  • THE FINEST HAND ACTING ON ALL OF THE INTERNET

  • Heh heh, great video! Informative and amusing at the same time. Your highly animated hands alone have got a lot more personality than a lot of TV presenters I can think of!

  • @MrThunderwing Thanks.

  • Saw this video for first tIME

Lol this guy is great. Hilarious. I. Am subscribing

  • Nice, educational video! Might have to pick this up, though I like my VGA pretty well. My TV only does 720p so I don't need the HDMI 1080p conversion, this might be worth the $38. I only wish that Plasma Sword, one of my personal favorite DC games, worked with the VGA box, grrrr. I'm eager to see Soul Calibur and Toy Commander all spruced up!

  • RF is for retards...HAHA

  • Picked up my Sports Black Dreamcast today.....just ordered up all the parts for my 720P :) Guys if you are wondering just get the VGA cable off Ebay (about $25) and they have the video converter on Amazon for $38 the company that makes it is Linkstyle

  • FUCK!!! Why'd you make this video? Now I have to go buy all this shit. Thanks.....I guess.

  • @MalcolmXcellent Happy to help. You may want to consider an HDMI converter. I did a video on that too.

  • @AdamKoralik Oh ok cool. I'll go check that out too.

  • Seems like a nice product. Hate for it to be a unitasker though.

Having your hand in front of the screen for more than a full minute when starting off was annoying as all hell btw.

  • @malignantpoodle Good, now you know how I feel when I read comments like this.

  • @AdamKoralik You can upscale an image to be 720p with an upscaling device. Just because it's upscaled doesn't mean the image is interlaced. So by saying this my point is this is not true 720!

  • @Leoooonard I know its not true 720p, I said that in the video...

  • @AdamKoralik Oh shit sry , didnt hear that :( Well cant hate anyways since i do love the sega systems!

  • can you post a video of street fighter 3 double impact in 720p please i just want to see if it looks pixelated in that mode that's all?

  • Nice, planning to pick this up soon. I'm pretty satisfied with my VGA box personally, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a better picture quality, especially since it isn't that expensive.

I know that you're a huge fan of Shenmue. I picked up my copy in great condition for $30 recently and I'm very eager to see what the fuss is about. But I'm gonna wait until I get this converter box before playing it for the first time.

  • @MindlessMiles You're in for a treat, just be patient with the game. Its an in depth story, its not an action game.

  • @MindlessMiles

Both my TVs have VGA, then I have a VGA to s-video converter for DVD recorders, capture cards, and older TVs.

Now all I have to get is a Dreamcast VGA adapter.

    :)

  • @Sismiques

One of these might come in handy too.

  • did you try street fighter 3 double impact in 720p if not can you post a video of it.also if you could do resident evil 2 and 3 as well that be great thanks.

  • @batman200 If it works with the VGA adapter, which I'm fairly certain it does, then it'd work with this.

  • Hey adam, got my hd converter but have a strange problem that no one can help me with. when i set my box to 420p or 720p the screen flickers but on 1080i it does not. still looks awsome but i wanted 720p.. any ideas would be much appriciated... thanks

  • @tecnikturbo Sounds like the cables are lose or something. I don't know, I never experienced that issue.

  • Hey Adam, does your converter work with your PAL Dreamcasts as well? I live in Australia and would like to get one of these for my setup. The difference in power plugs and voltage I can get around but I need to know if it will work with a PAL signal. Cheers.

  • @TheBigClaw It should. The Dreamcast VGA box works fine with my European Dreamcast. So, my guess is that output would work. But I haven't actually tested it.

  • why do you talk with your hands

  • @RenegadeFury Just expressive I suppose.

  • @RenegadeFury His cousin is Thing from Addams Family

  • Hey bro, great vid on that beautiful picture! I just had a question. I'm confused as to whether or not i still need a VGA box (with) this device. Should I buy both of em?

  • @Scumbizzly Yes, you'd need both devices.

  • @AdamKoralik Thanks bro, I think you figured out the best picture yet!

  • @Scumbizzly I'm going to try a VGA to HDMI adapter soon.

  • @AdamKoralik I'm surprised you didnt try that route yet. I saw another vid on here and it didnt look as crisp as the 720P on yours, but maybe you can find one with a selector.

  • @Scumbizzly Well I went this route because I simply wanted to be able to capture the video footage. Capturing HDMI footage is not easy.

  • @AdamKoralik Well if I can snag one that will allow me to select 720P I might get one too, im sure it will look excellent.

  • @Scumbizzly The one I'm looking at claims to support 1080p.

  • haha great video, nice humor!

  • What if my TV does have a VGA input? Is the HD converter box useless, and should I just stick with just the VGA box?

  • @gretschdrummer100 I have a VGA port too. That will look good, this will look better.

  • Does this thing work with other consoles?

