This is one of Steve Chapin's masterpieces, he does write the most beautiful songs. The Steve Chapin Band performed last nite in Phoenixville PA, and play tomorrow nite 10.16.11 at The Tarrytown Music Hall, in Tarrytown NY.
Bethlehem PA on 12.10.11, Boca Grande FL 2.6.11. He also plays @The Ovens Natural Park, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia July 1st thru Sept. every year. The Steve Chapin Band is the original Harry Chapin Band, Steve Chapin, 'Big' John Wallace, Howard Fields.
I saw Steve about 3 years ago in Cedarburg Wisconsin. The show was a tribute to Harry and his songs. Tom Chapin was there, along with Big John Wallace, and The Chapin Sisters. A very enjoyable evening.
Hey Steve what a treat to hear "Let Time Go Lightly" I can never forget the night in Phoenix after the Celebrity Theater show when you climbed that chain linked fence topped with barb wire to retrieve the Frisbee before that big guard dog could sink his teeth in you!..One of the most courageous feats I've ever witnessed. I sent you Living In This Song in a video response. The song is dedicated to everyone who was changed by the life and music of Harry Chapin..Keep The Change
This sweet song brings back tender moments with my college sweetheart Allyson at Mt. Allison University in 1980. We listened to Harry Chapin for hours on end without a care in the world. Good times!
Thankyou for the post. I love Harry he is my hero! truly! He advocated so much for the homeless and was their voice! What a role model. The best entertainer to me. I have been a fan for so long now, and my two boys (7) know his music. Keep his music going!
honestly, I had only heard 2 or 3 of his songs and I was apprehensive to buy his greatest hits album, but I never made a better buy. It hasn't left my cd player. What a great musician.
Thanks for sharing this. I had forgotten about this tune, but it brings back fond memories of Harry's concerts. I didn't realize this made it on to an album. Anybody remember Tom Chapin's Saturday morning TV show ? Was it Make a Wish?
I do remember Make a Wish . . . sing a song. . la la la. No idea how the rest goes but remember Tom with his guitar wearing a denim cap. (Tom was wearing it, not the guitar)
I saw a DVD playing of Harry singing in concert a few years ago, but I still haven't found that particular DVD anywhere. I've looked under bed matresses and my neighbor's couches and stuff like that but I do wish that some big shot music producer from Nashville would just realize...Some of folks out here still enjoy Harry's music..! Ok?
Actually, Harry Chapin's brother Steve is the one who sang and wrote this song. Apparently it was a favorite of Harry's, so he let Steve sing it at his live shows (and decided to include it on his album) ....Same with Tom Chapin's song titled "Saturday Morning" (both songs appear on Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories Live album).
I want to college with Tom at Plattsburgh State, in New York, and many times Harry and Steve would come to visit. I can remember the 3 of them jamming in the student lounge, Little did I know that I was hearing something so sprcial back in 1965. It is just wonderful that they all made it so far in the music business. The "OLD FRIENDS" line in this song is just so true!!!

Harry was, and still is one of my favorites. He could be serious or silly and it was great!
