Only Jim is called An American Poet. I know also Jim was uncomfortable with this issue.They were the perfect complement, no doubt. All of them great musicians. But if you like to know Jim Morrison, his psyche, mind and persona to understand why he was who he was on stage and his works, you need to take Jim as "a subject apart of the band". I had been a fan for 27 yrs now. And I'm sure the band knew their lead singer was "ONE OF A KIND"

Jim was the incarnation of his poetry.He lived what he wrote like no one, even knowing the high price he will need to pay. He loved been a rock star and the band as much he loved solitude, his poetry and his books.He had motivations and views that the rest didn't understand. He was part and so apart at the same time.
