  • this is the best distortion pedal i've ever heard or used

  • thanks! been looking for a good tone for mine. i have a bc rich warlock revenge and an ibanez rg350dx and line6 spider III 30w amp. i used to have a fender frontman 15g amp, tiny piece of shit, but with the right pedals it sounds GREAT! suprisingly xD

  • With a Fender Jaguar !!!

    Dream: Fender Jaguar

  • What pickups on that jaguar?

Is that mini humbucker for strat are you using?

  • @Parasiteque Actually, they are Seymour Duncan cool rails encased in cut-off Fender Jaguar pickup covers. The whole idea is to get around the same tone with some beefiness minus the hum. Jaguar pickups are typcally hotter than a strat (6.8K Ohms = Jaguar vs.6.4 Kohms = strat).

  • @creepingnet Thanks, love the sound when it gets little distortion

  • @creepingnet Great sound ... and thanks for the reply

  • DUDE U FREAKIN ROCK

  • feature=player_detailpage#t=124s

    was epic

  • Haha, behold the power of marketing... This exact same pedal cost $139 and were marketed by Boss as "throwback", a lot of the people who say it sounds like shit would be licking its nuts for a "unique, crunchy, old school tone".

Funny to watch marketers make consumers their bitches, but frustrating when a company produces a decent product for cheap, only to hear bullshit from idiots who don't know "good" from "bad", so they simply favor whatever costs more and put down whatever costs less.

  • @LandonInFlorida I agree. It's amazing how many of the same effect pedal circuits are re-used, or slightly modified, and then sold at a lower price only to get ragged on because the price is lower but not because the product is inferior.

  • Sounds fuckin' badass. Good vid, man.

  • works for bass?

  • The pedal doesnt sound good, but thank you for demoing it now I know not to get one ha.

  • Thank you for the demo I like your playing and I like this pedal!

  • i like distortion, but not that many ;(

  • Pedal sounds good, but please learn how to play CFH properly before you slaughter it again...

  • good pedal lots of diffrent tones!many people dont know how simpe distortion units are!AND HOW EASY IT IS TO STOP THEM FROM SQEELING! fuck boutiqe pedals!! get a book and DIY!IM gonna get a couple and mod em!! the enclosure is fuckin awesome!some house of kolor paint and some sick custom water slide decals!!!any body wanna sell 1?

  • good pedal lots of diffrent tones!many people dont know how simpe distortion units are!AND HOW EASY IT IS TO STOP THEM FROM SQEELING! fuck boutiqe pedals!! get a book and DIY!IM gonna get a couple and mod em!! the enclosure is fuckin awesome!some house of kolor paint and some sick custom water slide decals!!!any body wann sell 1?

  • ITS CREEPING DEATH!!! jk

  • HARVESTER OF SORROW

  • sounds great if i didnt have a metal zone i would get it but my distortion is taken care of

  • it was a good video till the jazz started...

  • how much is this starcaster distortion pedal?

  • wiggzzzz its not a terrible pedal! ur mom is

  • nice jaguar man

  • Hey, that pedal had several cool tones. six knobs, that a lot more control over the sound than even the TubeScreamers. He showed it off in ways that made it sound like a Blues distortion, a DS-1, a Cool Cat Drive, of course the TS-9 and even made it bark like a Big Muff.

And its reasonably priced,to boot? What's not to like?

Thanks for showing me this great pedal, man.

  • I like the sound, it sounds like a DS-1

  • at 1:19 that sound so kool!!

  • 5:26 MASTER OF PUPPETS

    5:36 ENTER SAND MAN

    My favorites...

  • hey that was sick man!!

btw how much did you get your jaguar for?

  • $650

  • @creepingnet

    Uh

This is the Fender Starcaster Distortion EQ Pedal yes?

you do know on Amazon.com you can get them for 35 bucks right?

  • @CCRockit Yeah, now you can, but back when this was made (2008ish), they were selling in target for $45, which is when I bought mine.

I never heard of it called an EQ pedal, they usually just call it a Distortion pedal.

  • @creepingnet

    Oooooh that makes sense

  • @creepingnet lol, I bought mine on ebay (unopened) for about 12 bucks

  • Different Strokes for Different Folks, it is after all a friggin pedal. Not a Tube amplifier, which I prefer.

  • this is actualy the best *CHEAP* distortion box you can get (in my opinion)

  • what about the overdrive pedal?

