Gregor Mendel is considered as the «father» of Genetics. His experiments with pea plant hybrids and honeybees helped scientists understand the laws of Inheritance.
Nice video-especially good covering GM's education (many sources paint him an "amateur.") A few corrections: 1. GM was a friar, not a monk. Monks are cloistered; friars are involved in the world. It was because he was an Augustinian FRIAR that GM was able to get the education he did and the freedom to do his experiments. 2. There is no evidence GM sent a copy of his paper to Darwin. Google around and you will find articles by the archivist of Darwin's papers debunking this.
@larrytv Abiogenesis and Evolution is a lie, Its Indoctrination, they thought a cell could form in a warm mud puddle!! If they only knew homochirality! Life from non life is chemically and mathematically impossible!
@HackneyEquine wikipedia isn't trustworthy. anyone can go on there and edit it. my literature teacher goes on there and changes dates just to mess with his students when they go on there
actually darwin and medel had met but darwin couldn't understand the simple mathematics of mendel's theories... coz biologists back then weren't good in maths. so mendel was not given his importance back then
I've heard speculation of such but to be quite honest, I doubt it until I can read the letter in question.
If they DID meet, I would suggest that a simple viewing of Mendel's garden with a 5 minute explanation would be enough elucidation for even the worst of us at math.
I'm from Chile and tomorrow 12-10-2008, I HAVE MY FINAL EXAMEN IN ENGLISH INTERPRETATION AND THE topic is "Gregore Mendel". This nice because I think this video has helped me a lot.
oh, i love genetics too and that's the reason why i study genetics and molecular biology. actually, i study in Brno - place where Mendel worked and lived. isn't it cool?
i love genetics i plan to keep with it i am really good genetics and i loved this video... most seventeen year old girls couldn't sit though this or want to. I loved it and am going to ask my teacher to show it in class.thanks.
I do not have the time to watch 30 minuets of this guys life.

It is common knowledge today that Mendel fudged his experiments.

If I had a time machine, I would go back to 1859 and introduce Mendel to Darwin. Imagine what we'd know right now if those two minds had met then...
