  • @bshalcomb Thanks, hopefully our recent rains will bring the water level back to normal and 2012 will give even better results.

  • @FishingTexan Last I checked it was only 2 feet low. Is there something I don't know?

  • @bshalcomb I haven't been out for a couple of months but seeing your comment I went by the marina today to have a look. With last night's rain, the lake has recovered to a normal level. Thanks for the info. My last time out, it was down over 5 feet.

  • Really nice fish. Congratulations on what looks like a fun year! I have family that just moved to Mansfield, so I'll be spending a lot of time at Joe Pool Lake starting soon. Care to share the best locations on the lake for these pretty bass? I'd love to hook into some of the monster crappie you found, too! Don't worry, I live far away, so I won't be putting much pressure on your sweet spots. :) Any helpful tips would be much appreciated. -Brad

  • @hasselbrad My friends tease me about spending time with my pet fish since I usually fish at Joe Pool at least once a week. It is 5 minutes from my house to the boat ramp for a nice getaway. I prefer to fish the creek areas because it is quieter and less boat traffic. Walnut Creek on the SW side of the lake is where most of the largemouth bass were caught. My personal best came from this creek at a little over 9lbs. Lynn Creek on the NW side is great for crappie. Enjoy and good luck!

  • Wow, you had some great catches. At least one five pounder a month tells me that is a wonderful fishery. Ever have any luck in some of the other urban DFW lakes: Grapevine, Mountain Creek, Arlington, etc?

  • @Winkiedoodles Thanks! Due to the drought and low water levels in Texas, the boat ramps at Arlington have been closed most of the year. I've had good numbers at Arlington in the past but no large fish. Haven't made it to Grapevine this year but want ot give it a try as smallmouth are in the lake and I have yet to catch one. I make it to Ray Roberts and Whitney occassionally and have good luck as well. However, I catch mostly sand bass and hybrids when I go to these lakes.

  • @FishingTexan You said the magic words: sand bass and hybrids....I was TEXAS BORN (Fished Texoma once) and lived (sorry about this) in Oklahoma for some years and we called White Bass sand bass. Those FishTech lures (not very expensive) are specifically designed for Sandies and Wipers. On some future trip(s) I will locate a school of whites in one of these lakes (not my normal pattern) and do a video on catching them. Love the fight both species put up. Merry Christmas, Don

  • @Winkiedoodles First, thanks for your efforts as a Texas ambassador to our nearby states. I too am Texas born but have been fortunate to do my life's work in the home state. I have been intrigued by the FishTech lures and will give them a try. One of my most memorable trips was with a friend and we found a large school of hybrids and stripers. The action was steady the entire day and my arms were sore and had a few hooks straightened along the way. Merry Christmas, Matt
