  • My apartment doesn't receive adequate sunlight to grow veggies or bring sprouts to their full strength, what would you recommend? Beans and basic sprouts work just fine.

  • @uhltron You can definitely grow sunflower sprouts as well as the beans and basics you mentioned in your apartment. The sunflower sprouts shown in this video are grown using 'artificial light' only... there is enough of the right wavelengths available to start the chlorophyll/greening process. I can't speak for other types of veggies... but with a light bulb, you can get your sunflower sprouts to 'green out'. Experiment and see for yourself. Enjoy!!

  • I've been sprouting broccoli, alfalfa and radish sprouts and lentils for 4 years now. After watching your video I am going to try and sprout sunflower seeds. You made it easy for me, and I thank you very much.

  • thank you for this video!

  • Are raw striped sunflower seeds that are for birds sproutable.

  • @wildflowerr1 It is safest to avoid using bird seed as it is not intended for human consumption. The issue is with possible molds/fungi that could grow and contaminate your sprouts. (plus those seeds could be irradiated / not sproutable). The seeds you need can be purchased online or at health food stores. These seeds have a high sprouting ratio as they are food grade and sorted for sprout-ability. There are many vendors if you search online for sprouting seeds :-)

  • Great video!(:

  • Thank u

  • Nice video. Bet you will be really happy with your 'tats' when you are 50.

  • after trial and error, I finally grew sunflower greens yay

  • That is awesome! I love how you used the pie pans.

  • Thanks!!

Time to go soak some seeds...

  • Alright this is probably a dumb question but, sunflower sprouts, Assuming I let them grow to a full size plant, couldn't I make sunflower seeds. and if so, are they the same plant as sunflower seeds you would buy at the store?

  • @oceanofdarkstars1 yea, sunflower sprouts are just baby sunflower plants. once the flowers are fully mature and die, you need to dry the flowers under the for a few days, then you can pluck the seeds, you need to put the seeds in the freezer for 3 weeks then you can use them to sprout again, using this method you would never have to buy seeds ever again.

  • @sokingssddk Awesome, I totally have a full Aquaponics system running in a green house now so Im growing a ton of veggies, fish, shrimp, and crawl-fish. I have so much veggies Im even supplying a few restaurants. I cannot wait to apply for my Organic Seal :) I Love living in south texas. today was 80F tomorrow is supposed to be 83 :)

  • its been 3 days,mineis still not sprouting,what did I do wrong?

  • Great video! Can you sprout sunflowers without soil?

  • @ParadiseWellnessPR Yes, you do need the soil for sprouting "sunflower greens" using sunflower seeds "in-shell". However, if you want to sprout raw, shelled sunflower seeds so they are easier to digest; those can be done using a jar sprouting method (as in my Sprouting Legumes) video. With this method, using soil provides the stimuli needed for an actual 'green shoot' to form and allows the roots to take hold. As always, experiment experiment - see what works! SO much fun.

  • @RAWlike100 I sprout mine in jars and eat with the roots, no soil and it works well, but I will try your method as it sounds like it takes less time to grow them, great tips, thanks.

  • >.< Ah, she's hot.

  • Mahalo nui loa! Great video and instructions!

  • I don't say this often, but your video was clear and concise and went through the process in a very understandable and down to earth way. Good job and keep it up. :)

  • This is the BEST video on youtube about growing sunflower sprouts. This is my first time and all the others were so CONFUSING. Thank you for making it simple!

  • Holy, that's some nice artwork on your arms!

  • Oops, found it, Thanks, the source of your seeds. Great INFO!!

  • Awesome, I'm just entering the sprouting world, and appreciate your info and your comments as well. Haven't yet found your source for purchase of seeds?

  • I think the most important reason for keeping the pie plate on top is to hold the moisture in the soil. If you didn't have the plate on top the water would evaporate much quicker and dry out.

  • Very helpful video, plus you're cute! Let's talk dirt. Are you using bagged soil? Could I use compost or regular garden soil/dirt?

