  • yoda:there has been a disturbence in the force

  • Interesting, I got directed here from Kotaku, I will subscribe.

  • To be completely honest here Ulillillia I don't think you did fall down that hole dilliberately. You're good at this game but you're not the best.

  • I did do it deliberately. When you take a hit, you otherwise cannot get the feather back as that block hasn't respawned. Thus, to get it back and resume scoring big, you need to get rid of Mario and jumping down a bottomless pit is an excellent way to do that.

  • bopping

  • I was a bit suspicious when I saw the 2up and 3up as I had only ever seen those in the GBA version, so I downloaded a clean ROM and tested it.

    Turns out it does work.

  • One stomp was worth 222 coins and 512000 points!

  • noob

  • My eyes went wide when the "message" started glitching out. Well done!

  • I've been watching your videos for years Ulillillia, and I've been wondering, what makes you look for these exploits and glitches?

  • It's probably a secondary thing I do. When you've completed the game, there really isn't much else to figure out as you already know the game. So, I go hunting for bugs and other anomalies to add greatly to the replay value of what few games I have. Even through normal play, I'm still keeping an eye out for tough areas.

  • @ulillillia Well it's always really entertaining, keep up the great work.

  • @111wolff111 Grow up, I'm sure ulillillia lives his life however he wants and wouldn't pay mind to stupid comments like this anyway.

  • This begs the question: Why even make a one's place in the score?

  • "Makes you wonder just how insignificant 8000 is..."

    We all feel 8000 sometimes.

  • @Omnominable hahhahaha!!

  • Thank You, this would be VERY useful!!

  • i dunno if you reply to older videos (this ones over a year old!) but do you know the mechanics behind this? so after 3up does it just start requesting garbage memory?

  • I still make replies to my very first video... 27 months old. I don't know the mechanics, but I strongly suspect it's reading from memory outside of the array's bounds. In C programming an array is defined as "int SampleArray[5];". You'd access the 5 elements as "SampleArray[4] = 8;". 4 is the highest with an array size of 5. By doing "TestVariable = SampleArray[18];", you'd be reading memory out of bounds - you never know what you'll get. This game likely does the same.

  • @joewhittles Although a year late, I'll say a little something about this. It seems to have a little bit of organization until a certain point, which is when his score goes crazy. After 1-up, you have these:

    2-up, 3-up, 5-up, 5 coins, 10 coins, 15 coins, 20 coins, 25 coins, 4 coins + 471040 points...

After the 25 coins, things get random. Nintendo must've been planning a coin reward for certain things but never used it.

  • He can get the high score in Super Mario World, but he can't get the high score in remembering his autism medication.

  • @ccjuju Hahahaha

  • The feather is an absolute must if you're after maxing the score like this. I rarely need it aside from scoring. Extra lives are cheap to get anyway, given that bonus game from getting 100 stars. I very commonly get at least 3 extra lives and I have a good chance of 4 and a fair chance of the perfect 8. Even then, there are tons of other ways to get extra lives - Mario is far too easy for me, but at least it's a lot of fun and quite entertaining.

  • Wow! THIS is what you meant by Max Score for SMW. Why not do this for SONIC 3 & KNUCKLES? Yo DO have it on Sonic Mega Collection!

There are two ways to do it:

    1. Use Spin Dash on the exact spot where the lights flash and DO NOT let go! It may cost you a life or two, but you can do it.

    2. Use Debug Mode. Use at least 30 "S-Boxes." When you clear the act, you'll get a HUGE Ring Bonus. But be careful not to get a Super Ring Box, a Special Stage Ring, or a life lost by death.

  • By the way, I was referring to the VERY FIRST spot in Launch Base Zone--where the lights flash.

Also, I meant that you'll lose lives for exceeding ten minutes in the zone.

  • I'm well aware of the Launch Base trick in S3K. It also applies with S3 as well. If you use Tails (get rid of him before and quickly get started), the speed is doubled. It's not 30 ring boxes - rings max at 65,535 (a 16-bit unsigned value) so you'll need not 30 but 1310!

  • @ulillillia You mean S-Boxes. You said Ring Boxes--those are the super rings.

Also, I just can't believe I was WAY OFF on that number. I did try to multiply the number of S-Boxes by 50 Rings.

  • You've got a division case here. You're basically asking how many groups of 50 make 65,535, which is 1310.7, though this has to get rounded down (one more than 1310) and overflow occurs. Group counts mean division.

