  • I'm an MA student currently writing my thesis on O'Connor. She changed my life in the same way. She's a challenge, but that's the fun of it. :) I just wanted to say thanks for the lecture, and thank you for teaching her: I feel like she does not get enough respect in so many ways.

  • Pretty much one of the best American short story writers of all time. Great that you're teaching your students such a phenomenal writer. I get that you're teaching it with a religious perspective, but you might want to consider tha Flannery's work deals HIGHLY with racism and the clash of the old south mindset vs. the more enlightened thinking that came with the southern Renaissance. She was a catholic writer but to focus entirely on her religious ideas in her fiction, is, I believe, unfair.

  • Hi Candy, Thanks for your comments. You are right of course about O'Connor's multiple messages. I wish I had time to spend a few weeks on this rather than one class. But we do hit on the racism and changes in the South. Sarah
