  • @ShroomMasta2009 your dumb.

  • @benjavari :S

  • @Xareal lol

  • Johnny Cash. Not only the most influential and the best, but also the coolest country artist ever.

  • bra :-)

  • Best version by a mile..

  • John Frusciante plays guitar on this

  • One guy clicked the wrong thumb.

  • Damn, I really wish I could've seen him perform. I absolutely love his music. "Hurt" is my favorite.

  • ""Personal Jesus" is Depeche Mode's 23rd UK single, released on August 29, 1989, and the first single from the album Violator. Since then, the title song has been covered by numerous artists including Marilyn Manson, Jerry Williams, G&G, Lollipop Lust Kill and Johnny Cash.

In 2004, "Personal Jesus" was ranked #368 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time,[3] and in September 2006 it was voted as one of the "100 Greatest Songs Ever" in Q magazine."

  • @bubcay Right of wikipedia

  • Johnny rules

  • Haven't heard this in awhile. Who'da thunk Johnny was into Depeche? Sweet, sweet stuff. Thanks for posting!

  • Me encanta esta version, mejor que manson y que los propios creadores :DDDDDDD

  • used this music on my movie exams if you got a minute take a look and leave some tips or opninions please (the more views the higher grade I get)

  • LOL to those that believe it`s DM original. ROLF....

  • @gulamrasool66 please tell me you're under 20 yrs of age...then i will forgive you lol

  • @gulamrasool66 Sorry to disappoint you, but Personal Jesus is a song by Depeche Mode from their 1990 album Violator. Johnny Cash covered it in 2002. Check on Wikipedia.

The only poor ignorant here is you! :D

  • lol

  • The original is Depeche Mode.

Martin Gore is the writer both melody and lyrics.

  • No,Depeche Mode is not the original..and even if it was Cash's is better!

  • @sonofJurell You're wrong dude, Depeche Mode's is the original version. It's written by Martin Gore.

You're correct about Johnny Cash's version being better than DM's though. This is, without doubt, the definitive version of this song.

  • @sonofJurell Depeche Mode did the original. Check on Wikipedia.

  • nobody ever mentions john frusciante on this one....frusciante and cash doing depeche...i can die now.

  • i prefer depench mode version , but this rocks ..

  • @nikosakellaris marylin mansons better

  • @kyrinky marylin mansons is just a piece of shit .... he is just and idiot and the only thing that his is doing is to wear strange clothes .. ok i just hate his .. although you like him so , my opinion is nothing to you and i accept that :D

  • cool

  • it's called just "personal jesus", no "your own" on the title.

    anyway, it's a great song!.

  • I'm not religious, but i have a personal jesus for sure.

  • @joshiehanson same here, not relegious but my personal jesus is Johnny Cash...

  • Waaane person don't like this song... - God bless you!

  • very good.

  • john frusciante killed that shit

  • Truly, John's last recorded tune (doesn't seem adequate, the word "tune"as I look at it ) . There is so much more to it, a fitting statement, a moving cover of a powerful original that actually has been great(my opinion only) each & every time. No matter the artist. The SONG is that unique....& TIMELESS.....R.I.P. Johnny, sure do miss you & your music.. Thanks for posting video.......

  • For a man of his era and his music, to take a song like this from the 80's and turn it into something else entirely... I am a believer Mr Cash. I am.

  • it's a cover yes, but it is perfected into something more, something better, something only the man in black could do. His last song/message before he died. R.I.P. Johnny Cash

  • R.I.P. the one and only man in black......

  • A cover song that spans many generations and is deep with the context of Cash's life of faith and difficulties with substance abuse. Awesome.

  • What a legend ! RIP JC

  • this is not hes song its a cover my friend....

  • this is a great version of this song!

  • THE MAN

  • i think its the coolest version

  • @84HGabor Marilyn Mansons version is pretty damn good as well

  • pretty honking. digging it.

  • Never knew that Johnny Cash did a cover of this one. He did a great job with pulling it off. I love this version as much as the original.

  • I love this song, especially this version. Some songs sound better acoustic.

  • Absolute fact - This song was written by Martin Gore of Depeche Mode and it is based on Elvis Presley and his relationship with Priscilla Presley. Elvis lived his life with Priscilla kind of believing he was her Jesus, if you know the story of tthe truth it kind of makes sense

  • Its a hard choice between the beatles let it be, this or johny cashes hurt for my favourite song

  • It's a wicked rainy Monday and I'm in the mood for some Johnny Cash.

    "Reach out and touch faith"

  • It's a wicked rainy Monday and I'm in the mood for some Johnny Cash.

    "Reach out and touch faith"

  • Very acceptable cover.

  • -facepalm- DONT ARGUE ABOUT RELIGION ON A BLOODY SONG!!

