Hey how about with LG Simplink?? i want to use an external device to my tv then use the home theater speakers. in simplink options u can select whether to use tv or home theater speakers but if i choose home theater i dont' hear anything pls help... btw the dvd is connected via HDMI
Help please, i got a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 sound system, and the ''control center'' got a Optical out/in-put, but not my Philips 32'' HDTV, and my Philips 32'' HDTV got HDMI, but my ''controll center'' in Logitech Z-5500 does not ...?
@MarouaneOfficial2011 Of course. A/V just carry two analog signals: 1st audio in stereo (left and right) + 2nd video... HDMI carries audio and video **digitally** this will let you see images up to 1080p... and envolving sound (5.1 channels or more)...
@Nando85ec there are different qualities of HDMI cables. they are the standard and high speed. these cables are rated by the speed of the signal. the new 3D tv's require high speed HDMI cables in order to to send the digital information from the player to the tv. 10.2gps and higher are required for 3D.
urgh, my tv is kinda is frustrating, my only output is head phones! plz help, i have nothing else butspeakers with jacks that look like rca cables, one on each, i dont have that thing they all conect to, a stereo or whatever, what do i need, i dont have optical, and i only have hdmi IN not OUT
nice video but doesn't work for me. i connected sony home theater to samsung LED tv via optical cable but nothing. do i have to change some settings on the tv or home theater unit?
If you've connected a regualr DVD player use Digital coxial cable usually labled orange, conect one end of the cable to te reciever's dvd's coxial in jack to the back of the DVD's player;s digital out jack. For a higher quality video signal u should use HDMi if u have that on your tv and dvd player, cause HDMI use and carries all signals, all the way up to 7.1
@KolerikRocks thanks for your reply. i got it working 2 or so weeks ago. i have to change some settings on the home theater to get it working with the tv.
Nice Vid, my question is I only have 1 HDMI cable connection on my cable converter and 1 on my DVD bluray player which means I have to connect 1 HDMI to my tv from converter and 1 from my DVD blueray player. this is stupid!! I should only have to connect 1 to TV not two.
I am using a receiver with both Opti and HDMI inputs. Which cbl has the better sound? Though I prfer to only have one cbl going to the Tv for a cleaner look so I will most likely use the HDMI but would like to know which is better for sound?
@wild300zx the fiber optic sound is better than hdmi sound thats why sony put the fiber optic cable on there next tto the hdmi port. i can tell the differences between the two. i use optical for sound and hdmi for video.
can i still hear regular t.v even if am not watchin a movie through a home theater system and also can i use my home theater system as speakers if my speakers went out on my t.v.
Connect Xbox and Blu ray player to TV via HDMI. Then route audio out from your TV to your home theater system via optical spdif.
You can connect your Xbox another way as well. Buy component cables from your game retailer. Plug the three HD video cables into your tv and plug the other three into your receiver as per corresponding colors.
Here's what you do ... Get As many HDMI cables you need for PS3 , Xbox360 , Bluray players etc etc , Then run all your HDMI cables into the AVR Receiver , Once you did that you'll run 1 hdmi cable from Receiver to your HDTV !! Now your all hooked up ready to go right? WRONG ... Make sure you go into your AVR receiver any turn on HDMI inputs n out . Then you should be up and running !!!
this is shit ok so i have a dvd home theater system i only have red and white cables. i connect the cables to the theater system then the other end to the tv? and thats it?
and what about a xbox i only have the component cables?
Don't have a Toslink input on your surround system? Get a converter, from Toslink to Coax(digital) they have them available and it works. Usually if a system doesn't have Toslink(optical) it has Coaxial(RCA digital).
I have an old sound system and I have 6 AV cables that need to be connected to the TV how the fuck do i do it when theres not enough ports on the TV...
These guys really are dumb. You don't put your tv in to your home theater system. You put your home theater system in to your tv. Every thing goes to the receiver/Amp and then to your tv via the monitor out. That way you can press one button and get picture and sound. You will also be able to process Dolby Digital and DTS. A tv can only pass Dolby Digital.
hey.. is a good video. i have a problem with my plasma. i was checking on the back and it doesn't have any pot-put jacks. so i dont know how i can connect my plasma to my sound system.. i want to be able to hear my sound system with the regular channels.
you show the cables, but you dont show how, i just connected my ODAC from my stereo to my TV and it doesnt work..please help!! please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at 0:56 That's not a toslink coax. It's a Digital OPTICAL. And at 1:25, you can only use HDMI for audio/video OUT. not sound in.

Good instructions.
At the moment I use a speaker system on my PS3 using RCA.
The only thing is, my tv doesn't give sound anymore, because the PS3 doesn't output sound through HDMI anymore.
Is there a way to have sound through my speakers and tv together??
Probably the only way is Optical, because my tv has optical out and the PS3 is still able to send sound through the HDMI.
The problem is, my sound system only has RCA connections. How can I get optical to RCA??