  • Very nicely, i loved how you played rock bottom by ufo and most of the metallica stuff was wicked, this pedal gets quite a nice sound, helped alot, im gonna buy one

  • Is that a Jaguar? looks like one.

  • Yep

1998 Fender Jaguar 62' Reissue, CIJ

    - SD Cool Rails

    - Stock Trem and Bridge

    - 500K Pots on Lead circuit

    - Push/Pull coil tap for rails on Lead Tone Knob

  • Then why say it's a starcaster?

  • Because the PEDAL (caps for emphasis not shout) is a Starcaster branded pedal, not the guitar. The Guitar is a Fender Jaguar, the Pedal is a Fender Starcaster Distortion pedal Target was selling for around $35 a few years back. Fender has re-used the old Starcaster model name on new products for Target.

  • you did not just play a little bit of Breed form nirvana at 3:46 :D great deminstration never the less ;)

  • Yep, Breed

  • this is a very good pedal i bought mine $40 and i was very suprised......i had to replace my ibanez fuzz

  • ive heard jaguars suck i dont belive it is it true

  • Jaguars are surprisingly capable in all Genres, it's all in how you tweak the knobs and set up the bridge, after that, they can do what you like depending upon the amp and setup you use.

  • Definitely not the best distortion I've ever heard, but considering these things go for under $15 on Ebay it sounds pretty good. I think it might be a good investment for a project pedal. Even if you threw away the circuit board, you could easily spend $40 on a chassis, pots, and switch.

  • hey every 1 is leaving comments on how this pedal is shit. they all say that it broke or it drains batteries. i use 1 and it works great on my les paul and gdec amp. the thing is, if u hav a crapy amp, it will sound like shit no matter what pedal u use. same with a guitar, if the guitar sux the effect will probably suck. and the only reason it drains battery is because people forget 2 unplug their cables. and if you cant afford batteries all the time buy an adaptor. not the pedal's fault guys.

  • I like the design of the pedal but it def. doesnt contend with some of the other pedals. :/

  • You...You is the GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the help! =] another question, whats the name of the pedal your using?

  • It's in the title

  • FAIL

  • sorry what i mean whats the song at 4:25?

  • Seek & Destroy by Metallica

  • what did you play at 4:15 ? i cant remember that song... =S but i know i have heard it before.

  • Creeping Death by Metallica

  • PLEASE tell me what song is at 5:02

  • Cowboys From Hell by Pantera

  • thanx :D and im bought 1 of these pedals from ebay for $14 how much did u pay for yours?

  • i think i need one of those, esp at target prices...thx

  • I love how there's no explanation of how the pedal functions or what the knobs are, just straight into it.

  • is the starcaster the same as the stratacaster ?

  • No. Starcaster was originally a 1970's Model Fender Hollowbody guitar with twin humbucking pickups. They revived the model name as a 3rd brand name (kind of like Squier) recently for cheap "low-end" guitars and gear being sold at Target. There's a Stratocaster being sold under the brand as "Starcaster" though it's really a Squier Strat type guitar from what I understand, and these Distortion, Flanger, and Chorus Pedals as well.

  • yo the starcaster is mad cheap you get the strat pack for 2 bills

  • I was skeptical of this pedal when I saw it in the store but now I see that you can get a good range of tone out of it! Having a sweet guitar like that one probably helps out a lot though :)

  • THAT SONG IS HELL BELLS BY AACDC

  • i'm in the studio and it's going out over the jBl's at high volume....

power riffs between 4- 5 minutes and your lead tone at 8:30 are the 2 best tones for recording..and the tones of that last line right before it ends are good......

it's a very good pedal if thats the style of your music..not an opinion, a fact

  • Oh Gosh.. My guitar is a 1964. Oh well.

  • I played a Russian, and it's not that much better than this

  • Does This Work For a BC Rich Bronze (cheaper warlock)

  • hey i just got one of these but it just makes this buzzing noise and now if i play two or more strings at once it just plays it for like half a second then its silent...did i brake it >_>

  • Sounds like either the battery is dead or you got a defective unit. I'm betting on the latter.

  • Get an AC jack fir it to plug into the wall. I don't even bother with the battery.

  • so, this pedal works with any guitar right?

  • Nope, distortion pedals can only be used with guitars made between 1952 and 1963.

    Dumbass...

  • Lol, Nice Dood.