  • OK, so it's not multiplication, but division. I multiplied 1310 S-Boxes by 50 Rings and it gave me 65,500. So now I understand.

  • i respect that you took the time to figure this out and record it and whatnot, but dude, you really sound like you need to take a skateboard somewhere or something other than just sitting in front of your keyboard or tv all day. Go outside. Don't be a vampire!

  • @HoldySN You don't know ulillillia.

  • @HoldySN ulillillia is a special and unique snowflake. theres so many skateboarders and ordinary people, but theres only one ulillillia

  • @HoldySN You do realize Ulilililia is 26 years old, it'd be a little weird to see someone his age skateboarding (I'd be mortified if any of my peers caught me skateboarding badly at age 24). Not everyone who posts gaming videos on youtube is a child, try and remember that.

  • outstanding video, ulillillia.

  • ahahaha nice

  • Are you using ZSNES? if so, i think theres a button to remove the foreground. Might make this easier visually.

  • What is "ZSNES"? There's only an SNES and NES system (the latter is older). This is the SNES game.

  • oh, no, ZSNES isnt a console. I assumed you were using an Emulator to play this. ZSNES is an emulator that allows you to play SNES games on your computer.

  • I used the real console and a TV tuner to record this.

  • this was definitely interesting!

  • This also seems like a good method of getting 1ups

  • There's a better method that I'm aware of - star world 3 (the game's shortest level with that spike ball throwing thing. Exploit the double-eat glitch with the silver coins and you can get extra lives 50 to 120% faster than this - 99 in about 5 minutes if done well.

  • please show us!

  • I like coins, make you rich XD LOLz

  • wow dude, it's nuts that you figured that out; never knew the counter only went to 5up before freakin out

  • I'll add another recommendation for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

  • Can this be done in any other levels?

    Cool glitch.

  • I don't know of any.

  • Wigglers*

  • yay bopping!

  • i wish i had hypercount

  • 15 counts per second is the limit. I still have fair accuracy with 20 counts per second. It takes great skill and focus to do that.... Of course, this is only about 1 count per second, easy to manage.

  • Thanks man, very helpful

  • Comment removed

  • Could you explain what this means? There are many typos and a few grammar errors and I'm unable to make this out. Also, what objects are you referring to?

  • What is "clinkel"?

  • press start then select on a level u beat will "clinkle" you out of the level.

  • Yeah, but your still not telling me what "clinkel" is?

My guess is it will exit the level and take you back to the world map

  • Holy, you already found a bug in this game? Awesome!

    5/5

By the way, you should really check out the "The Legend of Zelda" series one time. They are extraordinary in many ways. Most definitely one of my favourite game series.

There's also a really awesome zelda game on the gamecube nintendo - "The Legend of Zelda The Windwaker". True miracle, that game is. But your more into the old school/classic games? Either way, you should check it out one time.

  • There's another bug that I'm aware of, but it's class 1 severity, unlike this which is 3.

  • There's an easier method. Search for mario tas.

  • Those centipedes are actually called "Wiggler".

  • Are you talking in this? I cant hear a thing your saying.

  • Check your balance. The vocal track is on the right speaker.

  • There's a section near the end (when the enemies are popping out of the blocks) I find this trick easier there.

  • "Bye Mario, it was nice knowing you."

    uli, you're stone cold

  • For speed reasons, I otherwise had to.

  • Dang, Platform Masters has made a LOT of progress.

Hehe, just joking! NIce video though. I love Mario. My first inspiration to make video games.

  • The overworld is about half finished by now. I'm working on stage 4 (of 5) in the process, figuring out ocean wave details right now.

  • Yeah! Now you are covering good games!!

  • If you like Mario, I've got a full game video of Mario 3, where I complete every single level in the game, if you're interested.

  • Thanks! I have missed that video! I am going to look at it right now

  • I could not find it. Is it not uploaded yet?

  • It was uploaded over a year ago. Check my channel and all my videos. There's nearly 30 segments so it's hard to miss.

  • Thanks! Now i found it

  • Your good as at mario makes me look bad

  • Have you played Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past?

  • Is that the original Zelda? Oddly, I couldn't find details on it at GameFAQs - it's not listed.... If it's not the original, then I don't have as much interest. I've seen the original, from those two friends I often associate with FF6, but never got to play it....

  • It's the first one for the SNES, and the third in the series (the second is a sidescroller).

It's listed on every videogame site, you surely mistyped it. GameFaqs shows the versions for the SNES, the GameBoy Advance and the Wii.

  • I went to Z for Zelda but it wasn't listed....

