Only a handful are actually satanic, most just use the imagery for shock and to show hatred towards religions opposed to "devil worshipping". Some also often use it as symbolism for freedom as many feel satanism is about freedom, though that part would be more of an opinion based use. Atleast in my eyes.

I was lucky enough to catch the Gaahl-fronted Gorgoroth and I have to say, actually being there IS quite unsettling. I find most of black metal's image to be just hilariously lame, but I think he really captured what it was supposed to be like.

Of course, I've since seen a bunch of interviews with him which make him seem a lot less intimidating (basically ever since he got laid), but I have a good amount of respect for him - especially now that he's abandoned this black metal lark for good.
