you actually travel faster on the diagonal sections because since you can go 8 m/s on any cardinal axis, the net vector when travelling on tracks like this is 11.3 m/s

@faithm Actually, because minecarts travel at 8 m/s PER axis, combining x and y axises makes for ~11 m/s travel.
