  • Damnit, why did i ever have to find out about this song... now everytime i hear it i fucking cry... god damnit Kevin Moore... why did you put such emotion in your songs..

  • this is moore's masterpiece and this is one of the greatest songs ever been written in history!!!

  • this song actually has a whole to it, unlike most of the DT songs whitch is more like a cut and paste- compositions.. Rudess not bad, but I must say I like this shit better.. then again I dont listen much to DT any more..

  • I mean in The Mirror the guitar riff was simple as could be, but KM added such passion with the keys that it came alive, while JR has taken up more of a background guitarist at times, playing the alongside the guitar but rarely adding any variety. JR just leaves something to be desired, hes more a showman than a visionary, playing complex pieces but losing the soul behind it in trade. On backs of angels and dissapear are just some of the few songs he shines in. if he made lyrics it might get up

  • This makes me miss KM, Rudess is an excellent player, but he lacks passion in his playing, which I'm hoping with MP being gone JR will step up emotionally and JM will find his poetic side once more, since now we are left with all JP lyrics which no offense but JP is going to need some R&R if he is to continue at the rate he is going. The recent works of DT have a distanced feel to it as the lyrics and music are either hit or miss, such as in Ministries of lost soul's solo, which was out of place

  • 2.239 Likes and 20 dislikes !!!!!! :))))))

  • The part where you hear that guy talking (2:04 - 2:39) was taken from A Room With A View. Fail on DT's part. But great song.

  • @ThatCheapDrummer Why is that a fail?

  • Most epic and moving song ever. This song always makes me relaxed. To bad Kevin refuses to perform it live with DT

  • Its this or Mad world from the Donnie Darko movie that touches my senses as a man, beautiful heart. Well, now Im gonna go into a state of despair for listening to this, sadness starts.

  • you know i gotta say i am not a huge KM fan but this song is pretty good. The main thing that i don't like is how deep reverb is on JL's vocals.

  • I don't give a damn about what people are going to think about my comment; but for me, Kevin Moore was the best keyboardist on the band!

I mean, besides this masterpiece made of pure awesomeness and his excellent creativity, he was a key member in the best-selling album of Dream Theater to date = Images and Words.

  • By far the best thing Dream Theater ever did/ For people that prefer real emotion over gallons of wack-a-doodle noodling.

  • Forever alone: The song

  • it s more than fantastic..........one gus skin follow the next.... best regards from Germany..

  • amazing music---shouting out for the Bahai;s of IRAN!!!!

  • uh great song

  • People named Kevin are problematic for Dream Theater.

  • there is none to take blame. if they want to. there is nothing to keep me sane and it's all the same to you. there is none to set my aim so i'm every where...

  • This song is so simple and so amazing... Just a few notes, but it makes me feel sad inmediately. Incredibly beautiful.

  • 19 people are G@Y!

  • everytime that i listen to this song i cry manly tears

  • This song is so... sad and beautiful, I love it T^T

  • Oh, well seems like I was wrong ^_^

    Sorry 'bout that folks!

  • I can get lost in the song.

  • The one and only song they never EVER played live...

  • @Booboorella They already played!

  • @Booboorella /watch?v=1j65jqO2fRs

  • @Booboorella Incorrect! They played it in January of 2011. There is a video of it on youtube, just search "Space Dye Vest Live" and it'll come up.

  • @PinkBird3 I don't think that they were performed at this live as Dream Theater, but as James La Brie and Jordan Rudess...

  • @jimtzikis It's as close as you're going to get. :(

  • Second best DT song after A Change of Seasons.

  • Sorry to burst any bubbles, but this song isn,t at all written by Dream Theater. It was completely written by Kevin Moore, who was the keyboardist for the band at the time. they wouldn't have included the song in the album if they would've known that Kevin was going to quit the band after they released the album. He quit with no notice and the song was kept only because the album was already released with this track on it...

  • @Aenemenate it's still one of their best songs although! No matter who wrote it, it was published as dream theater's job, and indeed it was! As you said he was their keyboardist ;)

  • @Aenemenate Yes, but he wrote it to be a Dream Theater song. He could've released it as his solo work, but he chose to do it under the name of DT. And regardless of what the artist is called, this is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.

  • the live version is good but not as beutiful as the original

rudess made the live version a little too complicated

  • if u r in love n are listening to this song thumbs up .

  • Anyone who has been in a failed relationship, anyone at all, cannot be unmoved by this great song. For all that people talk about the wondrous feeling of first love nobody talks about the misery of your first breakup. It is a reminder of mortality, a cruel message that love doesn't last forever as much as you might want it to. It never will be the same again even if you find greater happiness later. You'll always hold back a little, the next time around. You'll never really be open again.