And to Fatcows, FAIL, and EPIC FAIL

  • Thanks for the demo, This pedal is actually kind of cool and especially for the price, in the hands of player such as Eddie VH or Tony Iommi they would have made a classic song with it. Got to use your imagination. Just remember that on the song paranoid Tony Iommi used a small amp with a torn speaker for the lead and it made for a cool effect.

  • That thing sounds really horrible. Too digital and buzzy.

  • That's an analog pedal, idiot...

  • Excuse me, pompous cock sucker, for not knowing the signal path of some cheap shit distortion pedal from target. It sounds horrible regardless.

  • Then what in your opinion is a better pedal for the money?

  • If that thing is $50, then for $10 more, you could get the Electro Harmonix Russian Big Muff, which is a fantastic pedal.

  • your guitar is beautiful

  • I have a boss ds1

  • they are amazing, i have it too

  • i cant get mine to work!!!

  • ooooo gotcha i figured it sounds way to good to be a jagmaster im saving up to get the jaquar i have a mustang reissue it a great guitar but when played the jaq i knew what i wanted yea have you tryed the grunge pedal

  • ha thats so funny that you would say that..i have a Jag and when i played the 65 mustang reissue I knew i had to have one.....i think that guitar is so cool..

  • isnt that the jagmaster not the starcastor

  • 1 - The Guitar is a Jaguar, not a JAgmaster

2 - The Pedal brand is Starcaster

  • lol about this pedal... lol it sucks, I got it yesturday for christymas (new) and i put everything together for it and it ended up burning out

  • i have this pedal

    it was my first

i still have it i love it

there are better pedals but for the price

this is the one u want

  • i have that pedal... it doesnt work for me...

  • can you tab this out??

  • same to johnson eq2

  • that sounds good

  • I bought this pedal for $17.50 off of eBay very good deal, the only reason it was sold so cheap was b/c he wasn't so sure if it works b/c he couldn't test it. I took the risk and I'm so glad I did it sounds perfect and it works like new

  • 2:00???

  • Harvester of Sorrow by Metallica

  • One of Metallica's better songs too.

  • this thing destroy a ds-1

  • your off your noggin

  • well i think if i get pay today im going straight to target and check if they have it cause i really need one since my amp dosent have build in distortion

  • if not at target i got mine at hastings

  • that distortion pedal is decent especially for small weak amps it makes them sound good :P

  • That's one reason I've kept it around, is because it works great for when I'm using small practice amps when jamming with friends and such. Also, I have a Roland Street Cube, and I don't have a footswitch for clean/distortion on it, so I just use this instead.

  • pantera cowboys from hell

  • i bought one of those pedals it was a waste of money and was a peice of shit, it broke the day after i bought it

  • well its worked gr8 for me. you probably left the plugs in after playin, that drains the battery u just gotta put a new one in and always unplug leads of the pedal after practice

  • Fender has some good shit out there

  • I have only have $50 bucks which starcaster pedal would you reccomend?

  • the distortion you can get it from target for like $35

  • You could get a Boss DS-1 for 30

  • I've seen this at Best Buy for $40. I might get it.

  • Whats the song that starts at 4:25, Its sounds really familiar. Its driving me crazy lol. I'm thinking of buying one of these

  • Metallica - Seek and Destroy

  • Thanks man, I was Checking my songs, I figured it was metallica.

  • ivb got this pedal now, was 50 dollars. how much was urs?

  • can you tell me how long the how many playing hours am i spost to get with a 9v battery cause i have that pedal but it just drains all the power in like 2 days i keep it off when im not useing

  • I can't tell exactly, because it seems to me the battery life on mine is just fine...sounds like these pedals are rather hit and miss. Are you leaving it plugged in, because that could be the problem, some of my pedals keep the battery circuit active even when they are plugged in.

  • yeah most of the time ill unplug it for now on see how it works, thanks for tip

  • and also nice guitar what is that a fender jagstang

  • Thx, 1998 Fender Jaguar 62' Reissue, Crafted in Japan. It has dual Seymour Duncan Cool Rails pickups.

In my other vids I have a sonic blue Jag-Stang with EMG pickups installed (SA-1 = neck, 81 = bridge). And I also have a black Jaguar HH as well.

  • all very nice guitars im saving up to buy a mustang

  • when you are done unplug the chords from it or else it will keep draining it take them both out cause i got the same one it still uses power even though u turn the button off.