  • What if I know that what you believe will be to your ruin? Do I sit idly by, or share truth? Here is what Jesus said of himself:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, & the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

John 6:35 And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, & he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

  • I bet you really believe that! You fool!

  • @rockman12550 Johnny Cash believed it too.

He also made it his life's work and ministry to proffess it every chance he got.

Are you also calling Johnny Cash a fool?

  • OK, you like potato salad, I like cole slaw and think anybody who doesn't like cole slaw is crazy.

I love Johnny Cash (and June and Roseanne), and respect his committment to his beliefs. But I never saw him browbeat others to accept his beliefs.

Why don't you honor his memory by following his example?

  • @rockman12550

No one is browbeating anyone but you stinking stupid atheists - look at your first post to me hypocrite.

  • @lastdaysguitar : Religion is for people, who can't see the real facts of life without breaking into tears. You have to believe in something, to overcome this world. There is no purpose with life, so deal with it!! "The words of God stands in the bible" bla, bla, bla.. And since God is all-knowing and got the eternal wisdom and everything: Why did they write the 2. Testamente? Because, God is all-knowing, right? - Btw. Johnny Cash rocks!!

  • It's amazing how atheists spew swear words when Lord Jesus is mentioned.

And it's sad too, they don't even realize even THEN what puppets of Satan they are.

  • @lastdaysguitar I believe on the internet, one states 'Lol' when seeing something as silly as that which you have written. You're quite demented.

  • @tobyluke1 Matthew 5:10-12 (King James Version) 10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

  • @lastdaysguitar knobcheese american, unenlighted fool. Peasant of the modern age.

  • @tobyluke1

    That's all ya got?

  • @tobyluke1 Seriously, if that's the best you can do - you must have a very sad life.

  • @lastdaysguitar Why would the quality of one's retorts reflect on their quality of life? It's that level of brain power that's got you where you are today. Why are you so angry and aggresive? I think you'd find Jesus would behave very differently!

  • fuck you- i said it could actually be about beliving in jesus, i just added an aethiest/agnostic view that it talks about somebody you can belive in- think before you type

  • @franticey - you live in a world that only exists inside your demented head, your destiny is hell outside of the salvation of Jesus Christ.

Johnny Cash was a servant of God's kingdom, and brother in Christ Jesus.

You are just another trashed and deluded pawn/puppet of Satan.

Better find out about Jesus: the ONE ALONE who is worthy to believe in.

    Turn before you burn.

  • look man- i dont want to argue with you over religion- you belive what you belive and ill belive what i want to- i actually havnt said christianity is wrong have i? have just stated a different veiw of things - you could have picked an argument with someone else who is more pesistant and tells you your spouting crap. oh and i think i have enought time to turn before i burn as i am 14, 15 on the 14th of march

  • @franticey That is good to hear, I have a son your age, but I'm not speaking about religion (which is man-made) I'm speaking of the very real, living God: Jesus Christ.

He is the ONE Johnny Cash is singing about: Johnny's life & testimony do make that point irrefutable.

Thinking you "have enough time" is a very common lie planted in minds directly from Satan young man... yet, your life (as anyone's) could end even today.

As you could be wrong: The time to get serious about Jesus is NOW.

  • ok mate i dont want to argue with you anymore - like i said belive what you want to and ill belive in what i want to

  • Depeche Mode? You might as well like Cold Play! YACK

J.C. gives the song way more depth and meaning.

And all you bible thumpers need to piss off!

  • i am amazed by this cover , thank you so much for posting , it's in my favs , thank you

  • Billy Preston on the piano...wow!

  • I really like this version but I still think the depeche mode versions the best!

  • this song is not about jesus

  • so what? I am anoint about your message

  • naar de hel met jezus tis gewoon een waanzinnig nummer.....

  • Amazing riff, and love the piano in this too. I've had this in my head for days now.

  • brilliant cover

  • Awesome cover...

  • JESUS ROCKS!!

LITERALLY...He is coming soon...it will be terrifying to those who do not know Him!

  • LOL...the meaning of this song is completely lost on you. Not surprising that you are a brainwashed sheep.

Q: Why should Jesus be terrifying?

I thought he is all loving and forgiving!

  • Read Revelation 19:11-21

Surely you know that it WILL be terrifying to those who do not know Him, don't you?

  • To be honest I just feel sorry for the likes of you. Best of luck now.

  • You never answered my question.

  • you are all fucked...peAce

  • shame his dead :(

  • A real Christian man. He cared more about the homeless, the drunks, the prisoners, the drug addicts, more than the ladies in the Sunday hats.

  • fucking A !