  • @etomlins4 Sad but true ;( And I'll never be open again....

  • @etomlins4

i don't know, you just kinda spoke for a lot of people, some of which may disagree. what you say is not wrong, but its not a universal truth, only true for you due to your experiences, and so no one can call you incorrect or wrong, but you can't prance around like its the same for everyone

  • @etomlins4 and no one could have said anything better. If I could "thumb up" your post a hundread times, I would do it.

  • Everybody please look up Chroma Key right now if you already haven't. Thank you. Kevin Moore's post-DT project. "Dead Air For Radios" is amazing.

  • @jventimusic2 Even the Wave and Colorblind are 2 more good tunes.

  • величайшее творение!!

  • The Kevin Moore´s Legacy to DT. Awesome lyrics, awesome notes, riffs, everything!!. Simply a , Mooregasm!!

  • @dtsharky M0:00gasm?

  • @scapeplan2 Hell yeah!! M0:00regasm!!

  • Now somebody has to explain something to me. I am usually a very objective person, and I understand that people have different tastes and that's ok. However, I can't understand why 18 people would FUCKING dislike a masterpiece like this. This piece of music is not just a "good", "great" or "excellent" song, this is just pure genius. When you listen to something, and you feel that this something is in exact alignment with how you feel, you feel understood and god, it transcends everything.Bliss.

  • fuckin good

  • Kevin Moore was the best keyboard player, in my opinion. His musical fingerprint had a certain something.

  • It's fucking ridiculous that some people are arguing about the best song instead of the best album.

  • It's too bad Kevin Moore left the band because this song should be played at every concert

  • Metropolis pt. 1, A Change of Seasons, The Glass Prison, Dark Eternal Night, Surrounded, Nightmare to Remember, Breaking All Illusions, Another Day, Forsaken, Bridges in the Sky. - these are the ones im diggin the hardest right now id say.

  • An Awesome song from an awesome Band!

    I love it!!

  • Riff at 1:05 gives me the chills

  • Reading the actual lyrics is an act of disenchantment.

  • "But I love you..."

  • This song has a kind of an Avenged Sevenfold vibe to it

  • @ColtinNotChicken if any, A7X has kind of a Space-Dye Vest vibe to them, since they were founded in 1999 and this song was published in 1994

  • MASTERPIECE! EVERY... i mean EVERY FUCKIN' thing in this song.. EVERYTHING is fantastic.. from each fuckin' note to each fuckin' letter in lyrics... damn... this is GENIOUS! and so true..

  • @lamplighter1984 Definitely agree dude, certainly the best. I find it amazing that they had perfectly captured the feel of the longer-instrumental-ish passages along with great lyrics writing and composing abilities. They have gone to longer old-school sections with Scarred and have kept it short, simple like Silent Man, Caught in a web, etc etc. Superb stuff.

  • @OhSoInsane you're absolutely right!!! that old DT was epic! sorry for my english =)

  • @lamplighter1984 A masterpiece indeed

  • Why does the guy at 2:00 sound like Giaus Baltar from Battlestar Galactica?

  • and i'll smile and i'll learn to pretend....

  • 18 people are deaf......or they're just fucking insane

  • I feel sorry for the pathetic souls who actually disliked this song.

  • This album and weirdly enough, Falling into Infinity are IMO their greatest stuff.

  • @CapnMoffitt Peruvian Skies is their best song

  • @ColtinNotChicken kick ass solo...

  • @ColtinNotChicken Peruvian Skies has a kick ass solo...

  • Every time i make myself a Dream Theater mix cd or playlist for the road or something i always, always, ALWAYS put this song as the last song. it's an epic ending song for all epic cds everywhere. haha,

  • AWAKE = Dream Theater´s best album ?

  • sad kevin moore left dream theater, he seemed to fit the band better than rudess. not that rudess is bad, I just think the kevin moore albums had more to it, instead of being some contest about making the longest song possible. With the new album, I think they somehow returned to their original style.

that being said I think metropolis pt. 2 and six degrees of inner turbulence are great albums

BTW are there some albums i should pass on?

  • @191bigo Are you crazy? Pass on a DT album? I think FII and Systematic Chaos are DT's two weakest albums, but still worth a listen.

  • I'm not a big DT fan, but this song is amazing. Are there any other DT songs similiar to this?

  • @AceVenturaQ911 humm try disapear maybe

  • @macacodorado Wow its really good. Thank you

  • @AceVenturaQ911 Wait for Sleep, Hollow Years (Budokan Live version), also A Change of Seasons and The Best of Times are a bit different than this but they're quite good. Also listen to Kevin Moore's "On the Page" as that song is kinda part2 of this song.