  • hey i have this pedal and i was wonder what levels are best to make a good metal sound?

  • Great review. I've seen this at Target and wondered for years what it sounds like. I'm impressed and I'm surprised at how flexible it is. Wide variety of tones in there. The purists are going to freak out, but it sounds like a Fulltone Distortion Pro with the gain all the way up.

  • whats the name of the pedal? looks pretty versatile and good!

  • Fender Starcaster Distortion, they're a cheapie sold at Target.

  • yep lol thats where i got mine

  • hey dude i just bought one and the reason im looking at this video is to see if it really works i have it and its like no diff

so im woundering how are you getting the distortion besides moving the dials and also did you figure out the levels your self or is their a web site or something anything would help thanks bro

  • There's a silver button along the bottom that needs to be pressed pretty hard, as it's intended for your foot. That turns the pedal on and off. If you've already done that, that does'nt sound good for the pedal.

  • haha thanks i knew that already my dumbass forgot to check the battery lol but im woundering if you have tips on how to get good effects out it like a chart or something like i see you movint the dials but i cant see them clearly to copy the effects haha

  • No problem. Actually, I'm looking into making a PDF of my pedal settings eventually. I use this pedal a lot at practice sessions. So far I've been able to eek out some Cars, Loverboy, Nirvana, Thin Lizzy, and other sounds.

  • haha that would be awsome man and thanks bra

  • i have a few questions

will this work with any amp?

will it work with a B.C. Rich Virgin VG1 Guitar?

what cables/batteries or anything do i need to get this pedal to work?

  • you shud look up more about pedals in general, all your questions shud be answered.

but in short, 1. yes 2. yes 3. read about the product online

  • i can't get mine to work. the input and output outlets have cables in them, does this thing need a battery or what?

  • yes but it need to have a 9v adapter for it to plug in a outlet

  • or u can use a 9v battery

  • yes it needs a battery or you need a 9v Dc jack to plug it into the wall, but make sure you unplug it before you are done!!!

  • sounds horrible. what are good distortion pedals i can get ??

  • well this distortion pedal is like a beginner-intermediate kinda pedal... other pedals that cost $100-$400 are like the very expert ones, but this pedal is still good for its price

  • im not really sure on different pedals lol or even really how to use one... but if i were to buy like one to begin with or my first one... what would you recomend?

  • The Boss DS-1 is a very good starter distortion pedal. It's only $40 and it sounds pretty good for the price point (especially since this pedal costs 42 dollars and sounds washed out and colorless).

  • Egad... is it really that trebly with flat EQ? That sounds horrible... Would you say it's a metal pedal or a "Nirvana-ish, Weezer like" pedal?

  • It's kinda sorta both. I think that was the idea considering this pedal is aimed mostly at 13 year old beginning guitar players who are often into those kinds of bands.

  • Wow, Im a 13 year old beginning guitar player with a Fender Starcaster guitar 0.o Im more of a Old metallica and AC/DC but i like Nirvana. Not a Weezer fan though. My guitar came with a SP-10. Im getting a Peavey and imma try and buy one, thanks for the vid!

  • yeah i have this pedal(getting a better berenger one soon) and yeah it has massive distortion good for mainly metal or nirvana(not all grunge just nirvana) n omatter what i do i cant get it to normal distortion, i still like it better than the dist. on the amp itself tho, cuz tht shit sucks

  • i has this pedal

    i love it

  • does this run on batts or power supply? if batts which ones? how's the life?

  • So far I've had it almost a month, and the generic hang don battery in it is still hanging in there really good, of course, I don't use it every day, so that might be one reason.

  • i have this pedal and i think its a good all around pedal can get alot of different tones from it you just need to experement

  • dang..how long have you been playing guitar?

  • 13 years

  • woah

  • Do you think this pedal would be good for metal? I'm thinking of buying it

  • Oh and I'm using a Spider III is that helps

  • It seems to do really well on thrash stuff, and I could see it working out in a modern metal setting.

  • I heard it breaks fast. Like, it's good for a week then it breaks or something. Has this happened to you?

  • Not in my case, but then I don't use it every day. I can't see how it could being as it's made out of metal.

  • what song are you playing at 4:24?

  • Metallica - Seek & Destroy, from the Kill Em' All Album, just before I changed tones and started diddling around to come up with another tone and kicked into Pantera's Cowboys From Hell.

  • i have it. its great for metal