  • May he rest in peace- the man in BLACK

oh yah fuck the Jonas Brothers

  • The reason Johnny's version is THE best because is he's sincere about the message - he always was, God bless 'im.

Manson's is a sick and twisted insincere parody of his typical commercialy polished garbage that insults the Good Lord... something very seriously wrong with that gir... er, boy. (I think)

  • the song has nothing to do with jesus, its about someone always looking up to someone.

  • ozzilla,

You are wrong, Johnny Cash was a very devout Christian with a personal relationship to Jesus Christ.

  • just because he was a christian doesn't mean he can change the meaning of a song he didn't write. It isn't a christian song. if it was a worship song manson wouldn't have covered it. Manson and Cash both liked the song. Manson wasn't mocking it. stop thinking like a christian and think for yourself

  • Thinking like a Christian IS thinking for yourself.

And you are wrong about the purport of the song ozz - Johnny Cash (RIP) sang it as worship to God Almighty whether you want to believe it or not.

  • whatever i don't need to have a christian- atheist argument on youtube that's stupid. your just bashing the true meaning because you want to convince yourself that Johnny Cash was a "good christian." on the other hand i don't actually care because i'm a huge fan of Johnny Cash and i'm not biased. The meaning i put earlier is the real meaning thats what the depeche mode singer said. so i don't see how that can be wrong.

  • ozz,

So you would just rather ignore the fact Johnny served in Billy Graham revivals for decades and witnessed to millions so it doesn't shake your world view?

Must be a pretty feeble view you have there (to be so) easily shaken!

  • I am not ignoring the fact that Johnny Cash was a christian. Just cause he's a christian and jesus happens to be in the lyrics of the song doesn't mean its about jesus. I'm ignoring the fact that you desperately want your favorite singer to go to heaven.

  • ozz, that is an ignorant statement.

I don't have to desperately want Johnny to go to heaven I KNOW without any anxiety whatsoever Johnny IS in heaven.

"Reach out and touch faith... your own personal Jesus" yeah, right, that's not about Jesus.

Plus, he's not my favorite singer - my wife is my favorite singer.

  • i really still don't see how you can argue with the writer of the song about what the lyrics mean and reference. Its about people who look up to other people. how one person is another persons jesus/role model.

  • Here's how:

Different singers have different interpretations of any song based on their own unique perspectives - in Johnny's case it is a dedicated Christian perspective.

This is a song that is open to a sincere, or a mocking interpretation. IMHO based on 40+ years in listening to him: Johnny does this very sincerely, do do anything else would be completely out of character for him.

    Marylin on the other hand....

  • You are so right Ozzilla :)

    read between the lines.

People thinks everything is about jesus with johnny cash LOL.

  • something lika that.....

  • no he didnt- a personal jesus is someone you can belive in and trust to be there when you need them most- and i know your going to say ''well jesus is always there'' well it could be about jesus to christians or it could mean a loved one to aethiests

  • @franticey you are stupid. Go look at the 100's of performances Johnny and June Carter did where they shared their testimony of CHRISTIAN faith, many of these were at Billy Graham revivals. Johnny sang as a servant to The Lord Almighty... a very SPECIFIC Jesus Christ of Nazereth... not some stupid self-made concept as you would have us believe.

  • Dude, many people change the meanings of songs when they sing them. That's the whole point of covering a song: to put your own spin on it.

  • screw this im not responding to these anymore.

  • hahahahaha

  • I havn't herd Depeche Mode's original, but i thought Mansons was quite good, can't fault cash's version either. Legend!

  • Another brilliant cover by Johnny. I also like his Soundgarden cover of Rusty Cage and his NIN cover of Hurt.

  • this song was in the awesome movie "Expelled."

  • Yeah it was in expelled. Great song.

  • First time I heard this song was in "Expelled" and I love it. I watched the movie 4 times in four days. Something I've never done. What did you think of the movie?

  • Personal Jesus, originally from Depeche Mode's "Violator" album, was covered (very badly) by Marilyn Manson, then awesomely by Johnny Cash.

    RIP Man in Black.

  • @moonrakerone Johnny Cash covered it in 2002 and Marylin Manson in 2004.

  • pure fucking epic

  • He overcame so much, and what an amazing voice and message!

  • super

  • his version was the first

    the best

    the onliest

  • lolwut? he covered depeche mode

  • @KonstantinEckl1994 No, the first was the Depeche Mode's version. Cash did a covered of it.

  • love it

  • recorded practically minutes before his death. genius.

  • greatest country singer of all time

  • @bayekane best over all singer

  • Why did he wright it?

  • wright?

  • best.video.evar.

  • i think this is his best song

  • @bayekane it's not his, it's a cover, the original song is by Depeche Mode

  • holy shit i i didnt know johnny did a version of this too!! much better than maryln's