  • @srwZatBAHIMZETO If those consoles have VGA output, then I assume it would.

  • How can this setup truly attain 720p? wouldn't the games themselves have to be coded in 720p? Were any at that time?

  • @stradlemonkey444 Like I said in the video, its not true 720p. Its upscaled.

  • Are all VGA boxes the same? eBay has like 20 different kinds..

  • @therichisgood I only have the one made by Performance, so I can't honestly say the others are any better or worse.

  • In Europe, every TV has a VGA connection so that we can plug our computers into our TV.

  • Glorious.

  • MFW you sound like deadmau5

    :O

  • If I get this, I always have adjust the settings every time I want to play the DREAMCAST? And why can't I just get the computer cable and plug it in? If I have that white thing and a PC cable and a HD TV why can't I do that?

  • @DarkGaiaFiend Yes, you'd have to adjust it, which is easy.

And you can just do that. The whole point of this is going from 480p to 720p.

  • @AdamKoralik: how does it fare with the N64 ? I was looking into the SLG3000 which seems pretty popular and allows the user to add scanlines

  • @Paperclown The N64 doesn't have VGA out so it wouldn't work with this.

  • This isn't pushing the Dreamcast to 720p it is just up converting it.

  • @duckfield I know, I said that in the video.

  • Shenmue! Still got a hand on that! 1 and 2! Best game ever!

  • Thanks man GOT IT! I will order these parts.

  • @AdamKoralik ok i will be honest, i just bought my new Dreamcast and all i know it brings the component cables (YRW) since i dont know about this setup much. If you can private me what i have to buy based on my new Sony PS3 LED TV. I really want my dreamcast to look like this since my monitor is beast. All i know is that i have Component with R/L, 2HDMI and Headphone jack. Please help me i buy anything to play my classic games like shenmue, sega bass fshing, resident evil, parasite eve ect... Tha

  • wat better place to get DREAMCAST? Ebay or Amazon????

a full complete DC with all wires and controller?

  • @ndgh209 I prefer EBay for used videogame purchases.

  • Adam, i sold my Samsung that had VGA but now i have the PS3 Sony 3D Display will i be available to do this on my new monitor? It only has HDMI and Component cables plus a headphone jack. Let me know and nce setup man.

  • @Willo3G Well if you have component, then yes, you can use this. However you could also try a VGA to HDMI converter.

  • @Willo3G I had a box that took VGA/Component and upscaled/converted to HDMI. The VGA box i had for my Dreamcast was a dud, however, the component worked. So i used my original XBox and overall it worked pretty well. Based on my experience this would work fine.

  • I have a flat screen tube tv that has a Component video input, but the tv can only display 480i, would the VGA box + HD converter work?

  • @facemischief If the TV can't display above 480i, then this won't work.

  • remenber that not all games supported the vga box

  • one of the best video you ever made in the year 2012. The youtube video of this year is already taken.

  • @hardmancanada I hate to point out that I made this in 2011. But thanks.

  • wow... so getting a HD converter is better than VGA? gonna try it in my Dreamcast n_n

  • @Edyxu2 In my humble opinion, yes. But a VGA to HDMI converter might be better.

  • How does this converter compare to using your TV's native VGA input?

  • @brobert1451 I prefer this, however I would assume a VGA to HDMI converter would look a little better than this.

  • If I plug component cables into my HD PVR (my PVR being plugged into my HD TV) and record would it look this good?

  • @ONLYUSEmeFEET Yes, thats how I recorded this footage.

  • Lol, all of my HD TV's have VGA's.

  • *rushes off to amazon to get the equipment*

  • I have that tv, that Dreamcast and Shenmue 1 & 2.... BOOOOM!!!!!

  • HAHA how funny my little 16 inch television just happens to have a vga connection and 720p hd YEAH!

  • green controllers are my favorite.

  • my family has a 55" inch smart tv with vga

  • Could you have a look at my Jet Grind Radio LP and tell me if it looks better than it would if I used this method to record it? Thanks in advance if you do.

  • @AdventureAndySnM If you're using real hardware, then this is the best. But that video looks to be in widescreen so I'm guessing you played it on an emulator.

  • @AdamKoralik I did play it on an emulator, and I'm essentially asking if I did this would it look better?

  • @AdventureAndySnM I haven't used the emulator. So I really can't say. I would assume if the emulator is running perfectly (I hate emulators personally) then the emulator probably looks better.

  • @AdamKoralik yeah, i only do it for the sake of good quality, i honestly prefer playing on the console.

  • The only HDTV I have seen that hasn't had a vga connection was on a big fat screen HDTV.

  • Meh, you're not crazy.. I'd want VGA, too. It's incredibly useful!

  • wow you must hate the english voice acting though i can understand. ahhhh good-ryu

  • Back when I first got the original Dreamcast, I was stuck in Salt Lake City, UT for the Jobcorps and we only had TVs with RF. I didn't mind cause the game was so amazing, it was worth playing in any video signal.

