This IS the Wille Dixon band and the orig cut, and Charles Clark does it well, as a kinda sweet blues.. and there is a version of WD singing it somewhere, not bad and no doubt from the heart, but...well...Wolf rocks it to its core and someday I will put up a far better photo Wolf and I did that matches the song, that gaunt smoking after car accident/dialysis requirement etc image disturbs and saddens me and is more sickness than blues.. but some think the misery is just cool etc... jeez..
Clark recorded this in Chicago in 1958, thanks to Willie Dixon. 1500 (Hidden Charms), 1501(Row Your Boat). Artistic is one of Dixon's labels. Helluva backup band: It IS Sonny Boy Williamson on harp; Harold Burrage ("Betty Jean," Cobra), piano; & Otis Rush, guitar; Louis Myers is on guitar for RYB. HC is on Mr Dixon's Workshop, Fuel 2000 Records. Wonderfully original takes, at least in my opinion--maybe a bit too R&R & novelty-like for blues purists but good stuff to me.
Otis Rush on guitar! This is on a LP compilation from 30 years ago or so. Charles also sings "Row Your Boat". I think. Yes, sounds like Sonny Boy(Rice Miller).
Actually I think this is the first recording of Hidden Charms, from about '58. Before Howlin' Wolf did it. And that's gotta be Sonny Boy Williamson on the harp.

This orig version is VERY good, but the Mighty Wolf owns it and Hubert Sumlin's guitar is especially uh...special

Originally a Willie Dixon tune, I first heard it on The Kojak Variety by Elvis Costello. This is a truly great version!! Thanks for posting!
