I have always loved U2. Most if not all of their songs have a reference about God or the bible. I think it is great that he can reach the masses with a subtle message. He is not afraid to love God even those who don't believe. Listen to a guy named Rich Mullins, one of the most successful Christian music artists. He took a vow of poverty, lived on an Indian Resevation and gave all of his money to them. That is a man of God. Amen

I have been one of U2's harshest critics. The Yahweh video is and McPhisto aka the devil was non-Christian. Still, U2 at least makes an effort to give a message of hope that is for the most part in line with the Bible. U2's music is up beat. Very refreshing change from so much of the secular music today that is so non-Christian and negative. Another thing, they are 4 guys who are all happily married and not washed out like so many rock stars. My point is there is a lot worse out there.

@tylerhamlet I understand where you are coming from, but the Catholics that I have known have been actual born again Christians. In any denomination, you have those that are true to their faith and those who just attend church for show, I guess. Like, I'm a Baptist who tries to live my life according to Jesus' teachings, but there are some people who attend my church and then never want to do any outreach. They just come to be entertained and "do their time" so to speak. It makes me sad.

I think worship is recognizing God in all His beauty, majesty, love, power, and remembering that He's saved us from sin and death, and graciously changes His children more into His image daily. You don't have to sing to do that. If Bono's heart is really recognizing Jesus (and no man can be the judge of that) then yes, this is worship.
I personally feel the Holy Spirit when I listen to a lot of their music. Their music is very reverent and (important to me) authentic. No pat answers.

@TheChoice264 sometimes i question my faith, but i generally stick with it. In the Gospels there is a man whose son is possessed, and he comes to Jesus and asks Him to cast out the demon. I think Jesus asks him if he believes and the guy says, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" I feel sometimes i can relate to that. Part of me believes and part of me is unsure sometimes. But i think it's better to think about what i believe and why than to never think about that at all.

Somewhere along the way it got changed to " no man comes to the Father EXCEPT THROUGH me.". You change that one word,"BY" and make it "THROUGH", it changes the entire meaning and teaching.

I have always loved U2. Most if not all of their songs have a reference about God or the bible. I think it is great that he can reach the masses with a subtle message. He is not afraid to love God even those who don't believe. Listen to a guy named Rich Mullins, one of the most successful Christian music artists. He took a vow of poverty, lived on an Indian Resevation and gave all of his money to them. That is a man of God. Amen

I have been one of U2's harshest critics. The Yahweh video is and McPhisto aka the devil was non-Christian. Still, U2 at least makes an effort to give a message of hope that is for the most part in line with the Bible. U2's music is up beat. Very refreshing change from so much of the secular music today that is so non-Christian and negative. Another thing, they are 4 guys who are all happily married and not washed out like so many rock stars. My point is there is a lot worse out there.

And they are very pore at making despises of there congregations many of whom check in then check out the rest of the week. Not to mention the teaching of unbiblical doctrine such as Mary being without sin. In any denomination, you have those that are true to their faith and those who just attend church for show, I guess. Like, I'm a Baptist who tries to live my life according to Jesus' teachings, but there are some people who attend my church and then never want to do any outreach. They just come to be entertained and "do their time" so to speak. It makes me sad.

I think worship is recognizing God in all His beauty, majesty, love, power, and remembering that He's saved us from sin and death, and graciously changes His children more into His image daily. You don't have to sing to do that. If Bono's heart is really recognizing Jesus (and no man can be the judge of that) then yes, this is worship.
I personally feel the Holy Spirit when I listen to a lot of their music. Their music is very reverent and (important to me) authentic. No pat answers.

@TheChoice264 sometimes i question my faith, but i generally stick with it. In the Gospels there is a man whose son is possessed, and he comes to Jesus and asks Him to cast out the demon. I think Jesus asks him if he believes and the guy says, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" I feel sometimes i can relate to that. Part of me believes and part of me is unsure sometimes. But i think it's better to think about what i believe and why than to never think about that at all.

i mean, i belong to an evangelical denomination, and i have known some evangelical conservative Christians to say or believe things that i think are kooky. and some probably would think some things i believe are kooky. and occasionally i have heard another Christian say things i think are downright disturbing...like saying torture is ok, or denying due process ...

@pennypyro42 Bono,of course. To be honest,off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you when or where i heard or read that. I remember in the '80's he said he was watching tv at a hotel in america late at night and he saw a T.V evangelist carrying on and spitting and stomping and all dressed up in a two thousand dollar suit and rolex watch and there were all these sick and old people in the seats handing them all their change,and all the "your healed!" jargon. He said it is sickening.

Anyway, good for you. My problem with Evangelical christianity is their "you are either with us or without us and you will surely burn in hell if you're not with us" stance. I think, U2 distanced themselves from them back in the '80's and live their own version of being a Jesus believer.
