As a former varsity wrestler for Bowie {Maryland powerhouse) I don't appreciate the comments made by others not from Maryland. The truth is Maryland wrestlers travel all over the country and perform well regardless of the level of competition. Ask PA , New Jersey or Virginia wrestlers they know what's up! MD wrestlers will compete against any state in an All-Star match and perform well! Believe it!
@gigitigardner I wrestle in PA right now. Yeah we have some really good wrestlers on my HS team, we have a kid in city league who places 2nd in US for his 119 lb weight class.
@kaliedoscopesharinga i wrestle for cary high school in north carolina (20x state champs) and i can personally tell you that we have been working our asses off EVERY DAY after school, break, and weekends so we are going to bring our best.
@iinSenCUrEee same here man we wrestled on thanksgiving day and new years ever I wrestle in NC for southern guilford high school i will have some vids up in an hour or two
For the most part well oficiated match. Green consistently took the action to and played the edge of the match, deserving of the stalling calls. I don't know about the OT call tho, took some balls on the officials part. Prolly the right call tho. Get stalling out of this sport.
Best team in the united states? hahaha, not even close... everyone knows that Blair Academy, NJ is. Sure they may have not lost in 156 meets, but it prob mostly against florida teams. So you help make my point... Sure one solid team can dominate the rest of the state, doesn't make the state as a whole any good.
I believe that it would be more accurate to advertise them as the best in Florida, but not quite the best in the US. St. Paris Graham, Ohio and Blair Academy, NJ are better and have been better for some time. I will give you Brandon is a giant shark, in a very small pond.
With that said, Florida wrestling is very, very weak, compared to the traditional power states such as Ohio, California, Pennsylvania, Illinois and others.
that was just stupid to say. other than grajales, florida is a bitch state. and even grajales aint that great either. the only reason he's had success is because he's been held back about 3 times. and David Taylor would whoop his ass.
obviously you haven't heard of david taylor...he will beat grajales at senior nationals or dream team...and it doesn't matter if "raddaway" beat a college wreslter from the north. there are a bunch of juco and division 3 wrestlers and division 2 wrestlers that he could probably hang with...there may be some, but overall florida kinda blows...but a great place to live.
Collin Palmer, David Taylor, Jerome Robinson, Chris Phillips, Steiber Brothers, Cam Tessari, Zach Neibert, Nick Braschetta, Johnni Dijuluis, Orlando Jones, and many more.
All are ranked top 5 in nations at their weight class, Taylor, Palmer, Jones are all number one in the nation.
The one kid said Flordia kids could win state in Ohio and Iowa, then ps3508a defended Ohio, and I just gave information to the Flordia kid he never heard before.
First off that was a pretty bad call. But more importantly, is that seriously the best that state has to offer and what makes me laugh is the red wrestler actually won two state tournaments.
That was some awful wrestling - and poorly officiated.
Green didn't make an offensive move the entire match. All he did was counter red. It's the responsibility of both wrestlers to initiate action, not just one. The stalling call in OT was the 4th call, not the 1st. Green was blocking, his hips were back, he deserved the final stall call.
that call was stright bullshit the ref only favored Greg Saumenig cause he won states in 06 where he also beat sean mcCarty but this match sean definitely should of won
those guys have worked way to hard to get to that spot! to have a ref decide based on stalling. As the 2 of them cirlce, countless moves are going through thier minds, they are the best 2 in the state, and they didn't get there by stalling. it would be different if one was not doing anything. but both wrestlers socred offensive points. hitting both with stall points in my opionion was ok. "make them work" but you dont end an overtime state final with stall points. isnt that in refereeing 101?
What did you want the ref to do? Disappoint the thousands of people who came to watch him by letting the wrestlers decide the match? I don't think so!
yes that was very very very bad.. he took one step bak and was circling at the same time..that ref jus wanted to get the match over with..just rediculous.. mistakes arent suppose to be mad at the state level like that..and where was the other refs opinion on this..jus horrible.
i agree it was bad call and you dont end an overtime state final match with a stalling call but greg was also hit with some bad stalling calls ive seen greg wrestle a million times he dont stall
matches shouldnt be left in the refs hands. Ive learned that the hard way in regions (same as this incident kind of)

they got their first loss last year in 156 meets.

Florida really does have better wrestlers than they are givin credit for.
Maybe not teams as a whole but about every team has 2 or 3 great wrestlers some of which i beleive could win state in Ohio or Iowa.
RefuseToLose863 2 years ago
that was just stupid to say. other than grajales, florida is a bitch state. and even grajales aint that great either. the only reason he's had success is because he's been held back about 3 times. and David Taylor would whoop his ass.
ps3508a 2 years ago
Um grajales is #1 in the nation his hs team is ranked #20 in the nation.
David Craig is also a beast from florida along with the Cozarts.
Hell Psalms Raddaway from kathleen only took 3rd in 1a states and he beat pinned a college wrestler from the north and beast another by points.
He also beat a Utah State champ.
Now think about it if we have 1A Juniors who can dominate State champs and college wrestlers from the north and they only took 3rd.
We must have some badass wrestlers.
RefuseToLose863 2 years ago

Taylor cant beat grajales.
&its been a long sought match that will happen hopefully.
BUT grajales is gonna tech him.
hes already pinned the #1 ranked 140 in penn. & he bumped up to do it. Taylor is gonna be a walk in the park.
RefuseToLose863 2 years ago
I am absoutly dumbfounded reading that comment.
Taylor beat Collin Palmer the #1 ranked 140 pounder in the nation! And Taylor bumped up to wrestle him!
If anyone got teched it would be grajales.

How did a discussion of David Taylor, Florida, Juco, Eric Grajales and Ohio end up on this video's comments. Just curious.
