  • so let me get this right #1 ns can't operate conrail equipment, #2 ns shut down the second unit to conserve fuel, wile it add an extra 385.000lbs of weight from a dead engine with no power. now that is smart. NOFOLKEN WAYPAL EXPRESS

  • well wouldn't a train starting from a stop be normal circumstances 2 use both units?...of course it would!

  • Norfolk Southern is famous for being cheap not only with their employees but with equipment 2nd unit was shut down for fuel conservation i'm sure & also i'm sure the crew only had permission 2 crank it 2 get the train moving after that Norfolk Southern brass probly passed the orders down to the crew to shut it down again it's good to save $ wherever u can but NS takes it 2 far..CHEAP BUMS!

  • @sombreroman08 its not cheap. on normal circumstances you wouldn't need both.

  • @sombreroman08 It's all about giving the investors the biggest dividen back for the money they put in.

  • I think i can i think i can nope Houston We've got a problem

  • new traction motors anyone??

  • Good video! I can only imagine the conversation in the cab AFTER the train got started again... 'Dang it Bill, I thought you turned the other loco on BEFORE we got started! Phil... I thought you turned it on... you know my hearing aid is about shot and I can't tell if the engine is running or not... besides, I was just trying to save a little money on fuel. You know how much it costs to fill this baby up...!?!?!"

  • fascinating! Wonderful film.

  • Looks to me that No.2 unit was offline,

after the power down you can see that unit smoke up,

    then they moved, lol.

  • It's surprising how SD40-2s can hold up on a grade. I knew an engineer took a train with two ex BN SD40-2s up a 1.25 percent grade and held at 6 mph the whole way.

  • @NSAaron Really how did it sound?

  • @train2589 i wasn't there, i heard it from an engineer lol. i'm pretty sure it would have been worth alot to hear it.

  • Whats the grade here?

  • so much for conrail quality lol

  • NS Quality, that is. Remember that NS and CSX got all of Conrails Assets in 1999

  • Nice video!, It looks like it was pulling just empty cars.

  • lol

  • As much as I hate to stall, it sure beats getting a knuckle. Nice power and great video!

  • you are standing about where that old beatup wabash e unit used to sit, I spent an hour there one day going all over that thing before they removed it.

  • Sweet!