Later I got to play using the VGA adapter.

  • I'm still stuck with the RF Unit but i might go out and buy this soon

  • Does this create input lag? I would get this specifically for zero gunner 2 component capturing, and its a shmup.

  • @MightySquirrel No, there is no lag during play.

  • @AdamKoralik

Fantastic. I should be able to get the setup soon, I can't wait for some glorious 720p Zero Gunner 2 :D

  • @MightySquirrel You might also want to look in to a VGA to HDMI box. I think I'll be doing a video on that next.

  • @AdamKoralik Hey great video fella, i just recieved my hd converter havn't hooked it up yet just trying to decide weather to connect to my tv using vga or componet what do ya think? thanks....

  • @tecnikturbo I'd suggest trying both and deciding which you prefer.

  • I cant find a box like your one. I found a VGA to HDMI box. Do you think i'll get good results if I bought that or its better to find a VGA to composite box?

  • @tingfung01 It sold out like a few minutes after I made this video. I've considered getting a VGA to HDMI adapter to try that myself. I just haven't been motivated enough yet to spend the money. The reason I did this, honestly, was just so I could capture the footage since I can't capture VGA or HDMI footage.

  • shenmue 3 announced 8=D~~

  • @ParanoiaGentlman I wish, I'd have "Wack-Fest 2012" if it was.

  • @AdamKoralik yeah Mr.suzuki needs the rights from the Sega to develop it he has the story written up chapter 11

  • I LMAO when I saw the 480i and RF Shenmue II versions. Cool always trying to bring the Dreamcast in HD eh Adam? And where do you shop when looking for Flat Screen TVs? Every flat screen TV I've had has had VGA computer connections. Tube TVs (actual television sets) are very hard to find with a VGA connection, aside from being a monitor.

  • @crazyhitlover It seems VGA has made a bit of a come back, but there was a phase there, sadly while I was working on this, where it was vanishing.

  • I got this to work but couldnt get it to work through the component cables it worked through my VGA port on my Samsung LCD..So how would u transfer the signal through the component not the VGA?

  • @Waxxers Well, the box itself is supposed to do that. Perhaps your box is malfunctional?

  • @AdamKoralik Or maybe i hooked it up wrong?I cant say I had the dreamcast going through input, had the the the samsung lcd on output, and had the component hooked up through one of my hd selector it worked only on 480/600 on the PC section I cant say

  • @Waxxers Yeah, maybe. Just try it again. From step one.

  • @AdamKoralik Will do thanks this video made me take he leap of faith with that so i hope it will work

  • @Waxxers It should, there is no real reason why it wouldn't work if you set it up correctly.

  • Another great adam koralik dreamcast video!

  • i hope sega back like old days

  • 2:25 You forgot blue-and-white, for all your UK subscribers and viewers. :)

  • I tried a set up like this back when i had my HDTV. My HD box thing can use component/Vga to HDMI, that box works, as i tested it with the original XBox with component. My VGA box for Dreamcast was dead on arrival sadly

  • where i can buy it! i need for my DC!

  • i want one of these for my 3DO please help

  • Where can i find one from the uk???? no one seems to sell em....

  • lol we have the same TV

  • omg just get to the point... fk

  • really? every lcd tv i seen in stores seems to have vga now.

  • @james42519 It seems to be making a bit of a comeback.

  • i want that green controller

    lol lots of led mods

    yay

  • Does anybody else want to give him crap for saying this is sooo HDish?! >=(

  • This guy is funny as Fuck

  • dude i don't mind people's opinions but really you bash on RF WAY!!! to much i still play my dreamcast in RF and ive compared it multiple times to AVI or VGA and sure they look better but i don't give a damn its better then swaping out about 30 to 40 different cords just to play it. and personally i think VGA is stupid to use if i was to use it it would be for my hd monitor and not my fucking television

  • nonsense, almost every hd screen today has a vga connector

  • @RETRONGAMES79 HD screens yes, big HD TVs, not as much.

  • @AdamKoralik i meant big hd tv's, like mine which is 2 years old samsung 40" lcd it has vga, mate every hd tv today has vga. really is silly what you did

  • @RETRONGAMES79 VGA ports on big HD TVs aren't super common in the States unfortunately. That might be it.

  • @AdamKoralik really i am in usa and seem to see them a lot.

  • @AdamKoralik I fell in love with a HUGE Mitsubishi 80" DLP that was reasonably priced. And the first thing I thought of was, how I wanted to pair my awesome little DC with this beautiful large display. And then I saw that it had NO VGA connection. It's not even an option on any Mitsu DLP!

So, because my DC comes first, I bagged on getting the purdy DLP.