  • Why would you do that insted of using the search function? Anyways, it's on the L, for "Legend".

  • That's because it's what I'm used to. I'm only aware of just "Zelda", which starts with "Z", so it's logical to check the "Z" section....

  • I highly recommend giving the Legend of Zelda games a try, Ulillillia. The original Legend of Zelda for the NES, and the SNES game Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are both equally very fantastic.

  • I agree about Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past being one of the best games on the SNES. It even has its fair share of fun bugs too, if I remember correctly. I've managed to beat that game in 8 hours straight once. Ulillillia, I think you might like it.

  • It's probably not under Z because the title is "The Legend of Zelda" look under L

  • You never got to play a Link to the Past? You poor man. That game is amazing.

  • I've never really seen the Zelda series, outside the box. Only once have I seen the game (I recall hearts for the health and a sword), but this was the NES version. I know more about DirectX programming than I do anything with Zelda, and yet, I've never used DirectX in any of my games....

  • You are an awesome person, Ulillillia. Just wanted to let you know.

  • Please stop your patronizing. Do you like it when people patronize you?

  • Honestly, I'm not patronising. I like this guy's videos.

  • wow, interesting glitch!

  • This is so ridiculously cool.

I'd get too bored jumping on the centipedes though

  • Hes dead!

  • A much easier to place to do this is the area with the logs over the pool of water. The wigglers there are much easier to scroll off the screen. You sometimes have to bounce off normal enemies in order to preserve the combo, but this doesn't actually break it - normal enemies will give you 1-ups, and wigglers will continue giving you absurd amounts of points and coins.

  • Bye mario!

  • you rule!!!!!!!!!! love frm the middle easT

  • "and yes that is a 5-up.. in case you don't have hypercount.."

  • ulillillia, can I have your children?

  • I'm highly unlikely to have children in the first place. I don't want any.

  • Haha, nice. The program's incrementing through a list of 'bonuses' to give instead of being bounded at 1 up, so we know this is all sequential in storage. After the 20 coin bonus we know that it's reading data meant for something else and interpreting it as an effect, since the '25 coin bonus' makes the score go berzerk. The glitch seems to be harmless, though, as it only reads data into values that handle overflow (unless it's possible to get a negative score and crash from it)

  • It's apparently unsigned. I haven't seen anything beyond 655,350 points. That zero is actually "fake" and 65,535 is the limit of a 16-bit unsigned value. Being unsigned, a negative score is impossible. I think you get a maximum of 255 coins (unsigned 8-bit value) in a bop too. Reading memory outside the program's bounds, while a bug, is usually harmless. It's writing that's harmful.

  • This is my new fav vid of yours. Do some more Super Mario World videos if you find any other neat stuff .

  • wow... why can't you land? i have not played this game in ages i forgot the rules

  • If you land, the scoring is reset and you have to go through the effort of getting the big chain again. You can see evidence of this in the intro part of this level.

  • wow

  • When did you start playing Super Mario World, Ulillillia?

  • Around June 3 is about the time. This video has been ready for uploading since June 5, but YouTube's bugs got to me, preventing any uploading (there was no browse button or anything).

  • Wow. I never knew the score could go so high. One way that i get easy lives is just camp on the level with lakitu when he throws the spike things. Theres an area that has a dip and it allows the shell to bounce back and forth between the two walls. When the Cloud Lakitu and Pipe Lakitu throws out those spike things, the shell hits them and the points keep stacking on. And lives

  • That's in those secret levels (with the "special" background) that I only recently found. Until about 3 days ago, I never knew they existed. I find Star Road 3 the best place for lives. There's another bug you can exploit though for even faster, cheap lives here. You get a coin, but get credit for it twice! If you read the description, I stated that, to max the score within 8 minutes, you'd need one of those 8000 scores every 0.384 seconds....

  • Coolest thing ever! I'm actually going to try this out right now.

  • you keep blowing my mind every day!

  • Rated 5. (I did that deliberately.)

  • That was too awesome. Ulillia is the best.

  • I never even knew what the score limit was, since I never hit it before. LOL. Pretty funny that it's easy to reach within only 8 minutes considering that I'd never gotten anywhere near it after having played for a long time.

  • Using other methods outside this, it takes several hours of constant big scores - bopping those turtles endlessly to the 8000 point is the closest you'll get, but even then, it's at least 3 hours (as I've experienced with Mario 3).

  • instructive video six stars

  • WE DONT NEED THE YOSHI NOOOOOOOO
