Also, I'd add- I read Obama's book 'Dreams of my Father,' which was published shortly after his first major speech at the DNC. It was an autobiography, but also an intelligent analysis of the state and history of this country. What it revealed was a thoughtful man who seemed to really care about doing the right thing- and who had questioned and struggled with himself. Someone who'd worked hard to get where he was, but wasn't self aggrandizing. A good man. Someone who reflected my generation.

Also, I'd add- I read Obama's book 'Dreams of my Father,' which was published shortly after his first major speech at the DNC. It was an autobiography, but also an intelligent analysis of the state and history of this country. What it revealed was a thoughtful man who seemed to really care about doing the right thing- and who had questioned and struggled with himself. Someone who'd worked hard to get where he was, but wasn't self aggrandizing. A good man. Someone who reflected my generation.

And he's a symbol of change- he's a symbol of the fact that our nation has changed from a time when race and gender would have created a glass ceiling- to a time when a black man ran neck and neck with a woman for a major party nomination- then won the presidency. by listening to franti's other songs, it just seems odd to me that he would write a song glorifying someone of this nature. he is also an outspoken supporter for a wide spectrum of peace and social justice issues. which obama has acted against already in just under four months in office.

i don't think franti's music is at all offensive. but i do think his music states an opinion...that could possibly offend SOME people. which in your own words should not be expressed because it may offend some. and i never spoke of obama as hitler...i said he was no different than bush. i compared YOU to hitler for trying to suppress my thoughts because they differed from your own. i already stated my reasons for not trusting obama. his lying, his double speak, his bullshit political rhetoric.

it's so sickening to me that even people, like franti who should have some understanding of the way things work, have said things like: 'well, at least he's not bush' or 'at least it's great to see such a new spirit of hope'. no, guys, he's not bush - he's far more dangerous. because he can actually string a sentence together and his followers are plenty. and what is the use of a spirit of 'hope' if it's based on a lie?

how do you guys feel about obama and the pentagon have sending as many as 30,000 additional troops to afghanistan? what about the american drone attacks on the border between afghanistan and pakistan on the 4th that killed 13 people?

are you assuming that our government should never kill a person? certain people need killing, and in the search of those people, collateral damage is inevitable. i agree, that far too many civilians and innocents are killed, however, getting worked up over 13 dead is a little extreme. and as far as troops in afghanistan, there's decent evidence suggesting huge terrorist infrastructure there, so its not necessarily a bad thing. Iraq though, what a fucking joke and mistake...

Very true, I don't listen to much Frantis, and so i'm sure i will get thummed down plenty of times by people here. I'm not saying they don't matter because they're in a far off land. I'm just saying its ludicrous to claim that we shouldn't do anything if there's a chance of innocent people dying. we wouldn't be a fucking country if we thought that. and i know someone will misconstrue my comment as me promoting the death of civilians, but that's certainly not my point.

I like this song. It's very catchy, and it convey's a feeling of hope and celebration very effectively.
We are making a mistake when we trust Obama. Hope is wonderful, but Obama's a total puppet for the banking oligarchy. Just like the eight presidents before him. I only wish righteous and beautiful music like this reflected reality as well as it reflects the hope we're all starving for.
