Don't forget the assassination attempt on Hitler's life with the briefcase bomb. After that he was extra paranoid (his doctor already was poisoning him with cocaine eyedrops and amphetamine shots), and never trusted his commanders ever again.
You guys don't know what you're talking about. Hilter adopted Manstein's plan for the invasion of france. He was so successful in poland and especially france that he thought his intuition was superior to generalship. If he hadn't had such early success he might have let his generals make decisions- at least until that assassination attempt. Hilter did a great job until Russia. He didn't attack at Dunkirk becasue he thought preserving the brittish army would lead to a peace agreement
Alright Mister Hitler. We know an attack is coming within the month on the French coasts Calais or Normandy and our intelligence suggests that the attack on Normandy is a decoy. Shall we keep our tanks on the Calais beach? Shall we keep the tanks along the northern French coast in case they attack somewhere else?
@15GamingGuy Field Marshal Erwin Rommel had a hunch that Normandy might be the landing place for Allied forces, not Calais as Germain High Command expected. That's why the Atlantic Wall was built as a precaution. He also proposed that the German Panzer Tank Divisions should be stationed as close to the coast as possible. However Hitler still believed that Calais was the main Allied objective and the Panzers were stationed there. The Germans were tricked into believing that ruse.
@MrLantean Well, he should have left room for error. Put the Panzer devisions midway between the suspect landing points to be moved upon further intelligence gathered.
@Iraqendwar Hitler was trying to direct the German armed forces from his mountain retreat at Berchtesgaden. He was not on a battlefield where commander could access the situation and came up with best battle plan. His bad decisions had cost the German armed great losess. For example, at Stalingrad, Paulus of the German 6th Army recommended that they should break out before completely encircled by the Soviet troops but Hitler ordered him to hold out as German troops would break in instead.
@MrLantean Haha. Would you say Hitler is an idiot then? I would. Well I guess back in his day, he didn't have the luxury of computers to see what's going on. Thanks for the brief history lesson though =)
@Iraqendwar I doubt that Hitler will be able to direct his armed forces effectively even if he has computers to see what's going on. He kept interfering with his commanders' decisions and demanded that his orders were followed. He did not trust his commanders completely and were always make sure he had full authority over his commanders. His bad decision making had allowed the Allies to gain advantages over the German armed forces.
american soldiers face hell on nomandy, there is no doubt about that, but the germans and the japanese face more hardship because they were the ones being gang rape by all sides of the world....so to say that the americans were so brave at normandy is crap... Compare to what the japanese and germans endure especially after Italy abandon them to fight the world alone
Americans were just a bunch of cry baby bitches who use airstrikes and artillary
@HistoryHmoobGuy but look at the chinese they didnt recieve any help in ww2 when germanys ally the japs and the chinese face them head on with tatics and was out gun in weapons but still hung on even after millions of rape and deaths
@HistoryHmoobGuy So what? That doesnt make the german any more sympathatic for what they did. They murdered millions of innocent people and faced the consequenses.
It would be right if someone had stoped the americans from killing of the indians. But it didn't happen. That doesn't give any other country the right to commit genocide
If you are weak you don't have to pretend to be weak. What you can do is use initiative, maneuver and intellenge to give you an advantage. Another key Sun Tzu talks about is taking control something that is important to your opponent. Make surprise, weather and terrain work for you and you can make your weak force potent.
Don't be silly. He somewhat followed the teachings of Sun Tzu, and made his own intelligent decisions. It was down to a single attack made by him which made him lose altogether.
Besides, you're surprised he was a leader? He was the greatest public speaker in history. If he was british and was on the allies' side, moral would have always been at it's highest, and it's probable that the war would have ended even earlier.
@chingon711 It is usefull in everyday life, for example in business; you are the CEO of a company, and you have a much larger and powerful rival who is the king of your industry... if you pretend to be weak.. he will never pay attention to you, and that's a great thing.. because being the king he would obviously want to protect his position which means he will destroy every menace that appears in front of him (growing companies).. but he will never attack you! YOU ARE WEAK! so then you can...
@chingon711 .. will be able to grow stronger without being detected... seizing your goal, which is to overcome your rival, in this case.. the king company of the industry.
Enough of them faught to survive, others broke, others died. Psychology suggests that there are 2 ways human beings deal with fear, it's known as "Fight or Flight"... Sun Tzu takes "Flight" out of the equation...
the goal for the war in germany in ww2 was revenge on the jews

Then again, the Allies did have complete control of the Air.
Really, the 90% bulk of World War 2 was fought in Russia.
The Soviet Unionreally won World War 2.
At 8:1 losses...

So in other words, Hitler made his structure too fucking complicated. That kind of system would cause a fallout among his allies.

“If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.”
how does this apply everyday life? it seems you would be at a disadvantage following this verse.
