That train's been around a while. I rode it from New Orleans, LA to Annapolis, MD around 1955, and my dad rode it all the way from New Orleans to Penn Station in New York, NY in the 1920s.
@phillippibeard actually thats not entirely accurate. todays train is a mix between the Southerner and The Crescent. they were two seperate trains til the mid 70s when Southern wanted to shed its passenger service.
The dining car IS a Heritage Dining Car, but I do miss the old Heritage Coaches that the Amtrak Crescent used to have in their consist, they were nice cars.
Yeah, that horn was a hybrid K5LA, but never the less, it's still a K5LA, but I like the original K5LA horn on the Crescent train though, I'm more familiar with that horn.
The name of the train is the Crescent, not the Southern Crescent. It was known as the Southern Crescent only for a few years back in the seventies, back when it was operated by the Southern Railway. Amtrak took the train over on February 1, 1979 and renamed it the Crescent.
Recent video- consist has no ex-10-6 conv. into a "square dance" dorm car aft the bagg car, now out of service. Don't think the diner is a Southern car because it does not have the side number panels on the fluting on either end where the road number was located. I witnessed this train in the 1970s and early '80s as a Clemson U. railfan. I'm a sleeper attendent on the Cap. Ltd. between D.C. and Chicago. Prior, I was the station manager for the AEE in D.C.
Speaking of this train, is the 3rd car in this train(after its baggage car) a Heritage car? It sure looks like one, and its interesting to see some of those cars are likely still in use, despite supposedly hearing talk that all those cars were about to be retired from Amtrak....

ViagraMan2Us's response that it's a dining car is probably correct, if it was a Heritage car. It's my understanding that the Heritage equipment had to be taken out of service because the bathrooms emptied onto the track, which is now illegal. However, that wouldn't be a problem with a dining car, presumably.

Cool video. The train seems to be making pretty good speed through the area. The sound is great too.
