarts Piano sonata No. 16!!! :D

  • mozart uses them nearly everwhere

  • and also in Symphony No.40 in Gminor

  • You are lovely.

  • You are actually not allowed to wobble your hand from left to right: all hand&fingers should be slightly above the keys and only the playing finger is allowed to drop onto the key, the rest of them should be kept above. But I am not here to criticise, I think what you are doing is fantastic.

  • Are you American? You've got a really strong American accent.

    Are you teaching private?

All the chords you are explaining are in the 'Alfred's basic adult piano course' which i normally do for adults beginners.

  • You are making me dizzyyyyy :P GREAT POST!! awesome! i hope lots of people are donating money to you! :D because you deserves it

  • thanks ^_^ dizzy? why?

Glad you liked it! Umm, not too many people, maybe one donation every 1-2 months

  • Dizzy, because you are doing thinks with the camera, nobody would belive, ;)

1-2 months!, that is not much :(

  • You're doing a great job. Excellent explanation.

Thank you sincerely for sharing your great talent and knowledge.

  • thanks! I'm glad to help!

  • hi I am almost grade 6 level pianist, and I'm trying to learn Bach's prelude 6 from book 2 of Clavier book. Bwv 675 is it's call number. Any tips to make the song easier? I find it really difficult. =) thanks if you are able to help.

  • lots of separate hand practise, try playing each voice individually, use the metronome at a slow speed. You can also use a high lighter to high light the melody ^_^

  • great teaching andrew. thank you.

  • you're welcome! and thanks ^_^

  • Thanks Sam! ^_^ I was wondering I've got a legal question here, and i was wondering if maybe I could talk with you on the phone and ask your opinion about some stuff. Would you be cool with that?

  • I wonder if he got married haha your a musician and a comedian, awesome!!!

  • Until I saw your video's, I felt it was a total waste of time for someone my age to attempt to learn to play because it is a difficult and long term commitment. However, you changed my mind and inspired me to rethink everything. I just wanted to thank you for giving me the courage to embark on a journey to fulfill a life long dream.

  • wow!!!....that comment blew me away! I"m not really sure what to say! I'm very honored i made such an impact in your life! if you were the only one who ever saw my lessons and it made that much of an impact, all the effort would STILL be worth it :) I'm honored you believe I have such a gift as a teacher! ^_^ thank you very very much I hope I can continue helping you in the future

  • Andrew, you have an extraordinary gift as a teacher that's truly inspirational. I just recently retired and I have been thinking about attempting to learn to play the piano for the first time in my life. I have spent most of my career as a "left brain" thinker, but music has always been an important part of my life. I always loved the jazz pianist by listening to the greats such as; Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, Dave Grusin, Taylor Eigsti and many others.

  • Andrew,

I'm going to post this comment in several sections due to the character limit.

I ran across your first video about a month ago and your teaching style immediately caught my attention. I was watching the video and your enthusiasm was so contagious that I have now watched all of your "how to play piano series" as well as your other video's. Please note, I don't play piano and I don't have one available to me at this time.

  • It was named after Domenico Alberti (1710-1740).

Alberti bass is usually found in the left hand of pieces for keyboard instruments, especially for Mozart's Piano Pieces.

I thoroughly enjoyed this lesson. New and fun.

  • beer taste mighty tasty! YEAH!! XD

  • Oh! I did that before, but I didn't know that it had a name. Thanks for the lesson!

  • Your welcome! I hope you learned alittle bit more about it than just the name otherwise that might be 20 mins wasted!

  • Time spent with you is never wasted! But, yes, I did learn more than just the name... I have a better understanding now of the overall process.

  • that's great! ^_^ i'm happy to hear that

  • Ha, ha, ha... Beer really does taste mighty tasty!

  • lol, beer tastes mighty tasty ;) I actually made that saying up just a few minutes before i shot the video.

  • Sweet! I can't watch now, so I'll have to come back. I'm so excited about this lesson. I know it will be helpful.

  • very nice lesson thank you

  • You're very welcome!

  • XD Well I might be the next Alberti because I love this bass line. It's simple and amazing. Now does an Alberti Bass have to be played in a certain area or can you move it around as you desire? Because sometimes I'll use it with octaves. Something like C, C (8va), E, C (8va), C. I had to ask because I didn't hear anything about it in the video and so I wanted to take this opportunity to ask. And Tennis is fun! XD I haven't played that for a long time.

  • Domino...Im sorry...I just laughed so much.

    Anyway, hows it goin?*

    *Why would I ask that!?

  • lol shush! Ah! it's "Domenico" I knew it was something out of the ordinary! It's going pretty good ^_^

  • Rofl! I watched the rest of the video, and I noticed afew other ones...but ill leave it there.

Anyway! This is a great video, thankyou!

  • Yeah, now Im gona' go get some food and have some fun for about 20min ;) hehe =)

  • Thomas! You should make a habit of commenting after you've seen the video after all that's way you can comment on what was in the video! hahah you're such a crazy guy aren't you ^_^

  • Hehe =) Nah, not so crazy =) But I have commented so much before, and you already know what I think and like about about your lessons so.. =) So it was just to express that I was happy about a new lesson...

AND its a cool lesson, Ill try to use it in my next composition if I manage to fit it in =) Im working on a bigger piece in B-major =)

  • ^_^ awesome!!!! :D I'm excited to see that in a new composition!

  • you're doing a phenomenal job at teaching. thanks again so much!!

  • thank you very much ^_^

  • I wonder, how your surname is pronounced?

  • it sounds like fur-man-zIck