  • @AceVenturaQ911

Vacant. And I highly recommend Stream of Consciousness afterwards since it's basically a continuation.

  • This Goes Into A Change Of Seasons; A Change Of Seasons Goes Into New Millenium; Anna Lee Goes Into Regression; Awakening Goes Into The Glass Prison; Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence Goes Into As I Am; In The Name Of God Goes Into In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 1; In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 2 Goes Into A Nightmare To Remember

  • This is probably Dream Theaters best song ever.

  • @kazetehskylord Agree!

  • @kazetehskylord IMO Peruvian Skies is followed by Killing Hand and this one

  • @kazetehskylord

Its certainly in the top 3.

  • ...goose pimples...amazing...

  • so absolutely me

  • amo troppo questa canzone...

  • MOORE should be listed along side Mozart,Chopin ETC...

  • he doesn't love you he doesn't know even what a woman is

  • My fvaourite song of all time, seriously I could listen to this and just lose myself in Kevin Moore's amazing lyrics and piano playing it's beautiful

  • i like this more than a jordan ruddes awesome solo, in here i can feel and hear a piano player

  • whoever says rudess cannot be emotional clearly has never listened to Tear before the Rain

  • Despite their technical madness DT was always listenable back in the day. Musically specualitve without even knowing what the lyrics were or meant. Never gave much attention to the virtuosity they were well-known by since it was pleasant with or without it. But now.... it's like just weird & confusing. KM was the architect imho. There's only engineers now.

  • @BJrok Well said I agree

  • This song is so raw, so close to the nerve, that it resonates with so many people. Have there been lots of people who have not known any better than to throw their heart at a model in a catalog? Probably not, but the rage, the sensitivity after being emotionally hurt, yeah that goes around a lot. :(

  • @Emily3906 I agree with everything you said Emily. Kevin was perfect for the band. No matter how much skill Ruddess and Derek have brought to the band which I also appreciate, they seem to "dick-around" too much with DT's old songs which I hate. I love Rudess playing through SFAM but when DT plays I&W, and/or Awake and Jordan solos over stuff and changes stuff, by God, I just wanna kill him. Especially during the outro of "The Mirror" which happens to be my 2nd favourite of all time.

  • this music has no classification to me. its something unique, no words to describe it.

  • fuck ya kevin moore

  • i like space dye vest more than all the songs on awake

  • this is my favorite song too

  • And I'll smile and I'll learn to pretend.

And I'll never be open again.

And I'll have no more dreams to defend.

And I'll never be open again.

Will DT ever write lyrics like these again?

  • @progrockkeyboardist

    no. kevin moore is gone.

  • @bataviaisland: To be honest, I think JP's lyrics are not that bad. Unfortunately, he's not very consistent.

  • @progrockkeyboardist fuck you. define consistent asshole. Chuck Shuldiner of Death built his songs around his lyrics. Same here. Who in the hell are you? Modular lyrics nazi?

  • @progrockkeyboardist you don't make money. he does. Chuck Shuldiner of Death built his song around the lyrics. Same here. Who are you some Oxford PHD? Go screw. Dream Theater has given me some of the best morals and ethics ever.

  • @bataviaisland

    lol

he only left the band, you're telling something different :P

My advice: don't mix it up, hahaha.

  • @progrockkeyboardist Well this was Kevin Moore's lyrics and the band said they wouldn't have put it on the album if they knew he was leaving; so I guess no?

  • @progrockkeyboardist dream theater i dont know, but kevin can for sure

  • @progrockkeyboardist Unfortunately, probably not :/

  • @progrockkeyboardist Go check out Kevin Moore's solo stuff if you want to hear deep lyrics like that :)

  • why the hell is everyone putting top ten DT songs here? every dream theater song is amazing

  • 99.9% of world music has lyrics that refer to love. 99.9% of this music is commercial bullshit. This song belongs to the 0.01% of music that treats love with a serious way. Maybe this is the best love song that has ever been written.

  • Já mostrava o Chroma Key nesta música. O Kevin fez muitas dessas em sua nova banda.

Mais melodia e menos notas sem sentido, como faz o Rudess.

    Kevin Moore!!!

So get the fuck out and listen to some shit that will make you kick some niggas and hopefully you will get beaten up so. Bye

  • parts 0:01 to 7:31 are like me fucking a dead women.... PERFECT

  • @kjsoccerronaldo10 dude you dishonour all DT listeners. If you want to be a necrophile, keep it to yourself.

  • It's a very difficult song to me, it makes me think about the day my mother won't be around anymore. I hate this feeling.

it's so emotional and deep...easily one of the best DT songs there is. Shame they haven't played it live. (I know Jordan and James have, but not DT.)