  • @EarthMamaMsNatural We use indoor potting soil. We tried using outdoor dirt/compost and ended up getting strange molds, spontaneous insects, or other surprises. Great if they are outside, but on the kitchen counter - not so good. So we stick with Organic Indoor Potting Soil... we compost the root ball disk that is left over and use it for the tomato plants the following growing season.

  • @RAWlike100

I have a question. After you sprout them and cut the sunflower sprouts , what is the best way to store them in the fridge? In a closed container?

  • @6139662668 You can store them for up to a week in the fridge. It is best to put them in a container in the fridge so that they don't wilt.

  • Finally! Someone who knows how to do this the right way! I've been wanting to do this for over 6 months, but everyone's method is too complicated or too expensive or too messy. This is clean, neat, and perfect. Thanks a million!

  • Awesome video! Thank you so much.

  • great vid

  • Really good video, very well presented!

  • Sorry if it's off topic, but I like your tatts!!

  • Hi,

great video. One question I have . Do you water each day or just the first time you put the seeds in the tray ? Thanks.

  • @fixedgearhead Typically, you don't have to add extra water to the seeds while they are in the dark germinating (the first three days - the initial watering of the soil usually stays wet enough). Once you remove them from the dark and take off the glass plate, you may need to water everyday or every other - you can tell because the sprouts start to fall over or not look as turgid/upright. Just water as as much as needed, but be sure not to overwater! They will perk right up!

  • why use soil?

  • So, after harvest, do you throw it out before you start your new batch?

  • @kumikotar Yes, actually I compost the left over root ball/dirt disk. We then use it outside for new annual plants and flowers.

  • Really cool Video! Nice job girl!!

  • The only "Black Oil" Sunflower seeds I can find are for "wild birds".

  • @karenbcz22 The first batch I made, I used the seeds that I normally feed to the birds....worked great even with some of them being the ones with stripes on them. I even made a video following these instructions. If you click on my name, you will be able to see them grow the playlist I started with Indoor gardening. What fun this is & the sprouts were delicious in a sandwich; made a video on that too. Great instructions in here though.

    Thank you.

  • I can't find those Black Oil Sunflower seeds for sprouting. Do the once with the WHITE stripe work just as well?

  • @karenbcz22 I have not used any other type of sunflower than the black oil types - which are organic and for sprouts. You can order them from Mumm's Sprouting Seeds or Sprout Master. These two suppliers have been great for various sprouting seeds. Go explore!

  • So, after you cut the sprouts, do they keep growing? Or do you have to start a new batch of seeds?

  • @karenbcz22 You do have to start a new batch of seeds each time for Sunflower Sprouts. However, you can use this exact same method for growing wheat grass and you can harvest it two or three times... just know that with each successive cuttings, there is less and less potency in the nutrient level as the contents of these nutrients in the seed gets used up. You can taste the difference with each harvest. Experiment and Enjoy!

  • @RAWlike100 Ok. Thanks for your reply. Did you do a wheatgrass video also?

  • About to do this, thanks!!

  • Hi Thanks for posting.

Do you pull up the whole little sprout and eat the root also? or just the green part?

    Thanks.

  • @greensings I just cut it about 1 inch from the root and just eat the tops (not the roots) - kinda like giving your sprouts a hair cut :-)

But it sure feels good to eat fresh greens, especially this time of year.

  • I've never seen it done like this. Cool! And you mentioned something that many don't mention... all the energy it takes to bring food to our tables... all the polution... etc. It's great to make your own foods! Peace.

  • @rawrebrev

Exactly! I have been contemplating all the pollution generated in food transportation lately from extensive refrigeration to air pollution and just general freshness of our food! It is something we need to consider as we move into our futures. It is just "spiritually rewarding" when you do it yourself! Good karma!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing this info!! Going to do this method this week and will give you feedback too. :) But I just have a feeling it's going to work out great. aloha~from maui

  • @TheJamoid

Awesome! it does work well as the pie plates rinse out so easy - we use it for "pea shoots" as well as wheat grass - same procedure.
