Have flown United Airlines once from Heathrow to JFK and loved it. The best was listening to ATC on their iformation channel pitty other airlines don't do that for instance Virgin or BA seems only US carriers do that.

there was no scanner, the reason you can hear atc communications is because some airlines have the option for you to listen in on the atc using the headphones. they are usually on newer airliners such as the 777. on united airlines its on channel 9
