@Dab11082 here in the UK it is optional, & some company provided cars have them, it will reduce your insurance costs if you choose to have one installed like having an alarm anti theft electronics. it has a memory of several hours, if an accident occurs then it can be used to prove your innocence and prevent people from claiming for injuries which were impossible to ever sustain. e.g. an impact at 8mph wouldn't cause whiplash or mental trauma
