Hedgehogs can be shy when you first get them. I would recommend that you handle yours daily. It can help your hedgehog also if you have a set time to spend with him so that he can get used to a routine.

@MIRAGEasil this is a little late, but if you sleep in a shirt one night, put that shirt in your hedgies cage, and hell snuggle in it and everything, and hell get used to your scent.

@MIRAGEasil there is a group of hedge hog care videos that look like they would be helpful. one is hedge hog care: how to tame your hedge hog. it seems like one of the biggest things is to get them used to your scent and for them to learn to trust that you aren't going to hurt them. i am studying them because i would like to have one. i would think worm bribes would work on getting it to love you.

doesn't look like he's enjoying it. he just wants to get out of the tube: hence always trying to crawl up the wall. when a hedgie really swims, he's floating belly up in the water, completely relaxed. this one looks distressed and doesn't like water.

It is his first time swimming! When this was filmed he had not had much water experience. Now when he swims he calmly treads water hardly moving anywhere at all.

I used to have a hedgehog and gave him baths in the bathroom sink. He'd react the same way at first, but it's natural and they do eventually get more used to it. Baths also help the bonding process because afterwards they'll cuddle up with you to dry and warm up :)

@petrosoap they should get used to water though. Hedgehogs are gross little poopers and tend to like to fire them off while running in their wheels. So baths are inevitable. :) Lots of "firsts" are stressful for all animals, including people. It won't harm him and the more used to it he gets, the more he'll probably like it.