But now, with your adaptor discovery and info, I will get to see my little-white-box-of-awesomeness display in all its 80" glory.

  • @SwankeyMonkey Awesome dude, glad I could help.

  • @RETRONGAMES79 it's not as common in the USA, I have one HDTV without VGA.

  • @RETRONGAMES79 I just bought a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma HDTV and it doesnt have a VGA port on it.

  • @SegaFanatic5188 because you are a douche, very simple

  • @SegaFanatic5188 who da fuck buys plasma today? you are buying some shitty 4 year old tv, thats why moron

  • @RETRONGAMES79 Actually it's a model that came out this year. The reason I went with a plasma was because it was one of the few models in my price range that didn't have a complete crap out when I sent it a low res signal from an older video game system and had no noticeable input lag. That's why moron.

  • @SegaFanatic5188 eat crap and die

  • @RETRONGAMES79 My, how mature you are. Your parents must be so proud of you.

  • @SegaFanatic5188 well they are at least comfortable with the LED i bought them, no shitty plasma for them...

  • @RETRONGAMES79 That's nice. Tell me how well it handles a 240p signal and how bad it's input lag is.

  • @SegaFanatic5188 in that tv, there is nothing at 240p, not even youtube, as far as i can tell there is no lag at all, not from satellite, or from the bluray player, or form the appletv.

  • @RETRONGAMES79 Yes because you can clearly measure input lag from something that requires little to no input at all.

As for 240p, hook up an old system like a Sega Genesis or an SNES and see what happens. Many HDTVs see this as 480i which results in a multitude of problems such as choppy framerate, jittery picture, and odd artifacts.

  • Comment removed

  • @SegaFanatic5188 for old consoles, and any console, Plasma tvs are the best

they work well with any kind of resolution always showing a great quality, even when receiving high or low resolution, the quality is always good.

and LCD, LED only works well if you receive signal resolution equal to its native resolution, if you receive signal below its native resolution, they destroy the image quality with blurry jaggies, etc. laags.

Plasma has always been better than LCD, LED

  • @TheFred128 Plasma TVs have fixed resolutions, just as LCDs. If you want to have non-interpolated variable resolutions, you have to use a CRT or some other analog panel device.

  • @81kingtut I like the plasmas, they work well with all types of resolution, low and high

and are good with older consoles as well.

but lcd, led only shows a good quality image to receive a signal with a resolution equal to its native resolution, and if the LCD, LED has a native resolution of 720p only going to be really good if you get 720p or higher, if only native 1080p will be good if you get 1080p, or very close.

  • Dude you're crazy now, ;/, lol...

  • hello! how does vga direct to tv compare to this 720 component connection? great video btw. DREAMCST FOR LIFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • @neoknux009 Its pretty similar, personally I prefer the 720p upscaled image. The color is better.

  • The saturation of colors :Q zomg. Looks very nice.

  • *gives crap* the benefit of this setup is that ur viewing 480p rather than 480i.

  • 480i is washed out and blurry, 720p is sharper and more colorful.

  • where did you get the pc to component adapter? i can't find it on amazon

  • @ANDYxHAMILL Well, I got it on Amazon. They sold out pretty quickly after I made this video unfortunately.

  • Shenmue was the reason i bought the dreamcast back in the days !!!

  • wouldn't it be easier to get a scart-to-hdmi adapter and then plug a hdmi-to-component cable into the adapter?

  • @ANDYxHAMILL SCART doesn't exist in North America, so no.

  • @AdamKoralik but in england where there is scart would it work?

  • @ANDYxHAMILL I don't know, I can't test it.

  • @ANDYxHAMILL If you could get a SCART to HDMI adapter, why would you then change if back to an inferior analogue signal by then converting it to component?

  • @nekomacouk i'm thinking for recording with a roxio where you need component cables!

  • do you need the code breaker if you're using component? does living in england change anything?

  • @ANDYxHAMILL I don't think it would change anything. The box would probably require a step down (or step up) converter though because the electrical standard is different.

  • schrodingers youtube video! for you, in the past, at least. are there any of vga--> component boxes that are purely analogue electronics with no digital scalers? because really the minimum you need to convert vga to component is some op-amps and flat panel scalers are usually better than the cheap scaler electronics in these boxes.

  • @milkkart There might be, I honestly don't know. This is the only one I have.

  • my vizio from 2 years ago even has a vga

  • I was scared when I saw the box. :/

  • Just watched this and I bought one before the video was done playing to add to my vga adapter that I got the day before watching this. Both items will be mounted internally once the stuff comes in the mail. Gotta hate living on a ranch at times.

  • A lot of TVs have VGA in. I used mine when I had the Arcade Xbox 360 that had no HDMI out.

  • Now I should go to China.

    Bitches.

  • I always see HDTVs with VGA. Made sure mine had it too lol .

  • I have never seen an hdtv without vga input
